hi, Honolulu is properly pronounced as: hoe (like the garden tool) - know- lou - lou. One cannot say all the time 'Hawaiian' food, as the foods you ate at Rainbow Drive In are what we call 'local food' (not Hawaiian food --- unless you really eat authentic Hawaiian foods such as poke (po - kay), lau lau, kalua pig, haupia, etc). In the Hawaiian language, the pronunciation of the vowels are very important, but of course unless you have heard the proper pronunciation, you wouldn't know ... Also in Hawaii, if you come across the dessert, Shave Ice --- remember here in Hawaii, we do *not* pronounce it or write it in the past tense, so NO 'd' at the end of the word. On the Big Island, the local people there write it and pronounce it as 'ice shave;.

imo, you need to get the 'mixed plate with gravy all over' at Rainbow's..... what you ordered was very basic.... the shoyu chicken there is good too... at Rainbow's, you'll see college kids, golfers from the nation's busiest course right across the street, business people in ties, surfers, and of course tourists... it is food for everybody... 'foodie' food is not going to be at a 'plate lunch' place....
