I think the sudden cut at the end of Dream Sweet in Sea Major is very intentional as being the end of the story & it makes it kinda lose its impact with random catchy 9/11 song as an epilogue

This is a good interpretation. Even though mine is different. (Examples include but are not limited to: Simon has schizophrenia. His Schizophrenia was caused by the trauma he experienced during 9/11 {he was in the streets when the twin towers fell}. His original home is New York instead of California. He killed his girlfriend during a schizophrenic episode. No happy ending :( {Simon is trapped in purgatory, the realm inbetween heaven and hell, while his girlfriend is in heaven.})

I agree with most of this but I would put variations on a cloud at the beginning. This video suggests that it's about Simon and Stella reuniting in heaven but it'a actually about 9/11, which is confirmed by the music video. The line "a little bit of magic to end the world" refers to the attacks as magic. Probably because of how inconceivable they were. In isle unto thyself there's the lines "I was a victim of magic Apollo catching my breath as I bled on the ground Somebody called me to follow I followed thinking aloud" The melody of this section is taken from a part in voac making it obvious that they're connected. Simon was in one of the towers when they were hit. (I was a victim of magic) He was stuck under rubble, bleeding and probably thought he was going to die but he was saved and saw the sun for the first time in what felt like forever. (Apollo catching my breath as I bled in the ground) Thinking it's a miracle that he gets to see the sun again is probably why he refers to it as Apollo and not just the sun. The trauma causes him to impulsively get as far away from new york as possible. (somebody called me to follow I followed, thinking aloud) And that's how he ends up in Hawaii. Dream sweet in sea major not having a conclusive ending could mean that whether Simon makes it back to the mainland or not is open ended I think the actual ending is candle on the water. Cotw is only on the miracle musical youtube channel and it's about Stella's spirit guiding Simon when he gets lost in the ocean.
