Friedrich Hayeks lecture on Evolution & Spontaneous order at the 1983 - 33rd Meeting of Nobel Laureates at Lindau.
We know that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is accepted by natural scientists. It describes how biological systems spontaneously evolve by the mechanism of natural selection. But is a similar spontaneous evolution taking place in areas of social construction and cultural behaviour? Friedrich von Hayek argues that this is the case. He underlines the complexity of the social systems and gives an historic overview reaching all the way back to Aristotle. As well as comparing and contrasting the mechanisms of natural and social evolution, and outlining the role of social evolution in the development and maintenance of civilisation.

There is no figure who had more of an influence on the intellectuals behind the Iron Curtain than Friedrich Hayek. His books were translated and published by the underground and black market editions, read widely, and undoubtedly influenced the climate of opinion that ultimately brought about the collapse of the Soviet Union

Hayek (if you get listen carefully though his thick Viennese accent) is one of the great teachers and explicators of the power and advantage to free markets and private property and the dangers of centralized governments. If you wanna read three great thinkers on these subjects read: John Locke, Adam Smith and Hayek.

Don't be a fool, listen to the wisdom of Hayek. Private property is the only way to freedom.

to the desciption of vid - no it does not - although I'm a large fan of Frederick Von Hayek his logic seems to be flawed in this case. sentient beings are using thier intelligence (at times misguided though it may be) to allow a free trade to function. it is not out of a random unguided process but guided one by many intelligent Minds

Do you think the primitive people meet to decide if they don't want to live anymore in a tribal system in which the goods and the family are generally commonly owned? Do you think they thought "Ohh, see this, if we start to descentralize property and family, to enforce contracts by inflexible rules, I think our society will be better. So, let's make it!" If even today people discuss if the free-market system is better than other ways to organize society, do you think the end of the tribal system to (what Hayek generally call) the Great Society was based in insight? Really? I think it's very unrealistic to think that the people changed their practices based in intellectual insight, i.e, in the previous perception that a market order would be better than their previous system.

Yes, he made some goods points. And we agree in principle on “capitalism” over “ socialism”. But beyond that he spoke much nonsense and was full of wishful thinking: you have to adjust reality to my theory “ of the market”. Just think of a local markets of agricultural products for example. Soon there will be an evolution to organize and “ regulate” this market!! Order and regulation is the outcome of his so called “ spontaneous order”. He was and is overrated for ideological reasons. He was not that genius. But a very good economist though. The best is book on capital theory. Pure theory and then on head of his time. His “ Social philosophy “ is by far too radical and lacks common sense. Hayekian politics is the seed to radical left nonsense harvest. See reality now. His ideology should be buried as soon as possible.

His book Road To Serfdom is great - because in a way what is Europe all about today - economically and power structure wise. However FA Hayek, like most his peers, remained ignorant or less caring about, overshoot and collapse. That infinite growth, whichever way, is not possible, never to happen, on a finite planet. FA Hayek still believed in economics, which till date remains divorced from the ecosystem and the planet in general.

Read Julian Simon's book the Ultimate Resource 2, he uses Economics to show that resources are not finite or in danger of running out. The price mechanism rations resources by cost and the ultimate human resource is innovation of which there is an infinite supply. The book is free online at his website, or can be found on Amazon.

"infinite growth" is the misleading wording for 'permanent advance' which obviously possible. The contemporaries inherited the same Earth the primitives or the antiques had yet not the same civilisation.
