The republic of Cuba… This island state in the Caribbean sea still carries the romantic vibe of the 1959 revolution. After dictator Batista was brought down, the country has received an unofficial nickname, the Island of Freedom. For more than half a century its residents live in a socialist system with free education, medicine and retirement benefits.
As life expectancy continues to soar, more and more of us are living to well over the age of 100. We ask some of the oldest people in the world the question everyone wants answered: what is the secret to long life?

In the last three years, the United States has lost 40% of its bees, which have disappeared in 24 states. This is happening in Brazil and in almost every part of the world. Not in Cuba, in this Cuban country bees have not decreased, due to the non-use of pesticides in crops, gardens and fruit production. It's definitely one of the reasons we live so long.

I'm Puerto Rican, Cuba was our sister island, then the USA happened. (Historical fact: the CIA lost control of Batista, decided to get rid of him and replace him with, of all people, Fidel Castro. Who was upper middle class and they actually thought they could control him. I was still in the category of kid, but even I knew who Fidel's best friend was and I had no doubt that was a stupid idea. People can blame who they want but the USA was #1 responsible.) They also invaded PR in 1898 and destroyed the economy of a RICH nation, thanks to the location, which meant CENTER OF COMMERCE between Europe and the American continents. Still there, with now billionaires from the US are buying all the land in PR that comes up for sale, while around 60% of Puerto Ricans had to move to the US, already. I have my own small wildlife habitat in Minnesota that I started from a property of all usless lawn. This last year, I had over 100 wild Bumble bees by the start of cold season. When I moved there I could only find on mother/daughter pair. There is still hope for bees, but most people in the US do NOT really care.

The Cuban lifestyle is very different from the USA. They consume fewer calories and they burn more calories. They walk almost daily and usually more than a mile. Their covid19 death rates are minuscule in comparison to the USA. I know 80 year old people who are still working in Cuba. My friend Sosa is 8w and he climbs four flights of stairs several times a day leaving and returning to his apartment. He doesn't have an elevator. He doesn't take any medicine and 9 of his eleven siblings are still alive.

Same with Caribbean’s. You cannot wear shoes in the house and after you arrive home you must take those clothes off shore and wear clothing that’s only for indoors. I found it weird but they hardly have colds or flus

My 96 yo brother, soon to be 97 is healthy. So is my 95 yo sister. My 91 yo brother still works his heavy machine business 5 days a week 8-5. My 80 yo brother threatens to retire in a year or two! My little sis and brother, 68 and 66 are still working and taking care of t heir kids and grandkids.

I wish this series go into more detail about what people specifically eat in each area. Just saying vegetables and fruits isn't good enough. A lot of people around the world eat fruits and vegetables but not all live long. All the people in the Carribean/West Indies eat pretty much the sane thing but they are not all living long.

They eat nothing. There is no food. Yes free healthcare with no meds. No hospital supplies. Of course they live longer. Fasting works miracles. Then again you can be anemic. This is documentary is full of crap.

Having visited Cuba twice (5 years apart), they eat what they grow and grow what they eat. The meals consist of a lot of fresh foods... Fish, Pork (and it's by-products). Natural juices like Guava, Coconut Water, Papaya and Pineapple and fruits like Banana, Oranges and Sugar Cane. They do not seem to consume a lot of starch available like Rice, Green Banana and Rice but more vegetables. There are usually lines for eggs and bread which seems to be consumed a lot. Transportation is scare so those without motor vehicles ride bicycles (which are also converted to modes of transport). This seems to keep them fit along with A WHOLE LOT OF WALKING). They also seem to enjoy going to the beach (as swimming is an excellent form of exercise) and other regular exercise. Those who live near the sea are always enjoying it by fishing etc.. They also like to enjoy themselves by laughing and dancing, drinking and smoking (my only annoyance). They are also hard workers (which keeps them fit) along with completing their own chores (no house help). Although there are no fast food shops there are many overweight Cubans as EVERYONE IS NOT POOR. There are Cubans who live a good life plus they are very good Haglers 😊. They means generally speaking as I'm no expert after 2 visits. Oh, I really like how educated they are and mostly bi-lingual.

The best decision a country can make. Don't let foreign entities in your country. Or your People's will suffer. Eat what you grow. Help one another. Love the elderly, and the young ones will never STRAY from there history. Do not sell your country or people's to foreign entities. Strengthen the women's, through them you get a nation.

It's not a competition, It's a series show casing old people in different regions. Perhaps politely reach out to the producers of this show so that they film your region with your guidance since you seem to know plenty of older people in their Hundred and something years.
