I worked on Brixham beam trawlers that could have 16 spring loaded dredges each side.

What a dangerous way to catch scallops check out the dredges used in Vic and Tasmania Australia the dredge runs on skids 4 inches above the bottom so does less damage than all this chain dragging along the bottom and is dropped onto a waste high sorting table or tumble cleaner

By Vic, you mean Victoria? Also, does this catch as much scallops as we do? What you saw there was an average haul back. A lot of scallops up here in the N.E. USA/Canada are either fishing on sand where the risk of damage is more to the _BOATS_ if they get caught on an artificial hangup (i.e. a wreck) or fishing on hard bottom (i.e. in the rocks). We don't have to worry about reefs and have special nets for turtles.

Yea from what I can see, you guys are fishing a different style of scallop, smaller loads, smaller quotas, more diverse life on you sea floors.

I think dredging of any kind is absolutely destructive.

You dont know what you're taking about. Scallop beds are on sandy bottom. When the scallops are on, like in this video, that is all you catch.

Like farming a field. How many trips have you made scalloping?

The size of these scallops that are being caught to be sorted through with 80% being thrown back to be caught over and over again are the reason that two years later there are no scallops left.

99.9% of the scallops caught from the tow were a 12.5 count when stellwagon popped off. Shoveled the tow and cut everything
