I know UK is larger, but Mongols were more impressive, as they conquered formidable empires and civilizations, just in the 1200s. The UK just had a lot of impressive technology and a powerful navy. So they just went around and took land from some newly discovered place. UK colonization definitely needed skill, but I find the land conquest of the Mongols to be more impressive.
@LHSMeleeClub4 жыл бұрын
@XI Crez dude have you seen a map of the mongol empire? sure it was all land only, but they literally wiped out civilization after civilization encroaching all the way into eastern europe. the kingdoms in eastern europe were often on the retreat of these invasions as well as the mongols were that formidable. from my understanding of when i last read into it, literally, it was the death of the main mongol Khan leader at the time that caused the invasion into eastern europe to halt solely because the mongol leaders of that front wanted to pay respects to their Khan so they returned home. also the mongols nearly took Japan at certain points but apparently their fleets got wrecked by storms because it was the 1200s after all so naval stuff was not as developed

In matter of fact England (GB) DID "invade" Sweden once. During the Napoleonic wars Napoleon demanded Sweden to declare war on Great Britain or else he would invade Sweden. Sweden declared war and hoped for the best, with no real intention of fighting. Great Britain used this as an excuse to "invade" and occupy an uninhabited island in the Blekinge archipelago and used it to store material needed for their Baltic armada. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Swedish_War_(1810%E2%80%931812)

PUSB 96 Not really, British people never invaded the lands that were previously polish - and most of them were taken by Soviets. If anything help that was aided to Britain, by polish people in WW2 - on the actual british territory and with those standards could be counted as polish invasion on Britain. But then again with twisted rules like that almost every bigger country could tell they invaded at least half of the world at some time.

PUSB 96 1. I said „by British”. And Nazis werent British. And 2. who do you call an idiot, if you can’t even read?
@mjm30916 жыл бұрын
Mazovian Mapping I think he was referring to that Britain fought Germany when Nazis did occupied some of the polish lands. Still as I said - it can't be fully counted as Poland was mostly invaded by Soviets (as it had different shape than today). Also invading one country doesn't make you invade countries that are also invaded at a time, but the country you invade. British people never fought on polish lands and Poland still was a country through the whole war - occupied and divided, but still was a country. Also through whole history British people did not help Poland with "helpful" invasion as that is what probably video is trying to imply, but actually the only thing they did was to loan some money (a lot less that Poland needed) and then again if we count borrowing money as invasion - pretty much almost everybody could tell they invaded half of the world. On the other hand there were polish soldiers in Britain fighting in WW2 - which by standards of the book mentioned in video and by video itself means that Poland invaded Britain in WW2.

It's nice to see this comment section being friendly and having a laugh like the British do well. I think sometimes KZbin can be pretty hateful about these touchy topics. The British just were the main empire back then and sadly that's how empires go. Every empire in the history of humanity were evil and committed evilness. The British were just better at it, and in all fairness, did a lot more good than harm. That's not saying they were innocent but that's just how history plays out. You become powerful, invade countries, do some evilness, and return back to your usual self. Maybe there's a reason why villains tend to be played by the British or tend to have British accents in movies? 😂

13:05 In Brazil this naval blockade is part of so called Christie Question, named after the diplomat that conduct the crisis in the name of the British. In short words it basically goes like this: Slavery in Brazil wasn't fully abolished, just the human trafficking, but wasn't enact (The Eusébio de Queiroz Law, a law "to the englishmen see" that Brazil was doing something). in April 2, 1861, the merchant ship "Prince of Wales" sank in Brazil, near in today Uruguay, it was pillaged by some locals, and England demand compensation for the stolen goods, Pedro II the Emperor of Brazil denied (the guy from Civ), in June 17, 1862 another incident involving officers of the HMS Forte, they were drunk and involved in a "misunderstanding" with some locals and a sentinel, they were arrested Brazil wanted to put them under trial, which Britain promptly denied saying that subjects only can put on trial in their courts not foreign ones, and demand compensation again for this new incident, and blockaded the port until demands were to be met. This escalation was solved with the help of Leopold I King of the Belgiums, which gave cause for Brazil only the HMS Forte case. The compensation this time for Brazil wasn't paid and both countries cut relations until the Triple Alliance War (Paraguayan War)

I seem to recall reading about the British invasion of Iceland. As I recall the British ship sailed up to the dock, and a large crowd of Icelanders gathered to watch it arrive. After some deliberation on board, the British captain called down to the crowd to ask who was in charge, and if they could please move the crowd back a bit so that the British troops could disembark.

During the First World War, Serbia was invaded and conquered by Germany, Bulgaria and Austria-Hungary. Britain, as Serbia’s ally, sent troops to help them. They eventually managed to fight their way onto Serbian territory alongside the Serbo-French army, and drove out the occupying Central Powers forces. You can call that an ‘invasion’ technically, though to the Serbs themselves it was a liberation. So Britain never invaded Serbia.

Exactly, liberation and invasion are two different things. An Invasion is an aggressive military offensive carried out in order to conquer an opposing army or territory and is done for personal gain. Liberation is supporting the free will of the majority of people living under oppression and unjust rule and freeing them from that oppression, even if it means using military intervention.

Britain invaded the main powers of the Maratha Empire(ruling South, central and north india and Bangladesh with 160 million people) and the Sikh Empire (ruling Pakistan, indian punjab, indian harayana, kashmir and parts of Tibet) and all of their major vassal states including mysore, Hyderabad, travancore, Durrani and Lucknow. It took the British more than 50 years to capture them with most battles being lost. India started to collapse in the 1820s and lose against British invasion with the destruction of the Maratha capital Pune and it's palaces, temples, universities and riverfront. It was only then that many kingdoms started to fall. The Sikh Empire was the last to fall in the 1860s. India became an offical colony in the the late 1850s. Then the looting and destruction really began.
@nirupamakumar39176 жыл бұрын
However, from the 1750s to the 1820s, most of India was under the rule of the Maratha Empire which, due to the British interventions, wasn't able to completely unify India again. The only states which were independent were the kingdoms of Mysore, Hyderabad, Lucknow and later on the Sikh Empire with the Bengal Kingdom becoming a vassal state of the Marathas. The British did truly conquer the states of travancore, Mysore and Bengal and they replaced the government's with puppet figures. These puppets were used to conquer the greater Maratha Empire.

Sir Francis Drake was never a pirate, he was a privateer. He operated under a Letter of Marque from the Queen which means he was authorised by the crown to wage war on the enemies of the state.
