I've not made a ' sports' themed quilt...but did make a t-shirt quilt for my son-in-law. He had shirts from concerts (most of them), college (+college ski team), and his Pittsburgh sports teams. It turned out great! I had so many shirts to work with I could make it reversible. I did not for a grid...just cut them as large as I could, then formed vertical row, squeezing them in as I could. He absolutely LOVED it. Also, with fusing each shirt, it made it quite thick/heavy, I never used batting.

I used a very large triangle template to make a Diamondbacks fabric quilt for my grandson. I put Diamondbacks fabric and baseball fabric together to make diamonds. That was before they all started bowing during our anthem. No more sports for me! The small tree looks very sophisticated and I agree with using the dark red since to me, it continues with that.

Well, my dear, you need to be easy on yourself. I like to listen to you in your chat mode. It’s so friendly & nice! And a swatch club would be so useful as one cannot always tell what the fabric REALLY look& feels like.

Designed a water polo quilt using animal skin prints for the appliqued balls and a continuous line quilting pattern of a player in the water in front of the goal. My son loved it. It survived four years of college and 10 subsequent years with no damage.

Snake Plant? Up here we call it a Mother-in-law's tongue! LOLOL Thanks so much for all you do, Pat. You've kept me very busy this Covid season. I've done 8 quilts from you and your website with Cozy Things on my design wall as we speak. Love it, love it. A bit of a departure from the "normal" Sampler blocks I do, but I need a bit of a challenge and expand my horizons. I really want to do Gramma's Kitchen and will when the snow hits and I'm more confined to barracks! hahaha Please keep well and hugs from Canada!!

With your topics, you always make me think of my quilts in a new way! Yes, I've actually made three sports quilts. The very first was for a nephew using a fabric line and pattern designed for it called "Dino Sports" that had dinosaurs wearing sports uniforms and using sports equipment. Now that I think of it, I also made a charity quilt for Victoria Findlay Wolf's "Basics Quilt Gather" with the leftovers from that one! The next one I made was a fishing themed quilt for neighbors that went fishing every year and shared their catch with us. The last was a combination golf/baseball themed quilt for a friend's husband who is a fan of both. The "golf" front was pieced using Rochelle Martin's "Gone Golfing" quilt design and licensed fleece of his favorite baseball team was used for the backing!

I think the collective got to making a sports quilt was when I got my long warmer to do baseball bats, gloves and ball as the quilting pattern on the quilt I made for my son in law. I'm happy that my tree is sandwiched and ready to quilt. I just did the wall hanging size..

The only sports theme quilt that I ever made involved the Peanuts gang playing baseball, as only they can do! I had a layer cake of the characters and used the pattern "Illusions" by Jenny Doan. That way I didn't have to cut the prints down (the blocks were rectangular 5 x 10"). I made it for my daughter since we love Charlie Brown and she loves baseball.

Thanks Pat for your Monday night video. Always nice to see you for the extended time on Mondays. I have not made a sports quilt. Probably the type of sports quilt I would make right now would be a nautical type. My husband is a spear fisherman, meaning he scuba dives and shoots fish with a spear gun. Or he dives and picks up florida lobsters which are very different from what we usually think of lobster like up north with the claws. I've never seen spearfishing fabric so it would have to be a nautical quilt- I've seen that kind of fabric many times.

Yes I made my grandson a hockey theme quilt. He played stand up hockey until he was 12 and was diagnosed with Perthis disease and can’t play stand up sports of any kind due to this but he was introduced to Sledge Hockey and plays that and has been on Team Ontario now 3 times ( he is now 19) and has tried out for Team Canada twice. Unfortunately I couldn’t find fabric with sledge hockey so I just made him stand up hockey quilt and gifted it to him for his 16th birthday. He loves it

You have probably already discussed this in a more recent video. I am playing catching up. You are encouraging me to document my quilts. My inventory is not near the amount of quilts in your collection, yet it seems overwhelming. I would like to make a photo book of my quilting. I think I will start a spread sheet with photos and place my photos in a folder so they will be easier to find. I feel that I should be able to do some sorting by date, pattern maker or any other sorts I may think of later. Do you think you will do a spread sheet? Thank you so much for all you share and all those tips that encourage us to do a variety of things from organizing to make a quilt. ❤️
