The only thing that Kylie has that’s self-made is discipline, and I applaud her for that. She may talk on and on about turning her passion into a multi-billion dollar empire but she had worldwide publicity before she was even a teenager, and that kind of exposure is worth millions of investment capital that many people with similar passions don’t have. If she was born to a regular family and built the business from scratch, versus being born into a family with entertainment channels all set up is hardly a small push. But like I said, she has discipline in spades. She focused on what she wanted, didn’t get lost in the sparkly world of Hollywood like so many others before her, and worked to ensure continuous success. She was also smart to hire a good team behind her, and is a good example of how to make social media work for you. There are definitely valid business lessons to be learnt but ultimately I simply don’t subscribe to the whole hype because if anything, it’s Kim who really put the family on the map.
