Dan, your handbrake story will inspire millions or atleast it will for me because I'm after buying an Alfa 156 so now I'm definitely avoiding hills forever. Makes it funnier that this happened because this happened to my Dad aswell, in an Alfa Sud years ago. He went into a shop to buy a 99 on a steep hill, came out to an empty parking spot. He doesn't show any remorse to the car that stopped the escape. History is doomed to repeat itself to those who choose to ignore it, or else to those who still buy old Alfa's. Wouldn't change it tho.

I've done the exact same thing as Dan and I agree there is no way to leave the handbrake on and get out and bit realise, I put it down to not putting the handbrake on properly and when I've closed the door it's shook the Handbrake loose and the car started a slow roll when I walked away 🤦

My phone had died when I left and I was trying to find my way to the hotel on my own and a bloke came over to me saying I looked lost and wanted to help me get where I was going. Listening to the pod today on way home from work and Dan's story about his car smashing into the skip when he was gigging brought back memories of my own handbrake failure experience. So I'm working at Hewlett-Packard in Daresbury opposite the Brittannia hotel back in 2010. I started my shift at 7am and 5 minutes later the other lads come in, laughing their tits off about how it would be really bad if your car just had a mind of its own and wasn't where you left it. I'm like "what are you two divvies on about?" They go to me "yeh your car was in the middle of the car park when we got in and we just had to push it back into the parking space". I'm baffled, go down to the car park and good enough the handbrake is looser than a Runcorn lady of the night. Just won't stay on properly. Thankfully it was before everyone else was in the office and didn't smash it up, but had to get the bastard replaced the next day. I deffo put the handbrake on btw!! The car? Well it was a 56 Plate Alfa Romeo 156, hahaha! So yeh Dan, I feel your pain mate!

You’re gonna want to buy a track ready car, a E46 or something like a Mx5, I’d recommend a 182 Clio Sport Cup, front wheel drive, decent power, responsive steering. Another fun choice is a Cooper S, rapid little things, sturdy suspension, quick off the line and incredibly responsive
