Wow you were flowing once again. The reason I love the original so much..is because it just keeps this really smooth naturalistic tone throughout..visually and dialogue wise. It is ahead of its time. The comic moments unlike other later horror movies seems to be very unforced and it doesn't conflict with the horror elements. Theres something to be said for creating a world that feels very real and natural..sometimes just as if not more important than impressive visuals and clever dialogue. Just love it

Found you on Letterboxd, started watching, and this was really well put together, great job! :) I spent my Christmas watching all three back to back having never seen one before and was shocked at how different they are. 1974 has an awesome opening, the phone calls and early kills are genuinely disturbing and well executed. I just think as you said the second act drags a bit, but I could see this movie growing on me when I rewatch it come Christmas time again. Could have been the wrong viewing experience for me as well. 2006 was an absolute blast. I absolutely love campy, over the top horror though. This is exactly what I think a remake should be. Take the original idea behind something, but changing the characters, events, and story to be similar enough to pay respect/homage, but different enough to make it a story worth telling. Shot for shot remakes are pretty pointless in my eyes. This is Black Christmas reinvented for the torture porn horror era of the mid 2000s. One other thing I like most is that this film ties it's (surprising gory and violent) kills into the holiday more. Plenty of holiday themed slashers use their gimmicks sparingly, but candy canes, lights, cookies, and Christmas trees are all utilized to great effect. I love seeing the theme leaned into more. 2019 is truly awful. At the end of the day, it's more concerned with it's messaging than actually being scary OR fun, plus the supernatural twist muddling the messaging and being lame. I agree with the sentiments the commentary was trying to get across, but you can definitely do it in a less cringey way that isn't arguably more harmful than helpful. Even though it's so in your face, if you try to ignore the messaging, the movie loses all bite due to the PG-13 rating. The only reason I'd watch it again is to show someone else how not to handle political messaging in a movie. At the moment, 2006 > 1974 > 2019. Once again, good video, subbed.

Stick with the original classic. Once it's over, you can feel Billy's presence. Let's hope the phone doesn't ring. Give the 2006 remake another chance, it's definitely insane. 2019 can stay in the trashcan. It's just lame and a waste of time. They couldn't even do the Exorcist 3 jumpscare right, so lame with no impact.

The original and 2006 are annual watches for me as well, I love them both. The original is of course the best film, it was scarier and a good example of less is more. But the 2006 is more entertaining, even if over-the-top and kind of cartoonish. The 2019 was awful, Halloween 2018 was a better metoo movie, it follows same basic plot of a traumatised female standing up to a male predator, with a far better female empowering climax. Anyway Merry Christmas :)

Glen Morgan was mostly prominent for his work on "The X-Files", along with his partner James Wong. Together they wrote some of the best episodes of "The X-Files". Which makes it all the more shocking, to me, that he wrote this 2006 remake of "Black Christmas". Holy hell, I don't know what he was thinking with this one! I just watched this film the other night, after watching the original a few weeks ago. It took me two tries to get through it. And it is a mess. Yes, I know that Weinstein messed with his film and ruined his plans, like some users mentioned here, but for the film to be this disjointed makes me think the original script must not have been very good in the first place. There is so much overload in backstory that you just get swallowed up by it; there is literally no mystery to the film. What sucks is that you can see hints of Glen's work in "The X-Files", in some of the disturbing details in the plot; but it's just way too much, and it's in your face. It could have been done much more subtly, with newspaper clippings, and phone calls, etc. And where is everyone, by the way? The original was teeming with people, which made it all the creepier that Billy could hide in plain sight. The original was a pretty good film. I don't know if I consider it a classic, like some people do, but I definitely see its appeal, and it was very well done. And there are some legitimately creepy scenes in the film, even if there are also some frustrating ones. What shocked me in the remake is also how little the characters are built up, and how no one among the ladies has any sense of camaraderie, except for the final two. There is a way to do this film and have it be effectively creepy, even while still being a bloody slasher, but this is not it. It must have been one of Glen's off days. I haven't seen the third film, and after seeing this video I plan to stay clear of it; it sounds like an "in name only" remake. This was a good comparison of the three films. It elaborated on each one's strengths and weaknesses. Incidentally, that "frat house to politician pipeline" line reminds me of "Skull and Bones" (which is creepy as hell). The 2006 film does look good, I will admit. It's shot well. But it's just...soulless, in my opinion. You can tell it was just a cash grab, done solely for the cash. Which is fine; I'm more forgiving than some when it comes to horror remakes. But I was just left....disappointed, and tired.

For me the original is 1 of my favorite horror movies ever. It's suspenseful, creepy, unnerving and just has some great themes that were probably not brought to light as much as they should've in that time period. I'm not a fan of the 2006 remake and the 2019 remake can fuck off. It's a cheap PG13 SLASHER that doesn't know the meaning of subtlety. It has themes that could be really interesting to explore especially because it's a Black Christmas movie but fails because the script is horrible and adds bs Magical elements and the characters are all so unlikable. There's a way to make a great feminist horror movie and the 1974 version does it all brilliantly. Anyways, Merry Christmas Kylie and hope you had a great day!

The OG is an awesome proto slasher and and a very good psychological horror. Classic! 2006 remake is pretty fun, over the top as f*ck but surprisingly festive for such a deranged Billy's back story :) I doubt they decided to make Billy yellow because they think people with skin condtion are scary. It was just another reason for his mother to despise him. Well, on the other hand he looked quirky indeed, I guess I would be more scared of the yellow dude, than a regular guy popping out of nowhere in a dark attic. Not because I hate people who have skin conditon, but because it's unexpected, it's a primal thing, not hateful thing. About the older sister, she was there to be a red herring (suggesting presence of Agnes). We know Billy is not the killer at first, they tried to make it a whodunit slasher partialy. But I would say it was not executed properly. About a guy playing Agnes. It was a dude working on production. He was casted as Agnes just to surpirse the audience. I doubt there are some transphobic intensions there. 2019 remake, well, it is weak movie for various reasons, and I didn't really like it. But I think in few years it might gain some sort of praise for being a solid reflection of our times. No subtlety + a loud debate reminding twitter argument. It's a shame they wasted this movie, because issues they tried to point out are worth noticing for sure. I think Jeniffer's Body did all what they tried to do sooooo much better, and in more both fun and inteligent way. Cheers!

So now that I finished the video, so glad to hear you Changed you mind on the original. And yeah I think everyone thought it was peter. Nicely done by them. And its a shame the remakes suck. Awesome video. Wasn't expecting this considering you thought the original was boring. Completely disagree, but that's ok. We all have different opinions. To me its such a classic. Cinematography, camera work, lighting, atmosphere, all things I love, are all on point. Bill is an excellent antagonist/killer. Truly creepy and terrifying. Just one of my favorites. I love it. As for the remakes they can go jump off a cliff. Complete trash. Black X-mas is an abomination. And the newer one is just worried about shoving it's views down your throat throughout the entire run time and is telling the audience that men are horrible pigs obsessed with sexualy assaulting women constantly. Its just horrible writing. So their message was lost. So the original is the only Black Christmas film in existence to me. But thank you for this video.✌

While I Deeply Appreciate The Original For Everything That It's Done For The Horror Genre At The Time, For Me, Black Christmas 2006 Remake Is The Winner. I LOVED The Sorority Vibes Of The Killer's House & Sorority-Like Chemistry Between All Of The Girls. The Girls In General Are Well Casted Too In My Opinion. The Kills Were Both Disturbingly But Beautifully Gory To It's Appropriate Tone. Disturbing As The Backstory Is, I Feel Like Part Of The Appeal Of That Movie Is How Deeply Disturbing That Backstory About Billy Is For Many Horror Fans. I Overall Thought The Film Was A Lot Of Fun & The Fact That My BAE Katie Cassidy Is The Lead This Time & Manages To Live By The End Of The Film On Top Of That Made My Vote A Lot Easier On Top Of Everything Else. As Far As The 2019 Black Christmas Remake. It Is A Decent Remake But A Lot Of The Problem Heavily Relies On The Partial Social Commentary Of Female Empowerment Shoving All Males Down Rather The Female Empowerment Of Overcoming Actual Life-Threatening Circumstances & I Hate It When Female Empowerment In Horror Films & Films In General Are Heavily Relied On Shaming All Males Rather Than Focusing On The Empowerment Of Overcoming Tragedies. That To Me Is Even More Annoying When It's Shoved Wayyy Too Deep Down Both Males & Females' Throats For A Political Message/Statement. So Definitely Black Christmas 2006 Wins This Comparison Discussion. The Original Is Horrifyingly Brilliant. The 2006 Remake Is Horrifyingly Fun & The 2019 Remake Is Horrifyingly Horrible/The Worst.

You know its honestly a shame black Christmas 2019 was a failure. It had so much potential. Hell I'd argue a movie like Black Christmas is relevant now more than ever. Look at how many school shootings have happened in the last couple years. You could have a lot of commentary on mental health, and... dare i say it, even toxic masculinity like the 2019 film tried. Or hell, why switch things up and make the killer a female? Maybe she went to the sorority long ago and had a bad experience with the other girls and the teachers and it effected her.
