MORE NOLA VIDEOS - • New Orleans Virtual Tours
New Orleans is rumored to have a strong presence of ghosts and spirits. The city’s reputation for its connection to the supernatural has led authors like Anne Rice (“Interview with the Vampire”) to set their stories here.
In this video, you will stop outside of Muriel's Jackson Square, a restaurant serving creole food. It sits on the location of a man who ended his own life. The restaurant is frequently visited by his spirit. There is even a table reserved nightly for his spirit - on which you can dine.
You then will arrive at the LaLaurie Mansion, made famous in American Covent, and once owned by Nicolas Cage. You will hear the horrific story of the sadistic Delphine LaLaurie and the haunted spirits of the enslaved humans who became victims of her torture.
And lastly, you will hear the story of the Axman, who terrorized many in the Italian-American community of New Orleans, and would spare lives whenever jazz music was being played.

It blows my mind that there were survivors found in the Lalaurie house and still ‘nobody knows’ what happened?!? Why didn’t anyone just ask the people who were there? It speaks volumes about how little their testimony meant at that time. Nobody thought to freaking ask them what happened, or thought it valid enough to write down?

I recently did the tour and really enjoyed the guide's enthusiasm that she demonstrated when she shared the stories. It was a smaller group which made it easier to hear over the hustle and bustle of the city. I felt bad at the end when several people left without paying. I feel that if you are going to go on a tour and enjoy and experience, then you should contribute, we all gotta pay it forward.

As far as Hollywood, one of my favorites that brought voodoo to the front for me was "Skeleton Key". I read the book "The Witching Hour" by Ann Rice. Of course I saw "Interview with a Vampire". However, "The Witching Hour" was the turning point. I read it and it was like I visually saw the Garden District. I had never been to New Orleans, and at that point knew I had to go. I have since been there many times. I call it or feel I have some kind of kindred spirit with New Orleans, maybe all of do that fall in love with the place. I also feel I have a tingle and feeling of ghosts. I have not seen a ghost that I am aware of in New Orleans, but I have felt something. I do think I have seen ghosts in the town I live. There is something special about the above ground burial cemeteries, and than the "Holt Cemetery".

The Witching Hour is an amazing book for transporting you completely to the Garden District. I read it every spring as a sort of end-of-winter tonic and I always feel like I'm right there. I visited, too, as a direct result of reading the book, and it was a surreal experience to be in such a magical place in person. Will never get tired of that book. :)

Just did the ghost tour with FTBF this past week. Would love to have had Sandy as our guide. While the stories were great, our guide was challenged to give us the best that he could because there were so many various ghost tours taking place at the same time. At one location there were five different groups all jockeying for a position. Our guide had to give us the story while we were looking down the street trying to figure out which building we were supposed to be looking at. And it was a bit harder to hear because the guide was trying not to be too loud in order to not disrupt the other groups in the vicinity...not a courtesy that some of the other tour guides reciprocated. Overall a enjoyable tour but if you are taking it during a busier time of year, be prepared for traffic jams of tours.

The documentary Sandy gave about how that woman tortured the slaves is so horrific that not even a show like "American Horror Stories" could capture. It is generally known that such shows embellish history, and their lack of true historical context usually makes it unbelievable. What Sandy told us is so heartbreaking and supported by the historical context, it's hard to imagine anything more brutal and morbidly justified by the times. Thank you for sharing the truths of the past without mincing words. I think people need to know the truth.

Part of the oddity of about Louisiana is that the tombs are about the ground, this is do to it being below the water table. I am sure that many ghost stories were created about floating bodies during floods that made great stories. A lot of drinking and partying occurred in French Quarters creating stories just like the gambling town of Deadwood. History is interesting and the history of the History even more!♥️❤️💕♥️❤️💕

Just to share, there is a vey similar incident to the Lalaurie tale from Atlanta and a vaguely similar one from Jackson Mississippi. Some of the details from the other two stories have occasionally been crossed between the tales. The Atlanta case was a widow. Her enslaved persons had been confiscated under antiabuse laws, but neighbors bought them at auction and gave them back because they didn't believe the charges. Shortly after was when one of the enslaved set fire to the kitchen.

The LaLaurie house is no joke. While I agree that the scene confronting the authorities when they discovered the secret room the slaves were abused in was likely sensationalized somewhat, it was sufficiently bad enough that the LaLauries had to flee New Orleans immediately afterwards, so outraged was public opinion even in antebellum New Orleans. On Reddit, there is a harrowing account of a woman taking a job as a housekeeper there a few years ago without knowing the history of the place. While working there over the period of about a month, her experiences were so terrifying she fled without giving notice, not even going back to pick up her paycheck. On the subreddit "paranormal," search for "Working at the LaLaurie House." Just don't read it right before bedtime if you want to get a good night's sleep.

@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Ok...it's 2007, two years after Katrina and New Orleans is trying to come back. Hotels are cheap even in the Quarter so we decided to stay at the Place D'Armes. Beautiful hotel. We enjoyed the stay immensely. We had an interior room without windows, perfect for a couple of night shifters who sleep in daytime. It was a double room because that's what was available. We were sleeping in our own beds. I awoke feeling something or someone moving my bed. I felt the covers move and the mattress sink down as though someone was climbing into bed behind me. I thought at first it was my hubby feeling his way to the bathroom which was across from my bed. Then I thought he was just getting in bed with me. At that exact moment he begins screaming, "There's someone in here! There's someone in here with us!" I bolted upright and looked around the pitch dark room to see the glow of a light in the closet...but there was no light in the closet. The hair on the back of my neck stood up and I turned the light on. There was no one there. He said he felt as if someone was trying to strangle him...I felt someone trying to snuggle with me. Anyway, we didn't go back to sleep. We spent the rest of the day out in the Quarter as we were supposed to check out the next morning July 5. After the fireworks that night we were walking back to the hotel and we were both feeling it but didn't say it for a while. Finally he said to me, "I don't want to sleep in that room tonight." I said, "I really don't either. We're supposed to leave in the morning anyway and you know I"d rather drive through the night, why don't we just go ahead and check out?" He agreed and right at midnight on the dot we were merging onto I-10 headed back to Tennessee. Hand on the Bible this really happened.
