Thanks for the well done video. What is the name of the lava tube you suggest near Hilo? I couldn't quite make it out. Appreciate the pro tips!
@scottsdaletravelchick2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy. Thanks for watching and appreciate the nice feedback. The other lava tube(s) are called Kaumana Caves. It’s a small state park and it’s one tube but you can go in two directions, and for a long way. Definitely bring a light other than your phone. We like the left side the best and less people go that side for some unknown reason.

This is the best video we've found for visiting the park. I assume this whole area is within the park and the entrance fee covered all the sites you went to? We are staying just 5 minutes away on the other side and was wondering if it's possible to take our son back for a break then return later to see the lava flow. If we return after 7 and the park is closed, can we still drive in or the gates will be closed to vehicles? Thanks so much.
@scottsdaletravelchick2 жыл бұрын
Hi there Trauden Thank you for the nice comment on our video. Everything in the video is inside the park boundaries. You should be able to come/go as you please any time. Park is open 24hr per day - entrance and other area are just not manned w park service people beyond certain times

Being a resident for over 40 years I was shocked to find a $30 entry fee (good for 7 days) per car 24/7.. They used to wave the fee before 7am and after 5pm. Not any more.. There is a $55 one year pass, your average local likely won't want to pay that much. I suspect the park gets lots of people tuning around at the gate..
@scottsdaletravelchick2 жыл бұрын
It seems like there are a lot of national parks that are charging for entry now. Hope people continue to go to the US Park. Good information thanks for watching 🙏

I'm a Native Hawaiian local girl who lives in HOVE. I usually visit around 8-9pm at night and nobody's there to check us in so, we just roll on through but if we go earlier then we show our Hawaii State ID's and we enter for free. Never had a problem before visiting tutu Pele. 🤷♀️🤙

@@scottsdaletravelchick thanks for posting, I can’t wait to go this September. Is it possible to get any closer to the lava? The views were phenomenal but I’ve got a life long dream of getting far more up close and personal with the flows regardless of how far I need to hike.

The $80 National park pass allows you unlimited entries into all National parks and that to me is an amazing deal. The fee charged helps with the maintenance of NPs
