A year ago I had 10 birds. Now I have almost 50 birds, and over 100 eggs in 3 different incubators. All because of the advice I received from these two guys!! I absolutely love these guys.

I live in a small town with restrictions on what kind of animals you can have on your property (no livestock). I have been considering rabbits for a while and found Slightly Rednecked from my research, and I was already thinking about Silver Foxes, so that was an immediate subscribe! Then I saw him mention quail and double checked my city ordinance regarding livestock and found them conveniently missing from the list. Now the wheels are turning for 2 different animals and on only a 1/4 acre. Time to work on my cage building skills!

I credit Chris for a BIG part of my first-year success raising quail simply for his hutch build videos. Thank you, Chris! I house my birds outside in my yard. I built 5 hutches of various sizes last year using Chris’s quail hutch design with a few small variations….it works very well for outdoor housing up in Canada where I live. I had no problems with predators (we have skunks, raccoons, domestic dogs and cats, weasels, coyotes, etc here). Rural small town. I did not overwinter my quail outside, simply because the outside temps are too low to provide water.

Definitely one of the best videos I've seen. Commercial quail farm V/S private quail farm. I totally love the information I'm getting from this interaction. We bought a $1000 dollar commercial incubator and I had a 75% hatch rate from mail order eggs from Texas, I'm in Tennessee. So the incubator is superb when it comes to the perfect climate and temperature. Coturnix quail, btw!

I’ve only been watching KZbin videos for about a year and a half and came across Chris cause I liked the channel name and wow he has quail and interesting information. Then follow a few other channels and they have/had quail, my brain started working. Then Myshirefarms and well game over. Now I have quail and Zack and Chris were major reasons for the interest. Now there are a few other people I follow and basically these people all agree on self-sufficiency and that’s what I like.

Used the Little Giant on my 2nd hatch. Was 9+ day old eggs. Likely closer to 11. 9 days in shipping. Got about 52 percent hatch which was more than expected. Used still air model. Would have rater fan. Heat prove was loose on a plastic sheet too so EVERY TIME opening it, the sensor would end up in a slightly different place throwing the temp calibration off. In the still air model, I imagine it was much worst than fan. I noticed I sometimes had to do an adjustment of nearly 4 degrees Celsius to maintain what was a settled temp prior to. Almost lost my eggs due to first time discovering it. Was low and I have no idea how long for.

I have used a lot of cheep-o incubators, and some do a good job but most dont and have little issues like keeping temp and humidity levels where you want them, like most do. I eventually upgraded and bought 5 Borotto 24 automatic incubator's with humidity pump & bottle, and man I wouldn't go to anything else now, I feel spoiled.. :D Anyway I really enjoy your videos, thank you Sir, it was interesting getting two perspectives from the pro's.

How quickly do you need to get the eggs so they don't freeze if you plan on trying to hatch them in an incubator? My cage is in the garage during winter (outdoor run otherwise) but the garage isn't insulated so it's still pretty cold. This batch is just starting to lay and I want to raise a next batch soon. These are from Zach's business btw, lol.

Yes, you can keep quite a few hens together and the corresponding number of roosters (ie: 25 hens and 5 roosters) if you give them enough space, and you can switch out your roosters without too much trouble….but it’s best not to switch the hens out once they’ve developed their pecking order or you might have aggression problems…
