Thank you for such a detailed history of this hotel and its owners, the way it was saved and restored is as interesting as the story of its building by the Trout sisters. Glad it survived the D-Day rehearsal period too

I'm grateful to the sister. They built my home. It's a wonderful place to live and I love it. I sometimes hear footsteps but it doesn't scare me - I feel it's the ladies checking up on things. I chat to them sometimes, and I hope they appreciate the care I take looking after my bit.

I discovered while reading today, the existence of Hallsands and the "lost village". Loving this kind of history I just couldn't resist looking on YT and sure enough found a number of short documentaries, this being by far the best, as it is clearly so personal and made with love and respect. The historic and contemporary photos are brilliant. Im looking forward to searching this place out one day. It's so great people take the time to document our heritage and history and amazing people such as the trout sisters obviously were. Thank you so much for your work.

Nice job m8, I'm impressed with the sisters, and Robin Price. Determination and a will to succeed that it! My Grandfather was like that. Came Back from Galipoli and France, and opened a Hoadleys Loolly outlet, and Delivered to his customers up to the early 60s on his pushbike to keep his costs down. Retired at 93, died at 95. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for reliving some memories of the 1960's when I regularly visited Kingsbridge and always visited the houses that were almost gone apart from elderly lady who lived in the one remaining house and she was always so friendly. I also remember looking through the windows of the hotel and seeing the salt and pepper and tables and I seem to remember wicker type chairs and tables but can't be sure still on the tables but not a soul in site. I went around the back of the house once and there was a very old lady all dressed in black who luckily didn't spot me being nosey. I guess she must have been the last remaining sister. I really wish now that I had spoken to her and risk being chased away:-) Thank you I really enjoyed your video.

What an amazing story about the Trout sisters, and one well worth remembering for their sheer persistence and hard work! I noticed that Ella was awarded the OBE, do you know why that was, Chris? They did a brilliant job with the build and I'm so pleased it's still standing and in great condition today 👌👏

Very interesting & informative photos - how did Ella get her OBE? I had no idea they actually built Prospect House with their own bare hands - these women were the epitome of TOUGH and need a good story telling about how they lived & survived through their own will, determination & tenacity - no handouts, I'll be bound! No sense of entitlement! I love how they insisted on staying when the Americans took over - the tales they must have had to tell - they should have got OBE's for that alone! Quite amazing! Thanks for shining a light on a piece of local history which needs to be told & appreciated. Ought to make an amazing movie...

The destruction of Hallsands was as a direct result of the removal of thousands of tons of pebbles that broke the violence of the seas waves. The pebbles went to build Plymouth Dockyard.
@johnjephcote7636 Жыл бұрын
I understood that Hallsand's demise was the result of dredging offshore gravel bars in order to build the admiralty harbour works at Portland. This exposed the village to increasingly heavy wave action, especially in times of storm.
