Let it be known that Hawa presented to BA a fully realized pitch for a segment called Hawa At Large, where she would make African dishes and talk to guests about African cuisines and cultures. Not only they rejected her pitch, they used a photo of her with the BA chefs for diversity points, shot three videos with her AND paid her only $400 for each video. She’s since sworn off of working with BA ever again, and we all missed out on her radiant screen presence and African recipes. Shame on you BA.

The BA test Kitchen workers should unionize. That’s the only form of collective action that’s valid if you wanna support your fellow (BIPOC) workers. Striking and not going on future videos is good activism but the end goal has to be a sustainable systematic change that ensures that future workers will always earn their dues regardless of their skin color etc, and that’s not achieved by getting a few workers better contracts or by replacing certain managers. I love hawa! Lahooh is a staple in Somali households. I have it at least 3-4 times per week.
@kateamarlow4 жыл бұрын
I'm so curious about the logistics of this. Does it mean you almost always have the batter fermenting on a counter somewhere? Also, any recommendations? I'm so excited to give this a try!!
@wondroussoul54144 жыл бұрын
Kate Marlow Always fermented, lahoh is always made the night before in every somali household unless its emergency then we use active dry yeast. It’s 7 in the morning where I live and I am about to make lahoh for my family, if it’s not fermented then it’s better not to make it at all bcuz it won’t turn out good but you can use the batter for the next day when it’s fermented. I hope that helped 🙂
@kateamarlow4 жыл бұрын
@@wondroussoul5414 it does!! Thank you for sharing!!! I hope your family enjoyed breakfast!!
@nothingButDreams14 жыл бұрын
@@kateamarlow I would also recommend trying the version without the spices/onion(the spiced version is a special occasion lahooh, in northern somali, as hawa mentioned) It would save you needing a blender! And normal butter is a good substitute for ghee so is a drizzle of sesame oil.
@Sossejeavel4 жыл бұрын
As a Somali I would say this is pretty good but the fermentation time is waaaaaaaay too short. Remember my mum beating the batter loudly by hand at night. AND then let it sit over night so we could have it for breakfast. BA+Somali cooking is my dream come true though.
