I’ve seen an uptick in homelessness. From Kakaako to Kapolei, I see a lot of non-local faces. The city Council brought up a bill before about returning homeless back to their state of origin. It’s one thing to take care of local people who legitimately lost their homes and then it’s another thing to take care of folks who are just transient and drug users from other states.

Guess what? Homelessness will never be solved...ever. If you think these agencies are here to "solve" it you are missing the idea. Ending homelessness would be agency Hara Kiri. If homelessness went away, these agencies would have no function. The agencies and non profits for things such as homelessness is to spend as much of their government funding as possible in order to grown and justify their requests for mor funding from taxpayers. This is why you hear about year end spending where if an agency doesn't spend unspent funding by a certain date, they will have the money taken away and it hurts their argument to get more taxpayer funds. It is in their interest to keep the problem around and even increase the problem to get more funding which a good chunk will be siphoned off to pay bonuses, wage increases, hiring for more do nothing postions etc. Yet we still vote for this.

My foreigner owned apartment complex Studio apartment = $1700 a month Who in their right mind is letting this happen ? Well when everything cost double to triple the price it was just 4 years ago that is one of the reasons more people are homeless. The price of materials goes up so does the housing cost and some cant afford it.

Hawaiians should not be homeless in Hawaii. This is THEIR aina! In Samoa, foreigners, including US citizens cannot purchase property there and that’s why we have zero homeless. There should be laws that give advantages and favor Hawaiians when it comes to home ownership. This is so sad…make housing!!! Bring in some plantation style towns and villages. Build Apartments that are low cost like Red Hill style. Have all military live on base they can build their own housing. Reduce air bnb to luxury beach front properties only. Tourist should stay in hotels. Subsidize if needed rent for Kupunas. Get rid of the current Politicians only spend money on “reports” and “permits”. Our elected representatives need to be replaced with those who will actually DO something. Bishop estate needs to step up and open land and build housing with their billions$. The time is now. Where’s all the Maui money? Build already. Accelerate the permit process in Lahaina for its residents. The “green” agenda increased rates. Be environmentally sensitive yes, but not to the extent that it puts our people in poverty! We have limited land and resources use it wisely and work with the big landowners. We better not be supporting illegal boarder crossers with any of our resources before our people.
