I honestly love Amanda Lovelace's poems! (I like simpler poetry that's easy to understand since I don't consider myself to be a poetry enthusiast, and a lot of her poems resonate with me.) Also, I love that they've now added illustrations that enhance the vibe. ☺️

‘I was reading this when I was feeling really emo’ We need to normalize phases and moments as adults. we are always expected to be so linear and settled into ourselves, but who said that has to mean there isn’t fluctuation? I said a similar sentence to my friend about picking an emotional book, and he asked why I was having an adult emo phase. Lol Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are also some of my favorite books. The writing is genuinely clever. You feel like a whimsical child when reading because of the writing style. 🖤

Highly recommend ‘how decent folk behave’ by Maxine Beneba Clarke. There’s a poem in that collection called the monsters are out which is all about violence against women in Australia. I read it back in January and still think about that poem almost daily!

Phenomenal woman by Maya Angelou is one of my absolute favorite poems, you probably already read it, but if not you really should, I am sure you would love it!!💖 🐇 I always come back to it to feel empowered as a woman - it's a very feminist poem, that challenges the restrictive sexist stereotypes of what it means to be a beatuful woman. Instead she insists that real beauty comes from confidence and self-acceptence, and being a woman does not depend on how you look to other people ☺️🐰 It also just flows incredibly and is very satifying to read.

I would also recommend Barbie Chang by Victoria Chang I thought it was even better than Obit in my opinion and also Natalie Diaz is amazing if you are looking for more recommendations haha I loved when my brother was an Aztec by her.

Chloe, without a doubt, you should read the collection of poems “20 love songs and a desperate song” by Pablo Neruda, in fact Taylor in the All To Well video at the beginning put a phrase by this author “love is so short and forgiveness is so long ”🥺
