WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WASTE? I can't find one video that shows what they do with it. All the videos say bottle it and take it to us. And they just leave it at that.

Because beyond that point, it's no longer the responsibility of the laboratory as long as they have done everything correctly. But to answer your Q, what happens to the waste is largely dependent upon the type of waste it is. A large percentage of it is transported offsite and incinerated. Certain solvents can be recycled as energy. A smaller percentage will be transported to a hazardous waste grade landfill. This often is the case with so-called mixed hazardous waste, waste that is both low-level long half-life radioactive waste (such as tritium or carbon-14) and chemically hazardous but not acutely toxic.

@KevinWCuts All toxic waste is hazardous, but not all hazardous waste is toxic.

That’s really a tough job to manage the hazardous waste. And the guidelines that must be taken care of while disposing the chemical waste as shown in video are appreciable.

So whats the best way to dispose of old computers and electronics?
@JP-wx6uh7 жыл бұрын
It depends on what metals are in the items. Most metals can be recycled if there is a recycling program at your particular workplace. There may be a Recycling division within your EH&S department which deals with non-hazardous wastes that can be recycled.

Hazardous Waste Management can be broken down into two simple steps: 1) Properly characterize the waste. 2) Pour down drain. Easy Peezy, Lemon Squeezy!

@JP-wx6uh7 жыл бұрын
Toxic is only one specific type of hazardous waste. There are others (ignitable/flammable, corrosive, reactive, toxic and specific lists of waste that EPA has established).
