man, I was the last group brought into the army that was taught how to shine the black boots, as the uniforms switched to the suede boots around 2004. I have to say it is such a rewarding skill.... albeit always best shared with others in a boot shine party. Anyways though, a fresh shine helps seal the material and gives you that extra edge in a suit. So many times I look at people in a fancy suit wearing scuffed up kicks. I mean if anything, they need to find a shop to bring them to, but they don't even do that.

This is the first time I’ve watched one of your videos and reading through these comments about people remembering their dad’s or themselves being taught how to shine boots and how they learned brought back memories I forgot I had. My dad was in the Marines in the late 80’s- early 90’s and growing up he would always shine our shoes whenever we wanted. I always thought it was the coolest thing and I would walk weirdly for a good week because I liked how my shoes looked and I would get excited when I got to see him do it again once the time came around. I didn’t have the best relationship with him as a kid and this video brought back one of the good memories I have with him when my childhood. So in short, Thankyou for bringing back those memories🌷

This is very, very cool. I've only seen shoe shines done on TV and movies, and it's very neat to see the process. Back when shoes were meant to last you more than a season and you'd get them shined and taken to a cobbler for repairs. That being said, I'm used to being the person who helps other people and having someone take the time, effort, and care required to do this quality of a job would make me feel so anxious! I would probably end up apologizing for the dust and saying "is there anything I can do to help you??"

Fascinating to watch! I never had my shoes shined, but when I was a boy, people still used to do it. The thing is, you need good shoes to begin with. Nowadays people will rather buy cheap new stuff than pay for good quality and care of it (or have it taken care of). You buy cheap, you buy twice. An old wisdom now lost.
@_IcyCube_4 жыл бұрын
I've had the same shoes for almost 2 years now, they are my primary pair that are used daily, and they've held up amazing. They are almost like brand new, and I could probably get another year or longer out of them, I only paid roughly $30 cad for them. I usually walk 5 to 6 kms in them daily, just to give you an idea.
