I’m so happy for Viv that she got the VA for Alastor who she actually modeled him after! She modeled him after “You’re never fully dressed without a smile” and Amir Talai was the man who sang it on Broadway! Edit: I feel like the humor is toned down a lot more, mainly to make the drama more impactful. Sometimes too much humor can harm the tone. In a lot of Helluva Boss episodes, the humor takes away from the tension. For example, the song segment in the episode where striker kidnaps Stolas, and the call between Stolas and Blitzo in the first episode are both funny, but the tension is ripped away.

The dialogue just isn't as punchy right now. Katie Killjoy's writing is watered down also. So it's not just "I don't like her character as much with the new VA", but that the writing for some characters changed along with the changing of hte VAs. The Radio Demon being another one in ep 1 and 2 of this show. He had some good moments, but also some moments where his personality is toned down a bit. And my final complaint being in episode 2. The final song in ep 2....I hated it. I think others will probably dislike it too. The show is still decent, but the pilot is better so far.

I think part of the problem with the 'snappiness' of the jokes is that the pilot really felt like they were originally going for a 'creature of the week' format where you need to fit everything in a 20-25 minute episode so the jokes HAVE to be snappy and quick to keep the pace to finish the story arc by episode's end. This feels more long form and more like it's a sitcom set in hell.

Though I see why vivzie thought making angels bad people was a good idea in theory, but thinking about How well God is and its hole ideology of puritly good otherwise go kill yourself. Where angels have to hide who they actually are so they don't get Judgement day'd, adam and the fallen angels would be exceptions due to actually being truthful, He and them believe destroying the evil of hell is a good thing. Removing that part that sinners are people simply because they're bad. It would be way more enganging and develop god as a character additionally as a result. Seeing the greynees of heaven instead of just, oh look its hell again. I do believe both places have an issue of overstimulation, one is too painful to matter and one is too pleasurable to be satisfying. They both so both lack their goals. That would be intersting concept to explore but vivzie is way too focused on her own opinions vs what would make her idea work. Leading to forcing shit that makes things worse without thinking about it, like stolas and Blitz's relationship dynamic, Millie being way to sidelined, though i guess it kinda got better, Louna resenting her character arc to become a worse person and the world building not developed enough to explain consequenses like Demon deaths outside of hell, the I.M.P buisness even functioning despite the people they kill are expected to fall into hell. Things like thece cause major later issues that will destroy the entire story if they're aren't handled, and well seeing how people juct ingore the intersting ideas they could be going for if they'd think, thye just take the suggary slop and go.

Something I really like about the angels, at least the ones we’ve seen (including the cherubs from Helluva Boss), is that they have a nearly impenetrable superiority complex. Adam states that he’s never made a mistake while just admitting to being a complete ass who pesters others for sex on first dates and he also has herpes and lord knows what else. If that wasn’t the result of a series of mistakes, I don’t know what is. Also the Cherubs made a mistake while trying to protect a human and they were cast out with no remorse. This is kind of how I imagine all-powerful, immortal beings of creation would act. Like they’re infinitely better because they’ve been ruling for so long that they are no longer capable of seeing their own faults even when those same faults were passed on to their own creations. Anything outside of that false perfection is seen as defective and lesser and should be cast aside and any infraction is met with insane levels of retribution.

... I just took note of Alistar saying I even took a few limbs after watching this by myself 1st then watching Nux... holy hell (pun not intended) did he kill an angel? I mean a head isn't a limb but um... the pilot did imply he's even as powerful as the 7 kings possibly, or at the very least on the same level of power as the lesser kings like Paimon (Stolas' dad). It is believed in some biblical depictions the 7 high kings are specifically arch angels that fell from heaven alongside Lucifer who is Pride and emperor among the 7 high kings. Arch angels are the top tier angels, God's mightiest warriors of heaven, and 1st born children, Michael, Lucifer (before falling) and Gabriel even being the upper echelon among those select few. So Alistar that just... shows up out of nowhere, if he did this... is a massive issue, even if not Alistar... that means there is some unknown big bad out there worse than him and possibly the 7 sins... could it be Satan? He is wrath after all while Lucifer is Pride. But that's just a theory, a youtube theory... sniff.

Overall, I feel like it's pretty good so far. Yes, not as good as the pilot, but still pretty good. Honestly, the only big-ish things I dislike are: - As you mentioned, the comedy isn't as snappy. - Them making it TOO much into High School Musical (i.e. "musical" is effectively one of its genres, but there are also in-universe musical numbers). Like, in the pilot, Charlie was the only one to sing (with the visual effects potentially being in-universe illusions/reality-warping, given her level of power), and she was VISIBLY delighted when Alastor did his own reprise of her song; so much so that she didn't even begrudge him flipping her message mockingly on its head. Now, musical numbers happen all over the place, it's not entirely clear which ones are "real", and Charlie/Alastor are no longer unique in engaging in them (and no longer have that propensity in common to bond over). Not to say that the music is BAD-- it's actually quite decent --but... now it's just part of the background mechanics of the show, rather than a point to be incorporated into both plot and character interactions. - It becomes more apparent in the next three episodes, but they seem to be taking the show in a rather formulaic "learn a lesson" direction. And rushed lessons, at that. I'm worried that it's going to turn into an almost bog-standard cartoon-for-teens, just with a coat of "Hazbin Hotel"-colored paint. Also, and I have no idea why, Charlie's red pupils bug the crap out of me. Seriously, I have no idea why it bothers me, since every other design change is just whatever, but... yeah. **shrug**

Heres the problem. People who "die" in the exterminations dont simply cease to exist. Their bodies just dont regenerate to prolong their suffering further... Meaning they are still conscious and aware while their intestines are being shoveled off the street like horse sh!t. Its basically just a new type of suffering where they lose all control and agency.

It could be kinda neat if it is revealed that "hell" is actually purgatory and that souls killed in "hell" go to actual hell while anyone else can go to heaven if the clean up their act/purify themselves. I don't think purgatory's been mentioned at all in the show.

The reason the jokes aren't as snappy is one the pilot was made to grab people's attention and get off tons of jokes to give the full feel of what the shows comedy would be while the show can slow it down and let things go more smoothly and as intended. Two, the focus of the pilot was the comedy and the focus of the show is evenly split between comedy and drama. Hazbin Hotel's flow is along the same lines as Helluva Boss. And three, you keep pausing so often you're ruining the jokes, you paused so much you doubled the length of the episode almost. 80% of the issue is you're pausing too often.

I get the argument that a lot of demons are absolutely horrible people who will never change and who probably deserve to die. That's true. But imps and people like Charlie are born into Hell, there by no sin at all. And in this world, mistakes aren't allowed to get into Heaven, so it sounds like a lot of demons might also have just made mistakes when they were young, then grown up, lived a good life and gone to Hell anyway. Genocide of any sentient population should never be the 'good guy' song.

Hellborn are excluded from extermination due to Lucifer, and other lore is that Hellborn fade to nothingness when they die, just like Sinners when killed again by angelic weaponry. Also, the Hellborn not being in Hell due to their own deeds is true, but it doesn't change the fact that they still engage in the exact same evils that the Sinners do. Even Moxxie is an unrepentant murderer who would wipe out an innocent middle class bloodline if it was actually ordered by Blitzo.

Its hard to say whether the story at the start is in universe propaganda. But it's also possible Lucifer just had good intentions but just made a stupid mistake kinda like how sinners did. Since this show already takes inspiration from various biblical mythology such as Dante's inferno with the rings aspect. In aspect of Lucifer the more sympathetic light may be reminiscent of paradise lost.

I love how the characters, especially Alastor, feel so much more alive now that more episodes are out to expand on them (obviously since it was just a pilot at first). Alastor just has more personality now in my opinion, he comes off as so smug and confident with things that he is hiding, unlike in the pilot where it felt like he was just "ooooo creepy tumblr sexy man!!". I've grown to enjoy his character so much more.
