Fortunately it only happens in some parts... I'm going to get a new mic setup this week. Anyway, thanks for your submissions again and if you ever want to submit anything to this segment, head to the Discord server! Phantom 2010 was the show that got me into drumming and Infinity is the place i ended up marching. Pretty dope to see both in the same video!

That infinity show is still so much fun to watch, can't believe they only placed 9th with that

Great Phantom Regiment show, sadly only got 6th place.

Also little nugget of info - This was actually the last year of the Rennick tenure at Phantom. This show won drums, but you can realllyyy hear the similarities in the battery writing between this era of phantom and the current vanguard writing. The front ensemble IMO has evolved the most but I think that’s really due to the tech advances (most notably amplification) but you can definitely still notice some huge similarities between old phantom and current vanguard (especially with the front ensemble intro and the writing in the ballad)
@hunteralexander97913 жыл бұрын
Though controversial, I think that Rennick’s sound was better when he was with Phantom than it is with SCV. The bass tuning he uses with Vanguard just feels off to me
@dansullivanstudios3 жыл бұрын
@@hunteralexander9791 personally, I think Paul’s sound was better yes, but sandi’s sound definitely has gotten better at SCV but I think that’s more to the quality of amplification changing and what has been possible expanding so much in the last 6-7 year up front
@hunteralexander97913 жыл бұрын
@@dansullivanstudios that’s fair. I’m not the most well versed in front ensemble so I can’t truly speak on that in ways that others can
@dansullivanstudios3 жыл бұрын
@@hunteralexander9791 yeah I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m a simp for some rennick FE writing, but I think it’s just so noticeable because what’s happening up front has evolved so much in the activity in general

I SAW INFINITY LIVE!! it might’ve been that exact performance! we were in town for wgi scholastic concert percussion finals (we won :D) and we got to watch some of world class finals during downtime!!!

Man Adam I just have to say I've been listening to your original pieces on loop for the past few days, especially the christmas ones. I love The Studio too and I'm happy you got back to reacting to DCI, AND I was gonna suggest this exact show because I love the pit writing for this. I believe Phantom Regiment did win a Percussion award for this show in 2010. Thanks for being you, Adam Tan.

If you're looking for another great cymbal show, turn your attention towards North Coast Academy 2011 "Balance". NCA (who sadly folded in 2016) was one of the most innovative groups for cymbal playing. Their 2012 show "Lose Yourself" is also great.

I actually got to crash an infinity rehearsal in 2019 the night before finals with some friends because we knew some members there and the group I was with only made it to PIW semis! It was such a cool show and the people there have a great vibe

Fun fact about Phantom Regiment: During this year, they won best percussion despite coming in 6th place overall, and this was probably due to the writing and instruction of Paul and Sandy Rennick. This was actually the last year they were working for Phantom Regiment before moving on to Santa Clara Vanguard, whose marimba cams you've become intimately familiar with over the course of this video series!

all i got to say is atleast their sound equipment didn’t shut off during their finals performance. i loved atlanta quests show but when their sound equipment shut off at the end of their show i think they handled it very very well

Idk about thst guys comment saying better flexes than crown. Crown is pretty consistent.
@nocluewhatimdoing45433 жыл бұрын
I agree that Crown has been much more consistent years, but I meant that I think the flexes in this specific show are better than Crown's average. That opening hit and the matching hit in the closer are two of my top five brass moments of all time. (Along with the end of Harmonic Journey, Creep, and Elsa's Processional.)
