I, too, hiked to Havasu Falls and campground in 1978!! It was hiking in only, no mules to carry our heavy backpacks, and certainly no helicopter ride out!! Luckily we were healthy and strong kids in our late 20’s at that time. The falls were vivid blue and it was a magical place. I remember swimming in the pools at the bottom of the falls. I also vaguely remember soaking in hot springs nearby. We stayed at the campground for 2-3 nights and had a good time exploring the area. 10 miles in and 10 miles out…it was quite the adventure. Thanks for sharing this as it brings back great memories of my youth. On this same trip, we were living in Jackson, Wyoming at the time and took off during the spring mud season for at least a month, we explored and reveled in the Grand Canyon…hiked down to Phantom Ranch and back up again. That hike changed me forever. Loved Zion and Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, camping and hiking all the way. I am so glad I did these things when I was young. Congratulations on making the trip.

We did this one just few years after we got married in 1979 and after we had our first baby girl. We still remembered how blue-green color of the water at those falls. One of my fav hikes ( I did this one 3 times with different partners). Thanks for sharing, it brought back some fond memories for us.

What a wonderful video! I went with my fiancee and some friends in April and commemorated my 50th birthday with a tremendously challenging hike out to the Confluence on the eve of my birthday! I love your spirit, and hope my fiancee and I can be as adventuresome as you are in our coming years! Cheers and God bless you! Mike

Thank you for the nice comments. We just finished day 10 of the Camino Primitivo. We only have 4 to go until we reach Santiago de compostela. It has been so fun, hard, and different. We will have a KZbin summary ready at the end of June.

It's a first come, first served situation. Try to get to the village by 8 am. You'll still wait several hours. Helicopter only operates Thursday, Friday, Sunday & Monday. $100/person cash or $110 credit card. You can still send your backpack on the mules if you've paid for that service. Have fun and talk to the villagers. You'll learn a lot. Happy hiking!
