Thanks. You are quite gracious. As it happens I'm a US Army trauma surgeon soon to retire as a Colonel. Seven deployments in as many years has been enough. With the kids all in college, my wife, also a physician and British subject, and I are planning our next adventure. NZ is top on the list along with GB. The problem with GB is that none of our credentials are recognised. NZ and Australia make the move quite easy. We both want to teach. We've had warm welcomes from several universities.

For those who say that the Queen did not express any emotion during the anthem - I think you need to look at her eyes, there was emotion there. New Zealanders stand proud because our people went off to war to defend freedom and peace. We have tried hard to right the wrongs of colonialism and work hard in the world to resolve conflict. We stood strong against nuclear testing in the Pacific. The older I get the more it means to me to hold on to tradition. That includes the queen & our pride.

Forty-two percent of men of military age served in the NZEF. 16,697 New Zealanders were killed and 41,317 were wounded during the war - a 58 percent casualty rate. Approximately a further thousand men died within five years of the war's end, as a result of injuries sustained, and 507 died whilst training in New Zealand between 1914 and 1918. New Zealand had the highest casualty and death rate per capita of any country involved in the war.

Yes. I knew a South African surgeon in Australia. He actually worked with Christaan Barnard. He was having difficulties having his credentials recognised in Australia. I suggested he move to New Zealand and work there. Once he had worked in New Zealand, and had his credentials amended/enhanced, he could then move back to Australia, as New Zealand practicing surgeons can work in Australia and vice versa. I am sure the same applies to GB. (more)

More than that, New Zealand is a Dominion. Like Canada, and Australia (for now), the Queen is the Queen of New Zealand, the Head of State, represented locally by a Governor-General.

Totally agree, the Queen does not show any emotion during anthems, it's just the done thing, not any disrespect at all... Queen Elizabeth the 2nd has been on the throne over 60 years and heard many anthems, giver her a break chaps... please... God Bless You Maam...

Beautiful version of the British National Anthem. I believe New Zealand lost a higher % of it's population than any other country in the British Empire during WW2. What can I say? Thank you - my dad was in Bomber Command and met many Kiwis. I am a member of the C of E Mother's Union and the first overseas branch was in New Zealand - evidence that many of the earliest settlers were farming stock from the south of England. As for the man who said the British Army traditions were "stuck up and dead" compared with the Haka .... total disregard of different cultures, which isn't helpful. We must strive to respect other's cultures as far as possible, not be in competition as in those days of empire.

I believe Britain lost about 0.91%, NZ about 0.72%, Australia 0.52%, Canada about 0.12% . but yes probably the most of Commonwealth nations. Britain losses also included civilian deaths where as NZ's were totally military.
@JepJep9214 жыл бұрын
@c00per69 It's God Save Our Gracious Queen at the start, the it goes to God Save the Queen. So depending on where Canadians sing God Save our Queen it could be wrong out right aha, but in New Zealand God Save the Queen is also the national anthem (but not sung often)
@briannorton47847 жыл бұрын
Roel den Oudsten god save the queen was Canada's national anthem in my young days. O Canada is now. Bev. N.

That wasn't New Zealand. That was London. 'God Save the Queen' is one of TWO official anthems of New Zealand. Elizabeth II is the Queen of New Zealand. Therefore, Hayley, a good Kiwi girl, was singing BOTH of the national anthems of HER country and in front of HER Queen.

One of the best things to come out of NZ is their national anthem & yeah what do you expect the Queen to do during a national anthem a bloody handstand and a jig? Seriously what does anybody do during a national anthem? Thats right, stand their and soak it in

i have no clue but now that i listen to it again, it actually sounds like theyre using it as an anthem lol

I may be wrong here, but at 3:07 I think that it should be ah-toh-rah, not ah-too-rah. And at 3:31, I think that it should be ko-teh-pai, not ko-tee-pai. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't sung the national anthem in ages and she's been doing it for a long time.

"My Country, 'Tis of Thee," also known as "America," is an American patriotic song. The melody is DERIVED from the British national anthem, "God Save the Queen" -- the world's oldest national anthem written in 1745!!! GSTQ is also ONE of TWO official anthems of NZ.
@raffyos14 жыл бұрын
Very impressive! the last part I mean, is it a war chant or something?
@queny216 жыл бұрын
It's called the Haka. It's a traditional Maori challenge to battle. It may be used to commemorate heroic action, especially actions in which the Haka was a prelude, as certainly occurred in North Africa in WW2. The All Blacks are so good at performing it now they are considering dropping the Rugby:)
@mkm57616 жыл бұрын
What does the part by the Maori (I guess?) at the end mean/translate to? Sorry for being ignorant. I just don't really know a lot about NZ culture and am curious.
