I am Japanese. When this was aired, the manga was so popular that even people who didn’t read it knew who Nico Robin is or they know she is part of the crew. So it wasn’t really a spoiler back then. It was more of a spoiler that Vivi wasn’t part of the intro, meaning we already knew she wasn’t going to be part of the crew.

27:56 - There is an unnoticed lost-in-translation gag here. You see Luffy finding the octopus that was stuck in Zoro's dive suit - and he said lets make takoyaki. Then in the next few scenes, you see Luffy, Usopp and Chopper eating takoyaki. Which is what the ball like thing with brown stuff with a toothpick to hold it. Takoyaki is made with octopus - implying that between those shots Sanji took the octopus and made takoyaki in a split second.

It's all character building. Filler leans more into what others find a waste of "their" time. I don't skip chapters in books because someone else finds them tedious or boring, I'll decide for myself. @@jynxcei read one piece manga and watched it 2 times ( once alone and the other one with my gf) but i never watched fillers. And its not just because they are fillers. In my opinion there are 3 things that one piece is great for : 1) emotion (joy ,sadness ect) 2) mysteries (on many different things) 3) world building (every island or caractere is important in this show. You will see every one of them again later in the show) In the fillers, only the point n1 is still here. Because you wont find any important information about the mysteries of one piece in the fillers. And fillers episode are the only episode were you dont have to care about the new caractere cause they wont appear again in the show after that. Thats why i dont watch them. Anyway. Yes i am sure they can be fun to watch. I am sure you can laugh, cry and be surpised in them just like in other episode. But personaly, what i love the most is the « everything that is said, showed is VERY important » thing when watching OP episode. Wich is not in the fillers 😌 For exemple, ep 131 here was cute the see the chopper-robin relation, but i dont need that to love robin or chopper. And appart from that robin-chopper relation, we didnt lear ANYTHING from that episode. So yes if you wanna have fun, watch the fillers. But its not for everyone. Stop saying those who watch fillers are dumb. And at the same time, stop saying that those who dont are dumb too. We just have different sensibility when watching an anime 😄

Can i just say, when they soomed out to the gigantic silluets, it made my jaw drop. I was ligit as scared as the crew when I saw that because they just looked so huge! And now the skypia arc officially began. It has one of the funniest moments in the show, a very solid story and one of the best villians in One Piece history (yes I said it, deal with it). And the Buggy scene were just so hilatious. His quick comeback was perfect and his scenes with Ace were on point. 🤣 And finally the name Whitebeard was seriously dropped. Trust me, this man won`t disappoint. And in the next episodes we finally get to ZEHAHAHAHA. Can`t wait

I hear this explanation from time to time but that's not convincing at all. First off, not everyone would know, even in Japan (and even if 99% knew, what about the remaining 1%?), and second you don't make an adaptation thinking people already know what's gonna happen. The people at Toei know both of these things. The real reason is far simpler. They have a set time frame for changing openings and since this one was due to start before she joins but end long after she does, they had a choice to make: either make two versions, or have her in right away. The first is obviously more expensive so I'm sure the higher ups said no. It's as simple as that. Money is also the reason why we have horrible pacing since the time skip because fillers don't sell, and also why they're not adapting the cover stories, because episodes without the main crew wouldn't be as popular. (and for those who wonder why the time frame for openings, again it's a question of money: songs won't stay on the charts for more than a certain amount of time. Studios know how often they need to change them to keep making money)

But if the viewer had took time to analyze the opening, (and this is One Piece we are talking about) they could have guessed a traitor in a later in the Arc before the manga revealed who they where. Even now as far the manga and series has gotten I think Skypea has the best introduction to a story arc with the ship falling from the sky and the gigantic shadows in the fog. Nothing can beat that image of the warriors, especially in the manga. What I personally like as well, having only read the story and just now am following the anime, is that the anime makes certain things clearer that I sometimes find confusing in the manga due to the artstyle. When I first read the story I was legit confused why Buggy was working as part of a tunneling until I understood he just happened to be there looking for treasure 😅 And as for Robin, I don’t know if this can be considered a spoiler since she just joined the crew, but just in case: I love her quirk of casually mentioning the worst possible scenario whenever something dangerous happens, crushing everyone’s spirit in one fell swoop 😂

I just rewatched a shortened version of One Piece that cut out all the filler, so good call on having people tell you which filler episodes to watch. The ones that are character-focused, like the one in here, are really good, and even the filler arcs are pretty decent from what I remember from watching the original series years ago. So fun fact: The original 4Kids dub of One Piece ended with the St. Briss falling out of the sky. Which led to the joke that the 4Kids dub ended with the Going Merry getting crushed by the giant ship and those versions of the Straw Hats all drowned.

I know you tend to skip filler but I highly recommend that you watch the G8-Arc (Episodes 196 to 206). By far the best Filler-Arc and honestly even better than some canon-stuff: It has an engaging story, likeable characters, an intelligent and very cool antagonist, excellent pace and it’s goddamn funny to boot.

So this is kind of spoilery - but in LRLL, we witness a funny and goofy threat to the strawhats in which one of their nakama will be taken away from them. Here is what people won't tell you. As a general note about fillers while they may not directly be canon they are not anti-canon and in fact they often setup a lot of world building that is canon. For example, sometimes major villains or themes are introduced in a filler.

It make sense for Robin to have a calming, nurturing presence for the crew. If i am not mistaken she is the oldest member at 28 yrs old at the point, while the next oldest is Zoro at 19 yrs old. Talk about age gap right there.
