Well, I too received this news from CAMC and was totally underwhelmed by their generosity! We are now in our second year of membership, and during the first 12 months we stayed at one of their main campsites and found it to be utterly atrocious. For various reasons which I won’t go into here as we have a video about this coming out soon, we would never, ever go back to one of their main sites again at those prices. We keep our membership simply for the certified location Campsite as these tend to be good value and run by some really nice people. as you say, there are plenty of alternatives available and much cheaper too. The caravan and motorhome club really do need to take a serious look at how much they are charging and stop taking part in rip off Britain. Great video by the way, and looking forward to more, keep up the good work, cheers, Zoe, Xx.

The CAMC site video will come out after those and honestly, we won’t hold any punches. We were so disappointed for numerous reasons from the attitude of the staff, the facilities and the price. We both really appreciate what you do with your channel and helping all of us motorhome and campervan owners. I have been a member now for over 15 years and will renew for one more year to see if things change. However the current booking system and rules need to looked at. I recently made a booking for 4 nights only to discover that after I had paid my deposit that I needed to make an amendment which cost me £5 as they classed it as a cancellation. I did call to complain and had the charge cancelled. Then when on site for this trip, we heard from guests who were charged late booking fees for booking a day or so before arrival. This really is shocking behaviour and puts me off taking a late break. We recently completed a three week trip and stayed on 9 different sites, 4 were club sites 5 independent, and the independent sites were far busier than the club sites. If I had done the same trip 5 years ago, we would have struggled to stay at the club sites on the dates were wanted. This speaks for itself.

We have been members for the caravan and motorhome club for some years. We have never used any of their club sites as we just cant afford them. We do like the CLs and there are quite a few of these that are £12 per night or less. The CL owners are always really nice and welcoming, we have access to water and waste emptying. Some times there is even EHU. We do not expect loos and showers at this price level but our van has both. We have also got some good deals. through the club, on insurance and ferry crossings too although I do wonder if we could have got similar deals by a different route.

Our family of 6 have been priced out of motor homing since the beginning of Covid. The prices in the ‘big two’ so called clubs was beyond what we considered reasonable and for the same money we were able to buy all inclusive package holidays for our family. We even go off grid most of the time. Some CL’s even have a tap on your pitch if it is one that has marked out pitches and with being allowed to pipe grey water into the hedge you technically have a serviced pitch. With CL’s being a lot cheaper means more money in the bank for more trips. With cheaper rates you soon recoup your membership fee.

We've been in the club 21 years & find the club prices something we would not be prepared to pay & often find sites cheaper from other Apps. Just come back from a 13 night trip to Scotland & spent 10 nights off grid using our newly purchased solar panel & Inverter the money not paid out to C & MC has paid the cost of the inverter. Really the high prices are pushing a lot of people away from membership we use the club for CL sites only now. Another gripe for us really is not being given a fixed price, all we get is a 'from price' so sites can charge what they want, that is from the book.
@redsgotravels Жыл бұрын

Very interesting, we use a couple of sites over the year for main holidays, but in general use local privately owned sites for weekends. We have just renewed, not particularly for the main sites themselves, but other things like the CL sites which offer good value camping. We also have C&CC membership which is cheaper membership and they have the Out & About which is where you can find all the district association meets and THS which are normally around £15 and we do loads of these.

Didn’t renew our membership back in February so I didn’t know about these reductions. Presumably timed for new members joining at the NEC show who then make a bunch of 4+ night bookings and the Club get a bit of cash flow. We are still members of C&CC. Not very bothered about CSs or CLs (I just don’t want to stay on a farm all the time) but there is a certainty about using a site with clean facilities whereas independents can be a gamble. We do get an insurance discount for belonging to one of the big clubs (Motor Direct) so membership of one of them almost pays for itself anyway. C&CC have some midweek discounts and free wifi. I don’t really mind paying top dollar for sites like York and Broadway. Great locations, would cost £10 a day to park that near to those places. However, the same price for a site next to a motorway junction not so much.
@redsgotravels Жыл бұрын
Ah that’s so interesting that insurance requires a club to get a discount. Makes me suspicious of alsorts of underhanded kickbacks between them, when both could just discount anyway. Of course I hadn’t actually linked the NEC to the timing!
@RolandCargill Жыл бұрын
Not sure if I will renew or not the CAMC as their prices compared to same as last year are nearly doubled for a site we booked last year and looked at booking again this year, as they are a profit making club. Camping and camping club on the other hand are a non profit making club but yes there prices did go up but not as much as the other main club, they also offer the over 60’s a deal all year round which the other club offers nothing to the over 60’s.

I had an argument with an area manager whilst at Hill Head site a couple of years back, where the Bar on site was dearer than local pubs ( captive audience) he had no answer, then on Wi Fi I asked about the cost, he said ' do you know how much it costs to put WiFi on a site' when I pointed out members money was used and why should they pay twice he had no answer. I tackled him about how wardens were treated and paid and suggested they took advantage of people ( mainly retired) who loved doing the job, and had them constantly under threat of not having contracts renewed and again no answer. This organisation has lost its way, Graduates not Caravaners, money mad .

We like your presentation and analysis of the situation. Will probably renew because of the ease of use and discounts on ferry prices which exceeded that from the operators themselves. Plus the good service from the team in the office who for example contacted me in France to say DFDS would no longer honour my return when P&O had troubles so they not only rebooked me back, but also arranged the refund from P&O. Excellent work. Trips from Hull and Dieppe have saved us the fee for this year. However, we rarely use club sites, but CLs.

Just like an email I received from the 'club' during the summer. The big headlines only tell part of the story, makes them look good. 20% off selected sites, minimum of 3 nights Sun-Thurs booked at least 14 days before arrival! (No chance of being spontaneous) The selected sites are the ones they can't fill and have poor occupancy because they are in the middle of nowhere. May be ok for caravaners (like many things in the club) who can jump into their car and go where they please, but as a motorhomer stuck in the middle of a field for 3 or more days (possibly in the rain) has as much appeal as eating raw meat! Motorhomes are for touring, it's a different type of animal from a caravan. In 6 years of owning a motorhome I've only stayed on a site for 3 nights twice, only because I could easily walk into town or had public transport very close to the site. Like any business, they're trying to sell the stuff that they can't move

Caravan club member since the 70s - life members. Would I be a member if I wasn't life member? No, I wouldn't. The club is run by retired majors (or seems like it) for the benefit of caravanners - motorhome owners have only recently begun to get look in. Sites are much too pompous and formal, although that doesn't apply to the small ones like Totnes. Woe betide you if you park slightly adrift from the famous peg or, when we had a Rapido with a door "on the wrong side", your door is adjacent to your neighbour's door. We now rarely stay on a club site - and the camping club, whatever it is called now, offers better value without the pomposity. In the UK we make a lot of use of Britstops, When we first joined, caravanners then, there was a huge network of CLs. These were cheap, very informal, great fun, and owners liked us for the company. That has been whittled down to almost nothing. Owners have told us how much they hate interacting with the club - "it is quite obvious these people have never used a caravan in their lives - just managers". One we use a lot gave up when the club demanded (years ago) £30 pa "for insurance" - but I don't usually take that in a years, she said (Like I said, that was quite a while ago!) Bring back that great CL network, and it might become a useful club again. As for "we are here for our members..." yeah, right! Milch cows rather! Maybe my biggest beef about motorhoming in the UK is the lack of flexibility - off the cuff touring is impossible because you need to book a pitch, often months in advance, We NEVER have this problem abroad. The one time in Spain when we turned up during a holiday weekend and it was full, the owner said - "tuck in over there - there will be spaces tomorrow - no problem" We have just spent 6 weeks in Italy and France, and spent just 2 nights on a campsite, the rest was, mainly, one of the superb set of aires de camping car, or Italian sostas, which arguably are even better - most were free, some even had free electricity, and some cost up to €10 per night. In the spring it was Norway and Denmark. But the attraction is not just the price, or lack of, but rather not having the palaver of checking in, handing over passports, restricted office hours and, more importantly, close to the village or town and not miles away from anywhere. Occasionally we wild camped - and we have wild camped in every country in Europe where it is legal (most) and Turkey, with no problem. Previously we always used Camperstop, but this trip Park4night proved the most useful

My wife and I were Motorhome and Caravan Club members for 20 yrs. however, solely because of the high sites fees we have not renewed our membership this year. In our experience, M&CC site fees are now in the order of 50% more expensive than a comparable commercial site in the high season. In the past, MCC fees were comparable to a commercial site, but with better facilities, this is no longer the case. Camping & Caravan Club fees are also expensive high season, but you can get a good deal mid or low season on their sites.I recently stayed on a full facility CCC site for less than £15 per night!!

I recently made a booking for one week in April next year for the Cheddar site, and was astonished that it amounted to £190. Within days, I had an email from the Club saying they had reduced the prices and I should cancel my booking and rebook, which I did. The new booking was £157, so a £33 saving. But the CMC prices are too high. Several years ago, I would have had 5 or 6 club site bookings every year, but last year I had only 1. Next year will be the same. Our children live in Bristol and Brighton so we try and stay on those two sites. As for the former, forget it. People book months in advance to stake their claim and then cancel at the last minute. What CAMC should do is a non refundable deposit to stop this opportunist behavour. We now live in Southern France and have kept our membership for our anuual uk visit. I don't think we'll bother next year. Thanks for the videos by the way. Bob & Ann

We stayed at the Stockton-on-tees site in August weekend and there was 52 empty pitches and a holiday weekend which was hot & Sunny! We had to stay there as we were going to a venue in town and taking a taxi from further out would have been more expensive. Normally only use CL's or CS's in England. Loads of places in Scotland, either free or £10 per night.

Left both the caravan and motor home and caravan and camping club . The caravan and motor home charged us extra for electricity when we turned up we had to ask them what the rise was for, as we booked the pitches a year ago. They charge for a pitch plus one person other family members are extra £70 plus. Both had just became a rip off.

We have been members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club since 1976(47 years) and although it isn't as good as it once was we still believe that on balance it is worth being a member. For us the main benefit has always been that they offered the type of site that we wanted and in our opinion the standard of maintenance and cleanliness has been to a consistently high standard. That certainly hasn't always been the case with private sites but they have significantly improved over recent years. The other main reasons for being a member is that we always found their caravan insurance to be very competitively priced and provided a very effective service when needed. Yes prices have certainly gone up but a lot of people are still prepared to pay these prices. We were on their Chatsworth site last week and there were very few if any pitches available each night with Saturday night being completely full.
@redsgotravels Жыл бұрын
Wow, that’s amazing , I do think Chatsworth is a site people love due to its history and location, similar to Rowntree in York, prices are high due to supply and demand, the increase in independent sites will bring competition and prices fall, but Chatsworth is lovely, and after all that time in the club, I think you should be an honary member ❤️ thanks for sharing your experience, much appreciated, safe travels x

It was nice but nothing special even though it’s been upgraded and tbh we still paid a fair bit out of season. CMC sites are way overpriced, We will not stay anywhere that charges over £22 or £28 with EHU. Our two favourite discoveries this year were £11 and £13/night. To put it into a different perspective we are off to Spain via LeTunnel next week, the 3 day/4 night journey to the Costa Blanca will be on aires that are free to 10e and we have a month near Albir with good facilities block, on pitch fresh and wastewater, even has a small pool, its 12e + electric charged by the KwH. We then go down to Marbella, a larger site again a , large, pool and a cafe/bar 13e + electric and again only charged for what you use.

In the last 24 months we have stayed four days at a CCC and same with CMC . We just couldn’t afford weekends the costs are ridiculous. In 2019 a week in Keswick was £167 for a week. Same pitch same time of year (2023) was way over £300. Am not saying the sites are awful but I do know that they’re not as affordable as they should be. we are quite new to all this, halfway into our first year, now having done a variety of sites in UK and France (Camping Carparks and Aires are so good and much cheaper), we have already decided not to renew our CC&C membership, £25 to sit in a field with no facilities not near to anything, a poor app, and limited online booking, CS owners that are just too hard to get hold of to reserve.. too much hassle...having more fun doing brit-stops for short stays or independent site and cycling, then spend longer in Europe. I realise it all depends on your situation, if with children etc. then you want more on site facilities but pricey either way, when i looked at C&MC to try them for 1yr, I see many of their sites are shut after end October.. so further compromising a quick weekend away. Happy to learn from others of course if missing something...

@@redsgotravels Prices are definitely rising at an alarming rate all round not just the club's pitch prices. Personally I believe the CACC represents better vfm as we receive a discount for being over 60 and in general the staff at the sites are more friendly & helpful. Having said that we have encountered the same at some CAMC sites but not all, some staff can be quite bumptious and forthright if not officious? Those that are we avoid by not visiting again. Currently our membership has until December to run. We’ll not be renewing for next year. Prices are the issue here, I can’t see why they have to charge for a pitch and one person, then charge extra for a second person in the same unit.!!?? Do. They think that most of us are solo travellers or something? As you say, the sites are clean and well managed, but these discounts only apply to next year’s bookings IF you book before end of December this year. Most people don’t know where they might want to go next month, let alone plan for next year yet. I always thought that spontaneity was the theme amongst caravanners and motorhomers? Anyway. Personally I do not agree with charging per person. I am renting a piece of ground to park on and use some electricity. I understand that we will both use the shower etc, but if you must charge for that, then £5 or so seems a fair add on to the pitch price for a shower and visit to the WC. The headline prices look cheap, but when you add another person the price goes silly. Having had a first experience of Europe this year, the UK prices and lack of off season discount system seems a rip off.

Sorry to be late to the party but have only just found this video. We have been members of the club for many years and have seen the changes. I have spoken to many other members on site, and we all feel the same regard pricing with many saying they will not renew membership. I always thought that you join a club to get benefits ( discount ) we all pay to be in this club but get very few benefits. My main gripe is, as members who pay an annual fee, why are we fleeced on pitch fees in holiday times, when we don't get anything extra, its the same site, same facility's, its like if you join a social club, and as a member you pay say £1 a pint, but suddenly as it is a holiday you pay £2 a pint, its the same pint so Why has it gone up ? So many people have said they are leaving, and going to private sites that for the same price offer more, as will I.

Hi Howard ! It’s the hidden charges that really add to the cost of it all, don’t seem to be many benefits, I’m not surprised people are leaving in droves , nice to see more private campsites turning up ! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated 👍👌🙂

I thought these clubs were non profit making organisations. If so why do they, in general, appear to be more expensive than commercial sites? Members be aware that if you keep using them they will keep charging you. We have stopped camping in the uk as campsites in France and Spain are usually cheaper and the weather is better.

The Caravan Club has always been racketeers!.

No comment or any response from the club says it all, are they in denial of the issues that many members are bringing up?

Certainly a very topical vlog with a common theme running through ! Hopefully it may change to satisfy the majority, but I think it’s a long road … ❤️ thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂

Everyone you talk to says that CAMC sites are just to expensive. As it is a members club surely it should be run to the benefit of members not to provide vast profits.

It does seem to be a common complaint , but hopefully things may change ( sometime ! ) thanks for sharing your thoughts ❤️

Caravan and motor homes are working class holiday activities in most countries , except the UK.. because of RV prices and fuel and site fees it's becoming the preserve of the middle class..unless your handy and fit out a white van your self and head across the channel... Europe is far cheeper to holiday than the UK and the weather and food is better..the clubs have concluded that it's better to have less members paying higher sit fees than the other way around!!.❤️🇬🇧🇺🇦

NoPe, not renewing …. independent sites are better and cleaner, better entertainment, sometimes a little more quirky with honesty boxes and fresh eggs and home made cake and less rude wardens. Camc make you feel like a burden on them and as if you a pita. Independent sites welcome you and want you there and make more of an effort so you will come back. Camc sites couldn’t care less if you come back or not.

We do love the independent sites too , a lot more seem to be appearing in the uk ❤️

Optimum pricing policy. Increase your prices until orders drop off, then lower your prices and make it look like you're doing it to benefit others. Extremely cynical marketing.
