This is one of my best favourite Haydn string quartet of all-time,and still reminds me of spring, and well performed by The Amadeus Quartet.

The tempo of the first movement seems to me the proper one; Some famous quartets take it too fast, in my modest opinion. Needless to say, the following movements are excellent too.

I know I'm quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online?

Why so much finger pressure on the strings?

Hmm.. very technical question. You'd need a skilled violinist to even take a guess at an answer. How do you detect this style of playing in the sound of the individual notes?
I can't hear any . Bow accentuating-yes.Some wide vibrato on the slower side..But this is not what is important when listening to the Amadeus quartet. Let's learn from them the masterfully shaped architecture of the themes and the musical form, together with the deep understanding of Haydn's language.

Vibrato 😂

Haydn is a strange composer. You can hear there is something in there you just can't put your finger on.

"Haydn?" "Strange?" I will take a Haydn String Quartet over a Mozart one any day as I can hear how well he put everything together into a cohesive form. Mozart is, frequently (for me), too facile.

Thomas Borgsmidt Brilliant and perceptive comment. Haydn is an ‘A’ list composer; your comment is in fact a definition of genius, part of which is being ‘...strange’, and with ‘...something in there you just can’t put your finger on’.

Totally agree and always enjoyable to play the quartets! Did Beethoven manage to put his finger on it perhaps?! Is it Haydn's wit? Better that the finger remains off so that one can play them differently every time.
