I think it's beautiful how this song gives off such a different feel from the original, which is something beautiful to see in a cover. In Joni's version it was the song of an experienced woman looking back, there was no lie or cover left in it. And yet in this one, it's presented as a sweet song showing a younger, less experienced woman just trying to find her way though, but even behind all the confusion there's a clarity and reflection present, even if it's something that she keeps hidden from everyone else.

not certain i understand. joni composed this song at the age of 26. is that an "experienced" woman, looking back? haley is singing it at the age of 18. when i was 18, i embraced this song and its meaning. i have loved it ever since. age is not the issue here. it's an understanding of the song at its most basic level.
