The historic Hawaiian resort of Lahaina is now "completely gone" after the devastating wildfires, according to those who've fled, while the island of Maui now resembles a warzone.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Fifty five people are already confirmed to have died, and that's expected to rise sharply when emergency teams begin searching through the remains of burnt out buildings.

There was only one road out and that got backed up. One man said, at 8am they were told the brush fires were contained. At 1pm he returned from work smelling smoke, and within 30-40 min the sky was black and everything started to become ablaze. The Governor has assured us that fire safety will be vehemently taken into account in the rebuild of Lahaina. Keep in mind the winds were 40-80mp constant gusts, insanely windy as if it were hurricane winds. I know, I live in Kihei. This pushed the fire all too easily with the dried-out wooden structures around. Lahaina should be rebuilt with underground electrical lines.

He’s right nobody is really talking about what happened. And the next day after the fires there was hardly any wind, so that lady was lying. God bless the people of Lahaina. My prayers are with you.!

This is in a town.... not out in the edge of a forest etc... and the before pics show everything is green, not dryed up.... and very little of this area is green grass and trees, almost all black top and homes. And the poor people have no idea that the FEDs arent gonna help them. It will only come from locals and independent people who want to help. Billions sent overseas for WAR though....that shows you what their motives are...it is right in front of you people. When you see everything burned up and trees still standing, you KNOW!

In the 2010s, 96% of Hawaii's electricity was generated by imported coal and oil and the electric company had political clout to prevent harnessing the tropical sun, Trade winds, tidal and geothermal resources available. Looking at their site now, they at least pay lip service but obviously still want a return on their initial investment. That company should have at least partial responsibility for this and, preferably, have a knock-on effect so that those who profit from wrecking the climate, pay to fix it.

sorry, u r general and very wrong I live in Puna Hawaii and we are exactly 500 square miles in size. and we use solar power to go with our PGV system Puna Geothermal Ventures we get out electricity from holes in the ground where ground water is volcanicly heated thus making steam that turns surface turbines to make FREE electricity for hundreds of thousands of years straight. The ground water always refills and this volcano has been subsurface active for 400,000+ yrs straight... aloha

If 96% of energy was imported, then people used it. Without demand there is no supply-and do you want to go back to burning wood from trees for heat and cooking? Back to the 17th century to rely on the weather for energy? Then your society will fade away. We can only now start to take advantage of wind, solar, etc to a better degree….but it’s still a way off.

"1.2 degs higher had we not been burning fosiile fuels" ?...not true. The atmosphere only contains 0.04% (440ppm) of CO2 and of this amount man has only contributed towards 3% of it. As can be seen from these officially accepted figures that mans contribution is insignificant. There is also contention regarding the genuine average temperature rise since global warming started around 1880. Here it was stated to be 1.2 degs. But off the record, since counter global warming arguments are not permitted in the main media outlets, so scientists will state the average rise is only 0.5 degs. If the rise was 1.2 degs snd mans contribution to CO2 is 3% then man can only be responsible for 3% of this rise in temperatures. Hence man can only be blamed for a 0.039 degs rise in global temperatures. From all this so you can understand why global warming debate is not permitted for to do so would expose the man made global warming issue as a hoax, and that is what it is, a hoax.

These drought conditions have always existed in multiple rain-shadow locations in Maui including Lahaina (which bills itself as the sunniest city on Maui ). High winds are also completely normal for Maui. I first visited in 1980, and nothing has changed with the weather and precipitation patterns. The problem in this case is the greedy negligent politicians and utilities who continue to allow (even new) power lines to be strung on non-wind resistive wooden poles (in a hurricane zone) instead of burying the lines or at least using steel poles. The buildings which seem to have survived the flames are modern fire-resistive structures... and as they rebuild the homes and businesses hopefully modern materials can also be incorporated...

We, humans (especially in the global north), need to change our ways - this is a climate emergency and it's only going to get worse...

True Christians know that this fire is the work of the Lord. The people of Maui and Lahaina better quickly figure out what they've done to so anger our Perfect Heavenly Father, that He sent this hellish blaze to punish the sinners. This is straight out of the Most Holy Bible, the perfect wrath of God is on display. His judgment is fierce and perfect, so this is just the beginning if these sinners don't get right with His Almighty Will. Praise! Glory! Amen.

I think Trump should go to Lahaina on his campaign and tell the people there that climate change is a hoax

Nah not worth the time of day considering it's a vote blue no matter who enclave. They love being the most expensive state to live in from house prices, fuel, taxes etc. Want more proof, they voted for Lazy Hirono, the dumbest Senator in the nation, but marginally ahead of Brandon. If Trump went there, he would be talking about being energy independent, the first President to achieve that accolade in 75 years. They hate low prices, but lucky the homeless people of CA cannot go there by foot for obvious reasons. Furthermore, only a dunce like you would mention 45 as the TDS is strong in you. Please tell me how this is Trump's fault lol? Why is FJB wanting a further $26 billion to go to Ukraine, but not a dime being put there right now? Why has he not even visited the main island to show support... Guess he is eating oatmeal at Rehoboth Beach. But it's a blue state packed with some of his 81 million fans and not East Palestine. Bet if it were 45, he would have already touched down.

You really think climate change caused the fire, as opposed to wind, electrical lines, and humans? Fires prior to the 20th century destroyed significantly more land mass than now…was that Trump’s fault too? Silly comment.
