I think this song makes more sense with Gakupo. Gakupo is a prestigious samurai and wouldn't easily be defeated in a normal sword fight, so to kill him, one would have to steal his heart and (quite literally) break it, and Miku is a naïve young girl turned cold when forced to kill him, knowing that if she failed, she would die and by other means Gakupo would be killed. But Kaito... he's just Kaito. In the song he seems like a pampered prince who couldn't eat a raw potato without getting sick, so if you pass the guards, you could easily stick a knife in his heart and he's dead. To sum up how this would go, Miku gets the letter saying she has to kill Gakupo by midnight tomorrow, so she goes to a ball of sorts (rather just scheduling a night to dance), carrying a pocket watch with the note inside and a dagger under her skirt. They dance, and she starts to develop feelings for Gakupo. Half an hour before midnight, she excuses herself, dropping the note in hopes that he would understand. He picks up the note and reads it, dismayed. She returns, dressed in black, wearing a masquerade mask to conceal her face. Recognizing her, he took off her mask. Being the chivalrous samurai he was, he lets her kill him, if it's to save her life. She pins him to the floor, and holds the dagger over his forehead. Her arm starts to tremble, and she drops the dagger beside his head, and sobs on his chest, knowing that they would both be killed. He consoles her, promising that everything would be okay and no one would die. Sorry for the tangent, but if I were to express this anywhere, it'd be here.

Pickled Thyme I love this version of the story, it feels so much better and more real the original. I mean I love Kaito, but he just wasn’t fit for that role he’s just an icecream loving pretty boy!!
