#The reality of using a hand pump for a PCP, is that not only will you save money and have portability but you will definitely get strong and fit using it.
Beware if you are 70Kgs/154lb or less, you probably can not use a hand pump because you will not be able to provide the 'UUUMMMPH" required to operate it when the pressure approaches 200Bar (at least for this model pump from Hatsan.).
The alternatives are using a compressor directly, an air bottle of some sort, eg carbon fibre or aluminium scuba cylinder or steel scuba tank with appropriate regulators and hoses plus connectors.
Read all warnings and instructions before using any high pressure air equipment. never try to disconnect the HP hose until the pump ad line is fully bled and back at atmospheric pressure, otherwise if you did happen to disconnect the HP fitting from your PCP then good luck because it can cause a serious injury.
Never operate your pump on unstable ground or during times of high humidity (even if you have got fresh desiccant inside the pump).
The technique I show here is just mine there are no doubt countless other techniques. plus if one is like 80kg and above then the straight arm technique (found on many pre existing videos on KZbin) is going to be just fine.

Hello and thanks for the good educational video. Do you recommend a pump or a composite capsule for areas with humidity and rain? thanks

Hi, if the pump has a drying agent in it then it should be ok for high humidity regions but many hand pumps probably do not have the capacity for desiccant. If you can fill up into a carbon bottle or any bottle for that matter at a shop where they have a pump which has a proper compressor that has a water trap installed, this might be better both for long term storage in the tank and also of course for only using bone dry air inside your PCP. Hope that helps. Many thanks for watching and commenting!

It's almost like the pumps need to be able to switch directions and compress air on the pull stroke towards the end. Most people can improve their deadlifting strength to a much greater degree than their weight.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools Жыл бұрын
Yes i don't know why this isn't the case for these pumps, I mean quality bicycle pumps for years have been able to function both on the push and pull stroke for rapid inflation of tires. The other killer with these pumps are the huge weight of them, they aren't light but maybe this has something to do with the large pressures developed within them?
@jaywestfall4670
@jaywestfall4670 5 ай бұрын
The reason is because of the force it takes to compress air to that high of a pressure. See how much force/effort it took using his body weight? Imagine putting that much force by trying to pull. If they start making pumps that compress air on pull stroke, I'm investing in stocks with the hernia drs lol then the head injury drs from all the people getting hit in the face trying to pull that much force n hillbilly engineering ways too lmao

G'day BCT, please forgive my ignorance; what is PCP ? Positive Compression or some such ? Cheers Duke.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 3 жыл бұрын
No need to apologize for anything here Duke. PCP stands for Pre- Charged Pneumatic, simply meaning a gas cylinder (which will contain dry air in all cases) sits semi permanently (but can be removed from the weapon in more expensive models/designs) attached to a weapon. Via a High pressure pump, in this case a hand operated one -seen here (just like a much bigger version of what some mountain bikers use to adjust their air shocks) is used to compress air at high pressure (up to 3000psi) into it for the weapons' operation. The funny thing is Ii grew up only knowing that PCP stood for some crazy hallucinogenic drug (phenylcyclohexyl piperidine) and the only air rifles were of the spring/piston kind LOL. These hand pumps are tough to use but there are correct and incorrect ways to use them. The incorrect ways will get you injured, ie by it toppling over, busted muscles, sore back etc LOL. The correct ways of use are also dependent upon body posture, and what level of fitness one possesses. For me, they appear to less popular than people simply using compressed air tanks (such as a regular scuba cylinder-or similar) to fill their PCP weapon. personally my scuba tank is for diving and that's it LOL. These hand pumps though are a good source of regular exercise if one intends to regularly shoot and also save some money over the purchase of a dedicated compressor and or separate air tank. However in this world of PCP air weapons/guns or whatever one wants to call it, the hand pump is totally portable and that has huge benefits if hunting remotely is a prerequisite and long stays in the field, where one would need a compressor, vehicle and or other much larger cylinders. larger cylinders can be heavy and if one decides they want a lighter one, well they are also made from carbon fibre however, they come at a much greater price point. (what I sometimes refer to as a "dangerous hobby" ie dangerous for the wallet LOL and possibly family relations LOL!

Thanks for the comprehensive response mate, possibly the most interesting I've ever received many thanks;, that's why I don't watch much telly these days, except for the bush version, lol. If I understand you correctly these pumps will "charge" the modern "slug guns" in the field and potentially mountain bike shocks too. 3000 psi is impressive in anyone's terms. You'll have to forgive me once again, I've only got a 30 year old old Daisy .177, slug/BB for now, (and an old antique Anschutz single shot long .22), but moving house in the coming months and plan to have access to a decent gun club and the benefits that come with it. Hope they're not turkeys lol. My mountain bike is a Giant Talon 3 so not being competition type shocks, yet anyway, would be moot at this point, but good to know for the future. I'm a bit taller and heavier than your good self but certainly looks to be great exercise for all !!!. If we ever did happen to cross paths, there'd be no shortage of common interests to talk about, anyway thanks again mate. Cheers Duke

Yeah That's what I was thinking about getting a compressor but at present I just use a shop's compressor. Yeah someone could come up with a pump with better mechanical advantage for sure. I saw videos where people converted their pumps to a electric motor driven system but ok if you are that way mechanically inclined or have the parts laying around the house because by the time you do this, it probably costs as much as a commercial compressor.

@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 11 ай бұрын
I believe it's a 2 stage pump. or at least on the up stroke and down stroke. But if left for too long, say 10-15 min in the downward cycle, it can be become extremely difficult to pull it up again and hence complete the cycles.

Check your nylon washers. Remember it's very high pressure so any failure of the washers will cause an air leak, that would be my first point of all, all joints need to be tight. See how that goes if it doesn't work, text me back here and i'll think about something else.
