The weakest link in the chain of operations necessary to process firewood is when you are using the chainsaw because that is such a low-powered machine compared to the log processing trailer and your four-wheel drive vehicle. Anytime you are on that chainsaw you are wasting time so ideally you should invent a machine that can chop your logs to length much faster than a chainsaw. A portable lumber mill Maybe?

If you're getting a new motor/pump for this machine, maybe you could use the existing motor/pump to operate a little conveyor belt up that ramp? :)

@briandolbec37
@briandolbec37 Жыл бұрын
It is possible to power a small sort of escalator by the main hydraulic ram doing the splitting. A small spring loaded flap that pops up to grab the wood, folds flat when newly split wood passes over it, when the ram retracts pull the flap up via cable pushing the wood up, comes back down during the next split... Anyway, that is the basic idea...

Everyone seems to be suggesting a conveyor belt. I would design something like the track system of a tank where there is a central sprocket system and then have the slats attached to a chain. You can then attach angle iron "catch" like every 16" to allow for cut pieces to collect then move up the conveyor.
@NavinBetamax
@NavinBetamax Жыл бұрын
Use a treadmill belt system ( convoyer belt system) . You will not be restricted by gravity jamming the chopped wood and also could go higher too.

I was thinking about how creative you are and thought a conveyer that moved up every time the ram moved would be a problem solver and no added motor just a drop and drag link between the ram and the belt mechanism.
@eduarddvorecky3731
@eduarddvorecky3731 Жыл бұрын
Honestly at this point i would just add small motor, one wheel, conect them with bike chain, and weld small tabs/ paddles on the chain every so often to just pull wood up the shoot. If motor is too much, make one way paws, put them on bar and connect it to spliting piston so each time it retracts, it pulls the chain. It can even be similar to pullcord like on small engines to start them.
@famousamoso7
@famousamoso7 Жыл бұрын
I had the same exact thoughts to the conveyor into the piston as it would eliminate an additional motor/power requirement of this.

Make a *small* "dirt berm" [approx 1ft], for the splitter to sit on, and lower the angle of the chute. Get your dirt for the berm from the location where the crates will sit. Should still be easy to back the splitter up onto the berm and to swap out full and empty crates. Just a thought. Btw, Merry CHRISTmas.
@poprawa

That's stuupid. He would need to lift every log extra 1ft. Storage crate lowered by 1ft is awesome idea tho, as it is lifted by equipment, that doesn't care or get back pain :>

@@poprawa // Clearly I'm not suggesting he make the berm the exact width of the splitter, and in the shape of a box. The total berm width should accommodate the splitter and Donn, and be sloped [regarding the side he stands on]. Remember, he made the hydraulic lift that he stands by adjustable so there's room +/- to accommodate this. FYI, "stupid" is spelled with only one U. Before you say: _"I meant to spell it that way, it should've been obvious"_ please understand, the total width/shape of the berm should've been obvious as well. [edit]: Merry Christmas as well.

If you put the last foot or so of the ramp on a sprung hinge, the weight of the wood would tip the end down and empty itself before the mass of wood started to impinge upon the lower end. Nicely Done, in the mean time.

Переделай верхний гидравлический шланг 9:25 на выход вбок, тогда крышка из лотка будет ложиться горизонтально и лучше закрывать весь механизм привода. --- Change the 9:25 top hydraulic hose to a side outlet so the lid from the tray will lay flat and better cover the entire drive mechanism.

You could make a simple push rod with a flat end on it that you could use to push the logs up the ramp once it is full. Just fully retract your splitter, and wedge your rod in front of it, wedged against the bottom of your log pile --- then just push the logs off the ramp with your splitting ram; throw your push rod to the side and go again. You could get all the logs in one push (or most) and then keep splitting again, without ever leaving your spot.

Lots of good ideas to eliminate dropping chunks,I have another but somewhat different. How about putting the splitter on a 1' deck and lessening the angle of the chute? Keep splitter mobile and make the deck so the splitter can roll on and off. That way you can still use it anywhere but the main spot is less hassle and could be used with taller crates. Just some thoughts. Thumbs up as always.
