Attempt number two at bringing back to life this old international hay baler that belonged to my wife's grandfather. This attachment has not operated in at least twenty years so trying to get it to work has been a very cool project that has really got me motivated to keep the attempt to eventually become a farmer and a rancher alive. I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it.

Good job with the rehab of your bailer. The advice I can give is be super aware of where you place your hands etc. I live in North Missouri where haying is a big deal and I know two different farmers that had severe injuries from working on bailers in the field. Not trying to cause fear but it’s definitely a machine that deserves some respect. I’ve cut down hay and raked a bunch but never run a bailer. I worked on hay crews when I was in high school. Good money for a high school kid but you worked your ass off throwing hay. Enjoy your channel James. You’d fit right in around here. I forgot to add I learnt to run twine and the tying gears on a 1936 McCormick Deering grain binder. Now that’s a machine you’d love. 😀

Ya, I already have a healthy respect for this machine. I'm hoping to be able to put it to good work here pretty soon. And once we have a system down, teach my Son how to do it, and hopefully, he can use it to make some money.

In my younger years. I used to know how to work on those and set the twine to be tied.

Nice work, you’ve got the old bones responding now it just needs a little physical therapy in the sun. It’s amazing how much you do remember and how you figure out how everything fits back together. Your Son has a good eye to select the correct hardware, you could say the Nut hasn’t fallen far from the Bolt, if you get my drift. 😁👍👍👍

Man I used to have an old International 440 wire baler. It kinda worked until it didn't. Sure seemed like it made a much better bale than the new Holland and john Deere balers.

Ask your son if he knows where the cordless light is? When I was his age I was always borrowing my father's tools and flashlights. Just a thought.
