Hauling off the pigs and picking up a load of fence posts - Homestead VLOG

We have the pigs loaded up on the livestock trailer and are taking them to the butcher. The I am going to pick up 55 wooden fence posts from farm fence solutions. After that we clean up the pig pen and lock up the goats and chickens in the barn for the night.

The goats love of leaves is the perfect reason to get one of those push leaf collectors to pickup the leaves from the yard and dump them in the goats fenced in areas. Save some money on feed for the leaf falling season by giving them what they want. sure the chickens will scratch in them looking for any hidden bugs but the goats will go nuts on the piles. If you go to that place again for posts remember to drop some straps under the posts bundles before they drop them on the trailer so you can use them to lift the full bundle when you get back the the farm. No need to move individual posts when you have the tools to move them all with some planing ahead of time.

The pigs looked good for the short time u had them .. You & your wife inspired me , this was my 1 st year getting feeder pigs . I got them @ 10 lbs each Apr 5 th Oct 20 th hanging weight was 358 & 345 I was very blessed with lots of sausage & chops 🤣🤣😋😋. Stay Safe & GodBless

We Used To Take a Lot Of Our Hogs To The Amish Butcher.. They Do Really Good Work..& We Even Have A Local Slaughterhouse about 2-3 miles from home But Still Worth it to Take Them All The Way To Amish! When We Didnt Do It Our Self's !

when my dad raised pigs he had a 3pt mover that he put together out of junk lying around, abought the only thing new on it was the sides a piece of welded wire panel that he bent to form a box with a 2 ft opening for a drop down door.could also use as a platform to carry stuff with sides off. and yes pigs will find everthng out there by the way was a rolling cutter/coulter off a moldboard plow in the tree:)

Maybe you could put the goats in the pasture where you had the pigs and let them do a little more of the clean up for you. It seems a lot of the people on you tube that have laying hens aren't getting the number of eggs they used to. That is in all different parts of the country as well. Hope they start laying soon. Chicken egg drop in production. We changed our feed for the chickens from our local coop feed (mix was 14% protein) to Layena and so many other feed , nothing was working. We went back to the 14% pig mix feed and a timer light from being on from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm production is back. The feed Is ground up corn maze etc

It may take more than a week to get them back in sync. Any changes usually takes a couple of weeks for them to catch up on. Side note my oldest hens that were laying well actually stopped laying because I changed up their schedule for the new laying hens, its been a couple weeks and now they are laying again. The chickens will eat far less of the high protein as well. All else fells you've got broth and fresh meat.

I recommend lowering your chicken feeders. Our hens were not laying for a few days about a month ago, we opened up and lowered our nesting boxes so the chickens had easy access. We also lowered our feeders to 2-3 inches off the ground. Since then they have been laying normally

your chickens need lights on til 9 pm.... turn lights on about 5 pm......(14 hours of daylight a day).... i used scratch feed to keep hens bodies warm along with layer mash.....

Idk if its been said already, but couldn't you run the goats through where the pigs were to clean up the lower branches? I think that'd be easier on the clean up you plan to do. Plus it's already fenced from the pigs.

JudithB My critters have been eating like hogs too. I cleaned out the frig for extra feed for the chickens, but it takes a week or so I think to reset their egg laying schedules! LOL The new Rhode Islands are doing well and laying slowly, the Easter Eggers are still on vacation.

My chickens love a good chicken block. It gives them something to do and great nutrition. Blocks do vary from different stores. And whole corn instead of cracked corn. Again, some whole oats, along with what you have. Mix with your cement mixer. Be sure to get some Diatomacious earth to keep them parasite clean. Once a week I give them chopped garlic, thyme, oregano and coconut oil...just a small dish. Hang in there...they will get going on the eggs again.

Nice looking hogs! I've noticed it's getting really hard to find quality fencing products at this time. You're lucky you're not too far from that fencing company. Pigs always find the stuff hidden underground.

It's good that you were concerned about the comfort of your pigs, but, about 5 years ago I bought 5 head of reg. Tamworth hogs and it was late August before I went to Oklahoma to pick them up...it was hot and humid...I removed the front glass from the trailer and sprayed them down with a waterhose at my brother's house in Northwest Arkansas, I lived in Northeast Arkansas about a 6 hour drive I stopped two more times once at a service station and borrowed their water to wet them down again, about an hour and a 1/2 later I stopped at a Feed store and bought 250lbs of wheat shorts to have for them and gave them another soaking....then went home when I got home I mixed a five gallon bucket of feed and water using a drill and wallboard mud mixer to feed them and gave them a good drink of water...hogs don't sweat so they have to lay in wallows in the summers but, they're not as susceptible to getting chilled in winter because they don't sweat....but. regardless when moving hogs in the south in summer you need to prepare to feed them upon arrival wet feed and a good drink

Don't give up on the extra light, it often takes 3 or 4 weeks for an increase in egg production.

How wonderful that you will have so much meat in your freezer! Is it that unusual for chickens to slow down laying this time of year? So many of the homestead channels I watch are all experiencing low to no eggs right now.

Yes, quite normal, due to lower natural light levels and shorter day length and often reduced appetite. Also like most other wild birds they need a "rest period" generally winter time to conserve body condition (that is few if any eggs being produced) and slowly moving towards egg laying in the Spring onwards.

I had a family friend tell me she adds red pepper flakes to chicken feed during the cold season to get them to keep laying eggs while its cold out. Might be something to try.

You two need to get a sow n bull pig to keep as breeders. That way you will never have to worry about having bacon and ham to refill. You'll be raising them. The only wood post that should be put in the ground is Cedar or Black Locust. Both with the ends going in the ground charred with fire. EPA registered wood preservatives changed allot around 2009. I doubt wood post last 10 years now ( My front deck built in 2009 only lasted 8 years) my pool deck built in 2006 is still sound..

As dark as it appears inside your henhouse I feel that you should keep the egg laying light on all day especially if most of them are spending a lot of time indoors during the day rather than outdoors. I thought that it was quite noticable that when you opened up the doors they were hardly rushing to go outside unlike in the summer time. The cats and goat were much more eager!

The clamp on pallet forks are from titan attachments. They clamps don't have a lot of holding powet, you definitely need the chains to really hold on them on the bucket.

you let the chickens loose during the day , chances are they are laying somewhere else . look in every place they can get into they like laying in secluded places . i saw a couple places in the goat area
