Biggest mistake they made.

Fascinating seeing the old fashioned midfield duels, Leigh Matthews gets Hawthorn's first goal, Barry Cable gets North's. Before taggers were invented, they just genuinely played against each other and whoever got the most possessions won.

This is the Grand Final that the Hawthorn players knew they couldn't lose - because they were playing for their off-field captain, Peter Crimmins. The backstory is told magnificently by Dan Eddy in his outstanding book, "Crimmo".

Interesting how Moncrief was nearly at 100 goals and just took it in his stride that he fell short. Different to how it played out with Buddy...

The commentary is out of sync with the game. This is from the DVD, not the VHS which IS in sync.

Why did they decide to kick to the punt Road end when in 1974 they did and lost when in 1975 they kicked to the city end and won.

Channel 7's "experiment" with what looks like 'long distance' lenses on their cameras didn't last long - thankfully.

It was a different era, but Lethal was a guy you definitely didn't want mess with. It was only once he started losing pace that the real thuggery in his play became evident, eg. Melbourne's Johnson and of course Geelong's Bruns.
