Couldn’t agree more 🙌 we live in a very prone to damp house and had been using the unibond moisture absorbers hoping that’d be enough, (they fill within a week, last flat we were in and they lasted months!) we saved up and got a dehumidifier a few months ago and it’s been amazing. It has a special washing mode, our washing dries so much quicker now. The amount of water it collects there’s no wonder why we had so many problems before it.

Hannah, one thing I'll say is I wish I had your ability to be on multiple books at a time! Like you will be listening to one as an audio book and reading a physical book while still on the audio book. I feel I'd get so distracted and mixed up if I tried to do that! But I am hoping to read more in 2025!

I have a question about the UK in terms of laundry: do you guys not really have dryers in your flats/homes? I've never seen a drying clothes rack like that, because in the US, all homes/flats just have a set of washers and dryers (or you have to go to a laundromat).
@alissa6380
@alissa6380 3 күн бұрын
I'm in mainland Europe, so I don't know about the UK specifically, but in my area a lot of new builds and apartments for rent include a washer but not a dryer. We don't really have laundromats (although I've seen one or two pop up in recent years) so a washer is a must, but I think a lot of people see dryers as either unnecessary or taking up too much space, or wasting too much power. It's like, why pay for something that will happen naturally over a slightly longer period of time? (Some people dry clothes on their balconies, and I've even seen clotheslines in the shared green spaces of older apartment buildings being used as recently as last summer. It's definitely not as common as it was 20-30 years ago, but it still happens.) There's also just the fact that so much of modern clothing isn't dryer-friendly (e.g., you should never heat-dry anything containing even 1% of elastane, I learned this the hard way😭), so a dryer just feels less necessary when you can't even use it on half your wardrobe.

@@tiredandcaffeinated also, I don't mean that *nobody* has/uses dryers, just that it's not universal. in my family home, for example, we've always had a dryer in the house, but about ten, fifteen years ago once the kids were grown and started moving out, it fell out of use and has been used maybe a few times in all the time since, though it still functions well

Hi ! I’m french and here some families have a dryer. Personaly, we bought ours when we had a baby to speed up the process and avoid having 3 or 4 drying racks at all time between clothes and bedsheets. We use ours mainly for towels and linens. My husband uses it also for his clothes but I don’t put mine and our children’s because I think it tends to damage them over time.
@hucklebucklin
@hucklebucklin 2 күн бұрын
Electricity is significantly more expensive in Europe than in America so that's why people dry indoors on a clothes horse. Also as the other commenters said drying clothes can damage the fabric so that's often a reason people don't dry stuff using a dryer. But yes people do use them sometimes. I would use mine pretty rarely. Only in the depths of winter when stuff won't try inside that quickly

Random question for anyone reading the comments section from the UK (or anywhere else in the world, while we're on the topic) from an American: Do children start school based on the year they were born, or based on their age at the start of the school year? Hannah mentioned Rowan starting preschool nursery in September in the Thursday section of the vlog. Preschool isn't isn't really standardized in the US (it seems to be a little bit more so in the UK)? but in general, preschool (not in a full time daycare situation) is for the three years before the start of kindergarten. my son was born in November of 2022, and I believe Rowan was born in the spring of 2022. the age cutoff for school (and therefore usually preschool, so that kids start "real school" right after they finish preschool) in the US varies throughout the country, but it is generally some time in August or September (around when the new school year begins), so Rowan would be a year ahead of my son in school here. I believe my Australian sister-in-law has said that they started school based on the year they were born (so Rowan and my son would start school the same year, in this example, although other). I'm just curious if, as with the standard vs. metric system, Americans do things differently then pretty much everyone else in the world hahaha.

Hey! Kids in the UK start school the September before they turn 5. Kids generally start what we call preschool at 3 years old but it's not compulsory and there's lots of other childcare options like nursery or a childminder that other families choose. Hope that clears things up

Fair enough I'm pregnant now but the past 2 years of trying to convince and unsuccessful Ivf treatments were super upsetting. It is a cliche but will happen when you do not even expect it. We started this last ivf round with a negative mindset and a miracle happened. Do not give up, it'll happen and soon you'll be planning your mat leave. 🤗

If you really want to learn about REAL Jews Hannah and real judaism then I'd follow Jewish voices for peace who for Hannuka right now are celebrating the Jews who stood up against fascism and genocide and are celebrating the true story of Hannuka which is fighting light in the darkness and fighting against oppression in this case even when its being carried out by so called Jews but in Jews name.You would have thought being Jew-ish or Muslim or Christian or anything really would be more about standing up for what is right,teaching your child about history including the holocaust but also when a genocide is done in the name of Jewish people What is the point of these traditions and stories of they are not teaching us to be better himna beings,to stand up for truth and against oppression,to be brave and true
