That’s nothing unique to this villain, most people these two included feel that way about Arlong, crocodile, enel, woppol, etc… Most of them are very cruel and not difficult to hate. Being cruel to robin isn’t really worse than what arlong did to nami or woppol to chopper, just saying that’s not what makes enies lobby unique.

Honestly I was just annoyed at the writing at this point. Why not just like up a bunch of puppies for him to kick while you're at it. Sure, shallow villains aren't exactly uncommon in One Piece, but this bit goes on for sooo long.

@@Renoistic That's the mature approach, but you just kinda have to embrace it i think. It's the most emotional moment in the show up to that point, so Oda really leans into it. The government is mega evil and luffy is willing to take on the world for his nakama

Spandam is a pathetic mook who would be nothing without CP9 power and the WGs influence. If it weren't for her sea-prism handcuffs, Robin woul've folded him like a towel at this point.

I think the reason spandam got triggered at that moment was because Robin did not respect him by asking "Why were YOU given the authority for buster call?" as opposed to Aokiji. He wanted her to fear him and show compliance to him.

I'm a big advocate for Water 7 and Enis Lobby being one arc, because an arc consist of a beginning middle and an End. Water 7 doesn't have a proper conclusion and Enis Lobby doesn't have a proper start, they are one big arc that spans over two Islands.

It is one arc. There's no reason to say just because most arcs take place at one location, we can't have one that visits multiple. East Blue is considered to be one arc but spends time in multiple locations. Everything from entering the Grand Line through Alabasta is technically one arc as well, likewise Jaya(technically finding the map in the wreckage pre Jaya) through Skypiea (maybe even G8, anime only) would be one. I won't mention future ones due to spoilers though.

They're different arcs that are parts of the same saga. Just like Saboady, Amazon Lily, etc are different arcs but all parts of the Summit War saga.

Spandam is such a great example of character writing. Often, in writing characters tend to get portrayed in a way where we fictionally hate them. That's to say, that we hate them within the setting of the thing we're watching; almost like a simulated hating, like cartoon bad guys. Then you get character writing like Spandam, where it's both in and outside of that fictional setting and triggers actual hatred for him. It's the whole package, like Wapol was to being annoyed by him. There's few characters that seem to hit this mark for me, that pink lady from Harry Potter was another.

I don’t think many will disagree if I say Spanda is unironically the most hated villain in One Piece? At surface level he’s like Morgan, Kuro, Wapol or Krieg: not a very memorabel villain. But those guys at least have some redeeming qualities (they’re either comically incompetent, or somewhat cool looking), but Spanda is just an a-hole and physically abusing Robin in a realistic way is what makes him that. Seeing him get his comeuppance will definitely be satisfying.

Sanji plays the important role of being the bridge that connects Goofiness of Ussop, Chopper and Nami to the Badassery of frontlines Luffy and Zoro. Without him, Ussop, Nami and Chopper would come off as those obnoxious background characters everyone hates that just exist to point the obvious and overreact to things. He is such a master tactician, If he was in a situation of walking away from the strawhats, he could solo the whole arc and return to the strawhats by himself. But, that would be too obvious, so I welcome Sanji simping out at every women he sees.

Always loved the moment at the end of this episode. How can you not love luffy. We all need that one person in our life who would jump in front of a bullet for you and hopefully we could do the same. Luffy's resolve is so endearing.

As much as some people say that Spandex is shallow, the truth is, some people really are that shallow and cowardly and wicked. Thank heavens they're not too common, but we've seen one or two in our lives. Usually it's the result of insecurity mixed with having been spoiled or being in a position of power where nobody has ever questioned them. Gear up for the next episodes; it's gonna be a wild ride.
