I live in a few towns away from this location, and I run with a volunteer fire company out of an area located near this. I wasnt along on this specific trip, but it's very often we get search and rescue calls and Hawk Mountain. People go hiking, lose track of time, and get lost in the dark. One of the men went in on this day to fetch a family who got lost in the dark. He's a pretty average straightforward hard-working guy, he doesn't read into any sort of ghost story or anything like that. When he walked in two men approached him, and it was dark. But he could have swore one of them was wearing Civil War soldier garb. He asked the two men where the people were, to which they both pointed in the same direction. He thanked the men and then they walk past him towards the exit. The way they pointed was correct, we retrieve the patients and exited. When he came out he asked the other firefighters were the two men went and if the one was really wearing Civil War garb. They told him no men walked out of the forest. And they were waiting by the exit at watching the whole time. Anytime someone tries to ask him about this he refuses to talk about it.

Matthias Schaumboch was the name. There are many mutilations of the spelling but his name does not have an "er" at the end. His gravestone did not go missing. At one point the stone was damaged and replaced but it attracted too many unwanted visitors so the replacement stone was intentionally removed decades ago. His grave is all the way up in the far corner at the top of the hill. There is a legend that if you step on his grave you will suffer a leg injury shortly thereafter. I don't subscribe to those sorts of stories but both my Wife and I ventured up there separately one day and both of us ended up with ankle or knee injuries in the next few days afterward. So there's that for what it's worth. Thanks for the efforts you put into these videos. I've discovered many new places to photograph because of your channel.

Whoa! Hawk Mountain! Dude, I was there at least 3 - 4 times a year with my dad back in the 50s and 60s. In those days we parked along side the road and all that was there was a sign indicating the entrance to the hiking trail. We loved hiking to the top, looking at the huge block of limestone near the observation outcrop of rocks. They used to have a placard on that limestone which indicated that was the remains of ancient sealife, like shell fish, clams etc. This indicated that at one time that entire mountain had been under about 300 feet of water! The last time I was there was in 1968, with my Dad. So many memories you brought back to me. Thanks!

There is a State Park in PA called Salt Springs. Hiking trails, creek with water falls and of course the salt spring. The spring was discovered by the Indians of this area they believed that it had healing purposes. I really think that you would love this walk and the nature that surrounds you . Thank you for the respectful treatment of the subject matter and the people now living in that building. The story about the murders at Schambacher's tavern is remarkably similar to the serial murders at a tavern located here near Coffeyville, Kansas in the late 1800s. Word spread about the happenings at the Kansas tavern and it was besieged by souvenir hunters (!) who essentially dismantled the structure and it no longer exists. I think the remaining bits of the tavern were eventually burnt down.
@brantmorrison37046 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Hours after watching the video I was wondering how common it was to prey on travelers. I guess it is more common than most people think. Have ever heard of the Holmes murders in Chicago around 1900 near the Columbian Exposition/World's Fair? It depends what you read about them, but Holmes did confess to/is accused of a lot of murders.

@@NotOnDrugs one night a buddy of mine and I went up there and as soon as we got to the spot we would normally set up shop in we saw 6 blueish white balls of light about the size of a large beach ball towards the top of the cemetery. They were making their way down the hill moving in and out of the stones then when the got roughly half way down the hill toward us they all fanned out and went out like someone hit a light switch. I took off running up the hill to see if I could catch anyone and there was nobody to be found. We were the only ones in the cemetery. On the way back down the hill we heard a woman say “hi fellas” right next to us when nobody was there. That was my craziest night there. The most common thing we would hear up there is someone whistling kinda like a “heads up” type of whistle you would hear it in one part of the cemetery and go check it out then you’d hear it somewhere else, you’d go to that spot and then you’d hear it again somewhere else almost like it was toying with you LOL!!! After a while I noticed a pattern we would only hear it when we were there alone and more people were about to show up in the cemetery. We would go up there all the time and it was always hit or miss as far as activity goes. So nights when nothing was happening and other people showed up me and my buddy used to mess with them and scare the shit outta people LOL

I've seen that in a movie that I believe was made back in the 60s. I believe the movie was mostly about the civil war. But there was one part in the movie where soldiers stopped at a house for food and to rest for a bit. One solider went into the barn and found confederate uniforms, apparently the faimly was killing people and dumping the bodies in a pit under the house. James Collbern was the main actor. ( not shure of the spelling of his last name). It may have been about this tavern. But this was out west somewhere. Thanks for the video enjoyed it.

The tavern used to be the Gift Shop for Hawk Mt.(70's) and it's history was well known then. Charles Adams mentions a few other tales of "The Eck" in his books. I think the mounted cat is in state museum in Harrisburg I do a lot of hunting + fishing up there the fog in among the hills can play tricks with you. Even "found" a tombstone in the corner of the Game Lands but never really had any "spooky" happenings..... unless you count walking into my turkey hunting spot one year in a bears footsteps and judging from the "steaming piles" he/she was far gone.
