*CONTEXT* The device used to record this is called the phonautograph, an invention made by Léon Scott himself (The man singing in this audio). Despite inventing such a monumental thing, Scott was actually a bookseller in Paris. Scott got his inspiration from hearing about "auditory anatomy" in a physics textbook in 1853 and began to work on a device that could record sound. He finally got his invention finished in 1857 and received on the patent on the 25th March that year. By 1860 the final product was ready for use and he recorded himself singing "Au clair de le lune" which can be seen here. Unlike later devices used to record audio, this device wasn't meant to be played back and didn't really contain "sound". Scott intended for the device to be used to translate audio into text or alternatively into sheet music. The audio here is still an exact replica to what it would have sounded like, but technically the original can never be played. In 2008 they did this and this audio was finally heard for the first time in 148 years.

This was never actually recorded in a way that you would think of today. The vibrations were recorded on to a piece of paper and saved. However, he had no way of playing the audio back, this audio comes from later in history when the technology to replay this audio became available.

The reason it sounds so awful is that it's been left somewhere since 1860. It was too damaged to record so they transfed it to a digital format. All of that makes it sound awful. But still it's amazing we can't listen to the voice of a real 19th century man.

For me it's giving a lil bit of a chilling thought. I'm hearing a guy's distorted voice, as he is testing his invention in the 1860's... him sitting in his room from that age, where not only me but not even my great grandparents were alive... hearing a voice of someone that is long gone...

I hate the new dictionary they put new gen z words like, rizz, gyatt, sigma, and alot more, i hope fortnite fixes this error before i delete fortnite😡😡🤬🤯😡😠😠🤬. May these people rest in peace, amen😊.
