In this video I share my PCP velocity tuning philosophy on long range extreme accuracy and consistency. Also a detailed explanation of how to safely adjust hammer spring tension on the FLASHPUP. Big shout out and credits to Ted from Ted's Holdover. I have learned so much from his videos over the years and encourage you to check them out. Below is a link to the Ted's Holdover channel and the full video of the clip I showed. Happy tuning to all my Brother's out there!

Best shot curve tune (826 FPS peak) shown at time point 33:55 for those who don't want to wade through an hour of verbosity. 25cal version shooting JSB Kings @ 25.29 grains. Hammer-spring adjustment process starts immediately after he explains himself for being overly verbose at time point 36:10. Overall, a very useful video.

Here is another much appreciated video. You explain and show everything so well, that it makes it easy for those of us with no talent to tune our rifles. I have not ever had any luck getting Hatsan USA to return a call when I have a question or problem with anything, so I am lucky that you are around producing these videos. I can't believe you don't have at least 10 times more subscribers and views. Thank you so much.

Pressure,pressure, pressure is the absolute key! Chad you are the absolute man. As soon as I got your reply I ran out and took your advise. The flashpup responded exactly as you said it would. I have now found the spot where the valve is most balanced as you say. Approximately eleven shots in from a full charge about 179 bar to 153 ish is my sweet spot. 17 extremely consistent shots in .177 cal. Your advise and suggestions were by far the best I’ve received and the most helpful. This changes everything as far as confidence, consistency and accuracy. You’ve helped me nail down one more very important variable. Thank you so much. Great full to you for answering my questions and for making everyone’s flashpup experience more enjoyable. You are truly a brother in air!

This is no joke. I been looking forward to your next video since your last one. I checked every day. Thanks bro for all your efforts.Your videos have allowed me to break down my flashpup and tune it, clean it & maintaine it, & to keep a enthusiastic approach to my flash pup. I'm 46 and have a family with small children so my financial situation doesn't allow me to purchase a lot of things outside of family needs, but I was able to come up with the money to buy the flashpup and a hand pump and a hawk scope & a few other little whistling & bells like a scope level so I don't can't my shots. And a nice case my wife bought me for Christmas. I ordered some h&n sniper Magnums. The heaviest I could find for this gun,they did not do well with the gun in fact for the first few months I'd almost given up on airguns because the accuracy out of it was horrendous, I was not aware that a air rifle needed a specific pellet to shoot accurately, so after a lot of trial and error i found the pellet that worked. It's crazy but once you find that pellet that runs smooth through your barrel it's magical I couldn't believe the accuracy I was getting out of the flash pup. I don't have a chronograph I don't even have a rangefinder I use a tape measure to measure yardage and a lot of testing because most of my shootings done out of my yard I have a garden and I have an ample supply of crows, doves, pigeons, and squirrels so I have a fixed shooting position. yardage all measured out, it works I said before I have the same gun but in 177. caliber. On windy days I do regret getting the 177. but on those days when there is no wind my caliber really comes through, shoots a lot flatter than the 25. in my opinin. I live in Central Florida to be exact the Daytona Beach area. but I live next to a management area. And in the State of Florida you're allowed to use any caliber PCP air rifle to hunt small game & wild hogs, which are considered a non-game species which can be hunted year-round. Turkey's require a PCP air rifle in 20 caliber or above deer require 30 caliber and above no spinger's no CO2 if you hunt with an air rifle in the State of Florida has to be a PCP and has to be caliber specific for the game you're after. By the way I my call name on here used to be the garden sniper I changed it because of some flak I was getting from specific people so

@JumboJohnson. Thanks for the tips. I have the h&n pellets you mentioned. They group decent but cannot compete with the consistency of the jsb pellet at long ranges. I use them for 50yds and in occasionally. I regularly hunt the flashpup out to 80yds so usually go for the jsb as it shoots excellent at long range. I have shot the flashpup off bags. Track driver bag produces the tightest groups. I can shave almost a quarter of an inch off the group with bags but it's not practical to practice shooting this way as I have no bags when hunting in the field and cannot replicate the shot. I only shoot off bags to see what I can get a time or two with a new gun and then I shoot bipod because I take a lot of shots in the field off the pod. As far as taking the girls to an event that would be a blast! Great idea! Would have to travel quite a ways but it would be worth it! They would love it

@Jumbo Johnson you're very welcome friend. Overall the JSB pellets are the most consistent size and weight and minimal damage upon arrival for me. Air Arms pellets are nice this way as well. As far as my flashpup .25 it's favorite pellet overall is the JSB KING 25.39gr and the JSB KING HEAVY 33.95gr both group and shoot equally accurate for me. I cannot speak on the flashpup .22 or how it will do with any of the JSB pellets because I haven't shot the gun. I have even witnessed two guns of the same make and caliber shooting completely different with the same pellet because of small differences in barrel dimension. That vectis sure is an interesting, intriguing gun. Am very excited to hear how it shoots for you. I am always happy when the JSB pellet is the favorite of one of my guns but that's not always the case. Sometimes the pellet I doubted would group at all ends up grouping the best. It's all so gun and barrel dependent. The vectis is built of off the flash/flashpup platform so I would bet it will do well with the JSB but only testing will tell. Keep me posted on the vectis please as I am very eager to hear some performance info.

The most recent videos and the videos to follow in the future will be shorter, more direct, and geared towards air gunners with at least some experience. I'll try to get some squirrel hunting footage going here this weekend. I've been out several times but sometimes it's just easier not lugging around the cameras and all that. I owe it to the guys that watch the channel though so I'm going to try to get some good stuff on film for everybody👍

Yes, I followed Ted'sholdover when he actually started! And yes, he deserves much more respect from the airgun world/industry. At first, even the gun builders of very important brands didn't quite take him seriously. Oh, but they did listen in the end after seeing his progression and his incredible shooting!! All the information started to make sense! So much so that the entire industry started to actually listen to professional shooters. Things they didn't like, and things they loved about certain air guns. We must also of course thank Ed from EDGUN!!!! As being one of THE bravest inventors of quality made airguns ever! And it's Because of these two gentleman, and a few others, that we NOW have a ton of knowledge on bullpups, AND pcp airguns in general... Nice to hear about your 180° learning curve. It IS fantabulous to find the true facts on power, speed, and accuracy once you're deep into this sport/hobby, well I would even say, "way of life" lol Take care bro :-) Real air gunning... Love it! This was last nights project. Back to that revived Flashpup Wood .25 I just gotten Refurbished. After he was up and running it was time for a test run. I already watched this video so knew what to look for. It shoots fine. Smooth action.. The sound of it was a dead giv'a'way... and was shot counting and watching the guage. Compared to the Flash .25 it nearly made an audible CRACK!! when fired opposed to the dull "spoink" sound of the other. The guage would visibly drop between shots... So I took him back down, found the set screw and hammer spring adjuster... "Have a longer allen wrench" and did the from there to zero incriment count. Somebody had him 5 cranks out from zero. I havnt even dont the crono math... I backed mine out as a starter from zero 3& 3/4 turns. I knew the typical setting would be between 3 to 4 turns out from zero. Aww man sounds alot better... I shot 2 mags & was then holding 2000 PSI.

Its true theres no grid or magic quick fix patented setting. After todays ventures I realised I had tuned it too moderately. After 3 magazines the Pressure Guage was still in the low green at 4 &1/4 turns out on the hammer spring. I took it back out to 5 turns out from zero. I figure a couple dozen high velocity or so before I drop out of the green zone. Im gonna hunt with this guy so Ill give that a whorl... and Oh yes.. @@rickrazz7136 the bullboss is a great little rifle. I have one in. 22 and is my thirty to fifty yards hunter for pesting around the farm. Also if you are wanting to plink around or sharpen your shooting skills it is great for that as well. They are available in .177, 22 and .25. Thanks for the quick response. And yes 10m at 500fps is just pure physics. And all can be calculate even out to 100m if you know the air resistance per meter subjected on the aerodynamics on the pellet And there is sorting of the pellet by size and weight. It just felt as if you should have made two videos as i spent 36min with information but that not what i searched for. I bought a Vectis 25cal and the Flash share the same platform for tuning and a regulator install. Now the video on the regulator tuning was very informative. I am sure you get that your time is sometimes better spent. I thank you for your hard work in putting out an informative video. What makes it hard for me is the lack of editing in general on utube,miss labling or just trying to cover to much material at one time. Like your video which 59mins and should have been 5- 10mins for the subject matter. I know it is difficult to try to cover a how to video for 3rd graders to engineers( like myself) with covering safety as well in that time. I try not to open dyi videos over 20mins. Just for this reason. You spent more time talking about something other that the listed subject. Just some feed back to ponder. I hope it doesn't detour your continued informative videos but hepls you to enhance.

Yeah I appreciate the constructive criticism for sure. It has been a learning curve for me to be honest. Based on emails I was getting from a couple guys before I started the channel I thought mostly young guys maybe even teens would use the information so I kind of tailored a lot of it towards that age group only to find that very few young guys are in the comments. Seems to mostly be adult air gunners with experience and I was failing to realize that. I'm moving forward with a new approach to things more along the lines of just banging the info out and helping a guy that needs more help/detail in the comments or through email or something. Now that I realize the audience and also come to terms with the fact I would never want to watch an hour long video about some of these topics LOL, I think guys will enjoy the content more moving forward. Also.... based on the wording of your first comment I assumed you were a young guy new to air gunning and maybe not very fluent in English. I apologize and again thank you for the feedback. Cheers friend

I'm reposting my comment, said you couldn't see it all. Could be that I was using another account so I switched to this one. I originally posted as PilotMountainAirgunner, something went wrong, I can only see that comment when I am logged into that account as well, hmmmm. Anyway... Glad to see you back. Yeah, the .25 cal FlashPup can definitely shoot hot. Told you I was going to try slugs, and I have, got the 44 gr to shoot up to 80 fpe. Tried four slugs and it has the power to push them, but accuracy suffers due to a humongous spread. So yeah, great for close up, but not at a distance. Still learning and playing with mine. I ran a video shooting the 34.7 gr NSA slugs hooting 74.4 fpe, I have the chrony numbers for the other four slugs. Most don't believe it, but I ran the numbers in different lighting etc. This thing is hot as fire, up to 1200 fps with the 25.39 gr jsb. I just wanted to see what it could do, new to tuning so of course I wanna see what it could do, lol. I simply cleaned, deburred, buffed, used a tiny touch of silicone for a super thin lube, cranked the hammer screw out 6 turns and left the end cap one turn out from where it was, and I am amazed at the power this thing has, never would have dreamed it. I'll turn it back down, but amazed at it's power. I did find the 39 grainer kept a decent shot spread, slow, but pretty good.

Just so you know you can get a great deal through Hatsan USA ,look in the refurb section I bought both of my hatsans through refurb , also bought a spark compressor all three were in their original packaging in the original Plastics, it didn't look like they had even been out of the box, I picked up a flashpup synthetic 25 for $249 killa deal if you ask me on a great gun, most every time you go on the refurb section it says out of stock, all you do is put your email address in and they notify you as soon as one comes in ,but once you see the email though jump on it because they sell fast, I missed out on the first one when I was filling out the form someone already had bought it , I would definitely buy a refurb gun again on hatsan usa , ive gotten fantastic deals

I feel you. Originally as you will see in the about section I started the channel for a very small group of young guys that couldn't change their own oil if you asked them to( no offense guys). On top of having absolutely no mechanical skill or confidence these particular young guys all had the flashpup as their first air gun ever. One of them was 16 years old and it was because of this I was incredibly scared of someone getting hurt or ruining their gun. To be honest with you I never expected anyone to really watch the videos besides them LOL. I'm with you I would never want to sit painfully through any of those long-ass videos and I realize now that this audience I have gained mostly consist of adult air gunners with at least some experience. From this point on I will be taking a different approach and just shooting the information out there so the average video shouldn't really exceed 20 minutes. I'll be able to actually make a lot of videos that I want to because the editing will be short and sweet so I don't know why I didn't change things sooner. I thank you for the comments on the background. To be quite honest with you I never set it up for KZbin or to be a background to make a video it's just my man cave and my little air gun shop where I hang out and do my thing LOL the walls were so drab so I went with the camouflage then everything was too plain so I started hanging shit everywhere and then it just kind of evolved into what it is now. But again man thanks for the compliments and you hit the nail on the head with your criticism. Look to see the videos to be short and to-the-point moving forwards. Cheers

@@brothersinair2064 Wow! You are replying to comments! Great, really good of you. You know, you never really gave the 1-2-3 of how the gun operates. Finally you do adjust the power--first higher, and then a bit lower. How many turns (clockwise, right?) can the adjustment go, lowering pressure? If not enough, I have to return this powerhouse Flash Pup. It is too powerful and NOISY BIGTIME to use hereabouts. If powered-down (even 600-700 fps in .177 would be fine!), all should be fine. *Is it that the gun is fired by a hammer hitting an air-release plunger? How low can the gun go in FPS (espec. interested in .177)? Thanks.

@@ranhat2 as I stated all the questions you have can be found with a Google search on how does a pcp airgun work. I will do my best to make it a little easier on you and give you the short answer. They are all basically the same just accomplished slightly different ways from gun to gun. There is an air tank to hold the high pressure air. At the end of this tank there is a bash style valve holding the air from escaping out of the tank. Just like it sounds the pin of the valve must be bashed (struck) buy something in order to open the valve and release a given amount of air. This is accomplished in a PCP airgun buy something commonly referred to as a hammer. It is usually made of metal and it is driven buy a spring known as a hammer spring. The hammer is pulled back buy a bolt style action and then locked in place by the trigger mechanism so that when you pull the trigger the hammer is released and it moves forward to strike the valve releasing air to drive a projectile out the barrel. I did my best to completely step-by-step describe how to make a power adjustment on the gun. There's no reason to say how many turns or any of that jazz if you think the gun is shooting too fast and loud turn the adjustment screw clockwise to relieve some pressure from the spring. This is completely described in the video. So if we lessen preload tension on the hammer spring the hammer is going to strike the valve with less force and the result of that will be less are being released by the valve then the previous setting. If you don't have a chronograph then there's no way for you to know anything in relation to the feet per second of your projectile. if you do great it's a very useful tool in knowing the speed your gun is shooting a given projectile and also will show you what is happening in relation to your hammer spring adjustments. If I showed you how to increase the tension and I showed you how to decrease the tension and I also explained the end result of those adjustments I don't know what else you're looking for. if the gun is shooting too loud and the pellet is going too fast relieve the tension on the hammer spring and see if that quiets it down for you. Clockwise relieves tension and counterclockwise increases the preload tension. All you can do is turn the adjustment screw in as far clockwise as it will go and then that's it what you're left with is going to be as quiet as the gun will be and the pellets are going to be moving as slow as they possibly can. If that doesn't suit you you would have to look for a lighter hammer spring so that you could strike the valve with even less energy. Outside of this reply in combination to the video I don't know of any other way to help you along in this process.

Great video. This was so helpful. Until recently, I felt the same as you used to feel, finding the idea of dropping power to be a tough pill to swallow. But if you think about it, a lot of countries limit the legal ft. lbs. to 12, and they shoot long distance accurately with 12 ft. lbs. and they take small game easily with 12 ft. lbs. so our detuned guns are still power houses. Thanks for all your great videos.

You're definitely in the right direction brother. It looks like on the after tune string that you started with a 180 bar fill? By the looks of the shot string you are beginning shooting at the peak of the power curve were the most consistent shots would be. That would mean that there are several shots that would have came before those within your desired es of your 828fps max. Try reducing the preload a quarter turn at a time and shooting over the crony from a 200bar fill. You are very close to having a shot string like this example... 765 200bar 771 783 791 800 170bar 801 809 814 817 824 827 825 827 826 155bar 825 827 823 821 823 815 809 801 145bar So as you can see from this completely hypothetical example there are 18shots from 170bar-145bar with an ES of 27fps. 12 of those 18 shots, say from 165bar-150bar, could land subMOA at 100yds based on the 10fps es of said shots. Once you're set where you want to be and know where the most consistent velocities are through the peak of your power curve you would then zero your gun while shooting those consistent shots. So from where you are at now the more you minimize preload tension on the hammer spring the longer and flatter that curve will be having more shots with less es but at the cost of max velocity at the peak dropping proportionate to the softer hammer strike. Tuning cost time and pellets($) but for me it is a labor of love and the end result super gratifying when you have tailored your gun to suit your needs and brought about much improvement. Hope that helps you out bro. I'm super happy when somebody actually finds the videos useful and it allows them to further their airgun game. Happy shooting brother!

It only takes me about 6-7mins to pull it out and get the reservoir back together and on the gun. The regulator has to come all the way out in order to adjust the bar setting so I've done it many times over the course of tuning with the reg. I wanted to clean the spring washers ect.... and also going to make a video showing how to install the regulator.

Brothers in Air, I'd like your thoughts on performing hammer spring adjustments in the "sweet spot" or the power curve of the air cylinder. On mine (.22 cal) its around the 150Bar range. My thinking is that the sweet spot gives you the most consistency shot to shot. Therefor the most precise readings when adjusting/measuring your velocity changes.
@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 5 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct about the most consistent shots being in the power curve. So if I say my flashpup is shooting a JSb King at 825fps I am referring to the peak velocities that are consistent within the power curve. I would make hammer spring adjustment while in that curve to get close to my desired velocity, then filll the gun and shoot a whole string to see where I'm at. It's the only way to truly know how effective your adjustment is or what you've accomplished. you change the point of consistent balance when you make adjustments to the hammer spring. So with a fairly hard hammer strike your power curve might be between 180bar - 155bar. Whereas with a much softer hammerstrike your power curve might be between 160bar - 135bar.

Won't be exact as there is some variance between guns but it will get you real close.

If you are screwing the allen key counter clockwise are you not putting less tension on the hammer spring. When you screw it clockwise it moves forward to compress the spring more.
@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 3 жыл бұрын
that would be the case if the adjustment screw was at the rear of the hammer spring like many guns but it sits inside the hammer in front of the hammer spring. So if you turn it clockwise you are driving it deeper into the hammer and lessening preload tension but counterclockwise brings it out which compresses the spring towards the end cap adding more tension.

@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds super fun! Here's what I would do.... Reduce the size like 30% from a full sized golf ball and practice at 50yds or, use the full sized golf ball but put it out at 60yds and practice that way. Then come tournament time you'll have more control, stability, and be more than ready for 50yrd. Will the shooting be offhand or from the bench? So many things can influence the shot but the biggest in mho is your breathing. If you can master that and shoot consistently each time you'll knock heads at the tournament. Although a PCP is more forgiving than say a break barrel it still does have recoil so if you practice a consistent hold on the gun it will become second nature and you'll feel immediately if your hold is off. As to the pressures you should use that depends on a few things. If you have a chronograph you can easily shoot from 200 on down and record the data so you can see where your power curve is at. You would want to use the most consistent velocities at the peak of your curve for the tournament. If you don't have a chrony just put out a target at 50 and shoot benchrested from 200 on down using the same point of aim for all your shots. You will notice they start low at the beginning of the string and rise as you are going uphill on the beginning of the power curve. When you reach the peak of the power curve and are shooting through your most consistent shots you will notice the point of impact staying the same. these are the shots you want to use at the tournament as they are when the valve is at its most balanced point and you are producing your most consistent velocities from shot to shot. As you keep shooting you will notice the shots begin to drop again as you enter and go down the down slope of the power curve. Keep an eye on the manometer as you shoot to see at what pressures the peak of your power curve falls into. As an example you might get 15 shots with an extreme spread of 20 FPS between 160bar-145bar. These would be the shots you would want to use as they have the most consistent velocities through the course of shooting your fill. Hope that helps brother. Good luck at the tournament. Kick ass and take names!

When I screw it, could it become so power full that it will destroy the bolting system?
@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 3 жыл бұрын
No you won't destroy anything within the action. You can turn the hammer spring adjustment screw counter clockwise to increase the preload and achieve a harder hammer strike. When adjusting counter clockwise you will reach a point where the hammer spring is at max bind and you cannot pull the bolt enough to the rear to get the trigger sears to engage. If you reach that place just turn the adjustment screw in clockwise and relieve preload tension until you're able to fully cock the action. Always remember to tighten back down the little set screw in the side of the hammer after each adjustment. Good luck bro. Have fun

I would turn it up some but not max it out. Better to run things under absolute max power than push all the components to the limit. It will limit the wear and tear on the rifles components by keeping things slightly below max. Hope that helps and you can get some good penetration going on that pine!

If there are any left hand shooters out there who are annoyed by the unaccomidating cheek comb, heres a fix: Take it off, and put a 4 in. long, 1 in. tall riser rail, on the combo rail under the cheek comb, (or monstum makes an adjustable height one that will give more adjustability), and then get a pack of Magpul XTM rail cover/hand guards, and clip one in the middle, and one on each end (they will only fit halfway on the ends of the rail but the clip on design makes the fit on securely, extending halfway over the ends of the rail). The rail cover will extend over the magazine on the Flashpup with a perfect fit, so the mag is held solidly with no wobbling when pushed in, and protected by the rugged construction of the Magpul rail cover panel. Now I have a comfortable cheek weld, just level with my rail, and it can be comfortably shot by left or right handers.

i should have mentioned that if you are using the stock optics rail you will want a half inch riser, 1 inch will be too high for irons if you mount them on the stock combo rail, i have a mil spec picatinny rail adapter as not all picatinnty accesories will fit the groove depth and spacing of the combo weaver rail, which adds a half inch of hight to my optics rail

I know many people that prefer to use oil so it's really just a matter of personal preference. of the manufacturer's I've dealt with Hatsan velocity claims in my experience are the closest to being true. They probably used a Hatsan Vortex 19gr pellet which is what Hatsan uses for their velocity testing on the .25's so you should see around 820-830 ish velocities with a 25gr pellet with the factory tune.

How many useful shots and what range of speeds you get as the rifle comes from factory, at 200 psi?
@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 4 жыл бұрын
As far as useful shots that depends on the Range you are shooting at. If you were shooting at 10yds you could probably pull off 40shots. stretch it out to 50yds you would be looking at more like 20- 25 shots with an es of like 20-25 fps. Factory tune will have a 25.39gr jsb moving anywhere from 810fps - 835fps but those are just rough estimations based on mine and others reports.
@brothersinair2064

As to your earlier question about the speeds being good enough for hunting.... it all depends on what you are hunting for. Anything small game is definitely toast as you're looking at about 27ftlbs of energy @ 100yds when leaving the muzzle at 700 FPS with a 34gr slug

Do airgun pellet designers use ballistic coefficient data to design their bullets? The shapes seem so different form the philosophy of that of the powder people. It is known from the pistol Olympic gang that the .22 short subsonic rounds are more accurate than .22 long rifle which can go in and out of the sonic range which affects accuracy.

I have a question by increasing your velocity do you still get the problem of it firing when you let the cocking lever go??? I am to get my Pup this Saturday & if this is an issue with it auto firing I want to correct this problem. @brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 5 жыл бұрын
An increase in hammer spring tension should not affect things of that nature if the components are functioning properly. If you are speaking on what I have seen reported that with the bolt in the rear locked position when flipping it up will fly forward and the hammer will release and an accidental fire will occur. Of the two I own and the few others I've had my hands on I could not replicate that situation. There is a return spring around the pellet probe to stop it from traveling all the way to the end of the channel in the hammer but I would imagine if the spring is fatigued or faulty that could possibly occur. A stiffer spring would probably remedy the problem. Also if the trigger is set too light the jolt and jar from the bolt handle flipping up and flying forward may be enough impact/vibration (it's going to smack into the trigger sear) to cause the hammer to not grab and keep flying forward. The only other way I know of this happening is... if you cock the gun like 1/2 - 3/4 of the way and the bolt handle slips out of your fingers before the hammer is locked in place by the sear the hammer will fly forward with the probe and strike the valve. Even my lever action is this way. If the lever is not fully pulled back to lock the hammer in place with the trigger sear and it slips out of your fingers... same thing the hammer goes forward and strikes the valve. There's really no way around this as it is part of the design of these types of PCP's. I've never had this happen to me over years of shooting though. I'll use my compound bow as an example.... If I knock an arrow and am 1/2 - 3/4 through the pull and the string slips from my fingers there goes that arrow in whatever direction I was pointing the bow when the accidental slip occurred. The only way I know of to avoid the problem is to not let it slip from your grasp while charging the gun. Sorry so long-winded I figured I'd cover all the bases because I didn't know exactly what scenario you were talking about. The .25cal Flashpup shoots heavier pellets very well and overall it's not very picky. You should do awesome with those out to 60 yards but I would look for something with slightly better ballistics if you're trying to stretch it out farther. Speaking from experience, I've done a lot of hunting with both of those and the polymags do some real damage. The grizzlies seem to be a little too hard to get much of a mushrooming effect as they will just pass through bone and all. If the grizzlies were just a touch longer and made of a softer lead with a cupped base they would probably be my go-to. I've had really great success using the Hunter extreme 28.24gr out to 70 yards and the expansion on the pellets is almost bar none. I've been using the new jsb Hades in .22cal and they take the cake as far as range capabilities with those types of pellets. The expansion of the pellet and the extremely damaging wound channel they produce is remarkable. We should start to see the new 25cal Hades hit the shelves real soon and I'm excited! Although pricey I do find the jsb pellets to be the best overall as far as consistency in gr weight and level of handling/shipping damage. Now if I could just get them cheaper lol. On another note I sure would love to go on an iguana hunt! Best wishes on all your airgun adventures brother.

To make the FlashPup velocity adjustable without removing from stock: (I left out some pertinent details of this mod in my original comment, so this is the complete step by step) 1. Take the Flashpup out of the stock 2. Unscrew the top phillips head screw in the back of the but pad. 3. Pull back on the top of the butt pad until the top peg pops loose from the hole it sits in. (might have to give it a little tug, but it has a reasonable amount of give as its plastic) 4. swivel it down using the bottom screw as its axis 5. Measuring carefully, mark a line on the side of the stock from the butt pad screw hole to the hammer spring port, (even with it) using a dry erase marker or piece of tape. 6. Using a 6mm drill bit (or something close to it, big enough to fit a 4mm hex key, small enough to not weaken or crack your stock, and to fit in the hole already there in the metal [edit: its actually hard plastic not metal] butt plate), drill a straight hole right in the top screw hole, following your line so the hole is a straight, exact line to the hammer spring port 7. Get a round wood file, and deepen, and widen, the rearmost notch, (where your bolt handle locks down in the rear position) down and forward about 3mm, to expose the set screw without having to remove the stock (its too close to the edge to drill, you will crack the wood) 8. Replace the gun in the stock, check that everything lines up as it should. Now you only need hex keys to adjust, but you will need to have a T handle one, thats long enough to reach from the hole in the butt to the hammer spring adjustment. The butt pad will stay in place without the top screw, you will have to give it a little WHACK with the palm of your hand, and the peg will snap right into place in the metal butt plate hole, and hold there firmly, until you want to open it up. Dont forget to lock the set screw back down after you adjust, I imagine it would be easy to forget with this in-the-stock adjusting, and would not be good for the gun, im pretty sure.

Update: I found that by backing the set screw out just very slightly, it will allow the hammer spring to be adjusted without having to loosen and tighten the set screw, and it stays put at how ever many turns I set it out, even after 100+ shots. I took the wood screw that was in the top hole on the butt pad, and screwed it in about an inch down fro where it was, and now I can just stiuck my T hex key thru the top hole in the butt pad, and adjust my hammer spring without having to move the butt pad at all. Very happy about this mod.

@brothersinair2064
@brothersinair2064 4 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming you are talking about velocity tuning to find the best accuracy of a certain slug. I usually test a bunch of different grain weights and sizes and then take the best one and fine-tune the accuracy. If it can be dialed in to tack driving status with a particular velocity or tune then I will find that place through testing. I would say the same for slugs even more so than pellets. Every gun I have that I am shooting slugs with I had to do some velocity tuning just like the pellets. Tuning to find the right speed for that particular projectile. It's all about that stabilisation spin on the slug. This is dictated by the twist rate of the barrel and the speed at which the projectile is being shot. The faster you push a projectile the stronger the rotational spin on the projectile and vice versa for slowing it down. I have been able to tune in some great accuracy with projectiles that guy's across-the-board swore were no good in whatever gun. Pellets need less rotational spin to stabilize in flight than a slug so I would say generally in choked pellet barrels slugs are very velocity dependent as far as stable flight and great accuracy.

Here is something out of left field for you. I am a pilot and I have dabbled in building aircraft over the years. There is a limit to how fast you are allowed by physics to spin a prop. We had a limit of a 880 feet per second on the tip speed. Much beyond that and the propeller would go super sonic and cavitate becoming inefficient. The air gets very unpredictable at that kind of speed as Chuck Yeager who we lost a couple of months ago at the age of 97, experienced. So having 880 FPS drilled into my head years ago certainly seems to have merit.
