Excellent video, lovely to see, pity you couldn't have followed them even for a mile or two, even the slightest bend and they took up the whole of the road. Don't see anything like that in the UK, all jobs that needed scrapers like them are either finished, or the very few that are left never leave the site, - (1 or 2 in quarries), - and those are coming to the end of their working life.

Any idea what it costs to move these. What does the CHP charge for traffic control on a job like this? Anyone else notice the two trains in the background upper right at 1:37

How did you get the sound? I swear I could hear gravel crackling under the tires of the truck and trailer as they swung out wide and off the road for a bit. And its amazing how quickly they can build speed for a run up the first hill. Excellent! Cheers!

It's striking seeing them next to their haul trucks, which look awfully small all of a sudden...

657 is a BIG machine. Tires are about 6' tall.

What coal train. I seen a double stack train
@ke6gwf6 жыл бұрын

@ke6gwf6 жыл бұрын
@@calitrainman there are at least 2 different trains in the video, one of which is a double stack container train, and the other looks like some sort of bulk material train with at least 2 different types of cars, and while I highly doubt it was coal it was hauling, being California and all lol, it may look similar to some types of coal trains elsewhere.
@calitrainman6 жыл бұрын
@@ke6gwf They are both Double Stack trains. It's all good. Yes they run Coal trains in California
@ke6gwf6 жыл бұрын
@@calitrainman no, they are NOT both double stack trains lol The second train on the lower track with the white cars has no double stacked containers on it. And while I know that there is still one coal fired cogen/power plant in California up near Death Valley, there is very little use of coal, and especially not in Southern California, where this train is coming from. So the chances that a load of coal is getting shipped into or out of the LA area is almost zilch, but they may be enclosed gondolas like coal is sometimes shipped in. But not double staked containers! I almost think it is automobile haulers, judging by how they seem to be in sets of 3, rather than all separate cars.

that much weight must shorten the life of the transmission & rears of the truck .
@robertpope97537 жыл бұрын
Negative, that's why there are so many axles. The weight is spread across all the axles, none of them has more weight than that for which is rated. The transmission is rated for the torque of the truck engine.
@asherdie6 жыл бұрын
@@robertpope9753 that's amazing!!! One can increase load without increasing wear on the driveline. Seems miraculous.
@denniswicks76635 жыл бұрын
@@robertpope9753 Nope. The number of axles is determined by the limits the state sets for axle loading. The equipment is capable of way more weight than it is carrying. It's called safety factor or over-delivering. Keeps the customer coming back and telling their friends!
@denniswicks76635 жыл бұрын
@@asherdie Driveline doesn't carry any weight. Long as you don't exceed max torque it is perfectly happy; 40T or 40,000T
