The contractor I worked for added a blower driven by v-belt from the flywheel (cover removed for the purpose) and the air was directed at the knotters to keep them clear of chaff - worked a treat

I don,t know if they are still in business , but years ago a company called Papst used to make a range of high velocity 12 volt fans for such applications , you might have to add a bit of tin ducting to blast the air flow right where you want it , but it,s safer than rigging up exposed belt drives , good idea as that is . Please wire these through a top quality fuse if you do this , fuses stop fires .
