Keoni Thiim’s passion to play and compete is very respectable and understandable, but let’s be honest. Those Hawaii squads are absolutely stacked with international talent. He just can’t compete with some of those pin hitters. His heart is amazing and very very exciting to watch. BYU gave him a chance to play all around and he took it. Gotta respect it.
@bradycastillo39175 күн бұрын
He put up 21 kills and multiple aces/blocks and took BYU to 5 set extras the night before against one of “those Hawaii squads” that’s the definition of competing with them. Bye with this kinda comment.
@hankakah41805 күн бұрын
When he was playing for UH, he wasn't effective against the taller blockers. Just like he was being blocked here, he had some good swings, but that's all BYU has this year. Block Keoni, the team became more predictable. UH has some height this year among all the younger players and we didn't even see 6'10" freshman Coach Wade's son. At 1:59:28 you can see how tall this year's team is, 9 freshmen on the team, and compare the other players to 6'11" Rosenthal.
@aina_adventurer4 күн бұрын
@bradycastillo3917 definitely competed with them but he couldn't win against them. That's the key difference and the reason why I am happy he is thriving at BYU now. Best of luck to him. @@rainman11 These announcers were not bad at all. Yes, they were a little biased. But that's to be expected. However, overall, they were actually pretty fair in their announcing and were very knowledgeable about UH. They knew their stuff and they called the challenges correctly no matter which side it was going to be rewarded to.
@rainman116 күн бұрын
@ knowledgeable about Hawaii? Last game one of the announcers thought BYU had the largest crowd attendance until they found out Hawaii averages 7,000+! Also they made a stupid joke when the sideline reporter said one of the ppl in the crowd said something racist. Not to mention this game on the very first challenge the ball clearly goes off the BYU player but they say it hit the tape first. They kept saying Louie’s last name wrong, etc. I could go on and on about the bias and dumb shit they said, those announcers were horrible! Kanoa Leahey and Chris McLauglin are way more professional than those two clowns.
@japanaloha6 күн бұрын
@@rainman11 First of all, we do not average 7000 fans. Haven't ever for the men's side. We only just cracked past 5000 two years ago. So, it is understandable because BYU was #1 until the last few years. Saying Sakanoko's (Sakanuko, could just be a letter misprint) name incorrectly doesn't have any basis on anything. Unfortunately, nobody went to correct them so how would they know it was 'wrong'. As far as the 'stupid joke', they announcer said something along the lines of 'he made some derogatory remarks about surfing'. But the sentence right before that he also joked about the fan saying that he is now in timeout. Was the joke inappropriate, sure it was. The other announcer immediately went to cover up what was said and tried to smother the comment which is the professional thing to do at that time. The first challenge, from the first angle they showed at full speed, you can just barely see the clip. But, very easy to miss. Once they showed that first slow-mo replay, one announcer immediately said that it looks like it was touched. You have to remember, they are looking at real time from a different angle until that first slow-mo. This is a BYUtv broadcast to the BYU fan base. There will be bias. Our announcers also have their biases but we don't see it as much cause its directed away from us. The announcers talked positively about both sides and were fairly even throughout the match. They are much better than the ESPN announcers that are usually pulled in for tournament time.

I'm surprised by the talent on BYU's team. It seems their best player was the player who transferred to BYU from UH, Keoni Thimm on the first night with 20 kills. It's either UH's team, even though many freshmen on the team, is young but give them a season to learn and grow, they could be very, very good at the end of the season. The Big West is undoubtedly the best conference in the nation. With Long Beach St, UCI, and UH in the top 5, and only one will go to the Final Championship, it really shows how nerfed the National Championship Tournament is. There should be all League Champions, and the 2nd place team going to the finals, a 16 team playoff system. Stop playing politics, and put the best 16 teams in the tournament!

@@locomojoboy2 From 1:16:47 when UH was down 10 points, and BYU at 24. They play the jaws theme, and the fans stand, remember how Chris McLachlin and Kanoa Leahey wants the UH fans to stand up on every set for final point? Whereas the UH fans always stood up only on the final point of the match for Aloha ball? This is an example of the fans NOT affecting the outcome of the game, like Chris wants, and people looking silly for assuming they will win. Chris's comment that the all the other fans across the nation does it, it doesn't mean UH should, it's not the reason UH fans were standing for final point, they would stand to acknowledge good play and a good game, good performance on both sides.

A few good things about games at BYU is their high-def CRS. Hawaii’s CRS cameras are so pathetic it’s embarrassing, especially since they could easily crowdfund the damn thing with the amount of fans from the community. The other nice thing is the interviews they do with the coaches after the second set. They don’t do anything like that at Hawaii. Does this BYU commentator not know the difference between the sound an “O” makes verses the sound a “U” makes? Because he’s nonstop kept saying Sakanuko instead of Sakanoko. He needs to do his homework if he’s going to be announcing names. Does anyone know the actual reason why Thiim chose to go to BYU? I get it if he wanted to be a starter, but he could have done that at CSUN or UCSD. Why’d he have to go play for the enemy? This was another good game. BYU did really good considering they used up all their timeouts in the 4th set fairly early. Titriyski was really good, but buddy got caught sleeping. Reminds me of when Hinata got hit in the face because he was daydreaming. Thanks for uploading.
