The First Man reunites with his first born.

Story: Heaven not stopping the exterminations has worn Adam down to a low point. The Redemptionists are trying to lift his spirits, trying to keep the hope alive but it's no use. Sera is secretly on Adam’s side but cannot single handedly put an end to this. Emily and the other Elder Angels are pro Extermination and Sera would risk being forced out and fallen should she try anything. The Elders of Heaven are more like a council and the Redemptionists need a majority on their side.
Despite this, Sera isn't totally doing nothing. Upon seeing that Adam, the main champion of redemption, was on the verge of giving up, she decides on a different angle. Using her powers, she found Cain and brought him up to Heaven for a family reunion. She had enough authority to smuggle him in without being caught. All this time, she had kept her eye on him and saw how he actually regretted his crime and wished for his own personal redemption. People can change, especially after thousands of years. Sera saw how the years turned Cain into a more withdrawn, remorseful shell of himself while Abel’s hatred had been consuming him more.
Cain had no idea all of this stuff was happening in the Afterlife since he was stuck on Earth and he had no intention of going back to Hell despite being able to via the Asmodean Crystal he stole. Adam always wanted to talk to Cain but angels visiting Earth was something that needed to be approved and he was barred from it, the reasoning being that Cain being isolated from the rest of his family was part of his punishment. All this time, Adam was left wondering what became of him. Cain was his first born, that was his baby. He remembers the day he was born, his first words, his first steps. Everything. Which is what makes it all especially devastating that he couldn't have prevented what happened. It's been thousands of years, Adam really missed his son.
So when the reunion happened, the emotional dam burst. Not only that, Cain could be the poster child the Redemptionists need. If the first murderer could achieve redemption, then other sinners could, right? Cain wants to help his dad free his siblings from Lucifer’s influence (thus getting back at the Morningstars), he wants to repair his family and he wants winners that were separated from their sinner relatives to achieve their own family reunion.
This is, of course, a ticking time bomb. Once Abel finds out, you can imagine how the reaction will go.

If you guessed that Cain would be seeking redemption, then yay, have a cookie. In this AU, Charlie’s role is taken by both Adam and Cain. A father-son duo that both want to do right by their family and atone for their sins. The OG Hazbin Hotel has the Princess of Hell fight for redemption and this AU has a (former) Prince of Hell doing the same. This animatic is also crucial because I've been neglecting showing you all how Adam isn't alone. He does have supporters. One of the major themes of Christianity is forgiveness and salvation and a sizable chunk of Heaven believes in that. Unfortunately, another chunk of Heaven has a more old school “rain God’s wrath down upon sinners” mentality. Think New Testament vs Old Testament. As for Cain’s design, that outfit was what the Morningstars dressed him up in. It's really the only nice thing he owns so he doesn't get rid of it. I was trying to channel prince-like vibes from it as well as make his design fit into the aesthetic of the show (y'know, lanky dudes with bow ties lmao).

If you're a new viewer, you gotta watch the other videos on my channel to understand the context. And yep, I finally stopped teasing you guys and now you know what Cain looks like. Now, fact time: +Cain loathes the Morningstars and wants nothing to do with them. He looks gaunt not just because all of the guilt he feels/only being able to eat meat but because he is perpetually stressed that the Morningstars will drag him back to Hell. It's why he is always wandering, he is paranoid and in hiding. And he's been feeling this for THOUSANDS of years. He's not a psychopath that kills for fun, the whole ordeal made him a pacifist that hates killing in general. Which is what makes the curse worse, he can't even be vegan because crops just die on him. So he forgoes eating to avoid meat as long as possible. +Sera cannot remove the mark from Cain. The origin of the mark is heavenly but it was issued by a power beyond the Elders of Heaven. That power being God himself. Now, God in this does exist but it's rare that you'll see him intervene. Most of the work is carried out by the angels. Who knows what God is like in the OG show. +Oh hey, there's Lute. I keep getting asked about what's her deal. Obviously, since swap AU, she's in Vaggie’s place. As for why she looks particularly distressed at seeing Cain, she is a former exorcist and she's been very, very close with a certain you know who that is absolutely going to go ballistic about Cain’s arrival. She's more scared of that than whatever she’s heard about Cain. As for the lack of arm, Vaggie was responsible for that. “What??” Yeah but it was an accident so… And Sera has some idea about her past but she knows Lute is scared about that coming to light so for her sake, she keeps it a secret too. +Abel’s anger is not something I've really drawn as much. His wrath is pretty terrifying. Terrifyingly violent. Violent as in “Millie killed Crimson’s entire Mafia squad when they crashed the wedding in Helluva Boss S2”. That's what sinners experience once a year. Because he is not the leader of the Exorcists for nothing. Millie is just an imp, Abel is a full on angelic warrior, if anything his wrath is 100x worse. So yeah, that’s not nerve-wracking. Totally. +Yep, Molly is here! She wants her family in Heaven really bad. If she knew what they were going through in Hell, it would hurt her more. And I decided that Pentious was already a winner that was separated from Cherri after their divine judgment. Cherri would be retconned into living in the 1800s like Pentious to make the timeline work. +Bruh my lighting skills suck lmao. Also, I like to have running gags in my animatics. That sheet of paper at the start, for instance. I like to imagine that Adam drew that with red crayon and that look Cain gave him was one of pure “Dad, what is this even meant to be??”. +I've decided on giving this AU an official name. Yes, it has roots in the Swap AU and you could call it that but someone suggested Sins of the Father and I like that a lot. Alternatively, I feel like people might just end up calling this “that one Cain and Abel AU” but I'm fine with whatever.

Another idea for a short: Lucifer trying to convince Eve to eat this apple with this version of this song. Obviously in the end she gives in. Maybe have a part where the music shifts and Eve either convinces Adam to eat the apple. Then in Heaven they might have a strained relationship. Interesting enough, parallel to this is how werewolves have ties to early Christianity at the very least (I'd see​Overly Sarcastic Productions video on them to explain in depth just how, but the simple version is some people belived they took on a wolf form in their sleep to hunt down sinners iirc), so Abel in a way gives me werewolf vibes (if this was a monster au of this au which I so wish was Canon as I love it!) if Cain is said to be the source of vampires in some myths. Not to mention being a sort of "wolf in sheep's clothing" as he claims that sinners don't deserve redemption while Adam himself is one of the world's first sinners and was redeemed and Abel doesn't think he didnt deserve to be redeemed. I just wanna know, In both Hazbin Hotel and this AU, just where is purgatory? As its main purpose is to redeem sinners- is it just off to the side, forgotten? does it not exist? @saffiro

I really love this complicated family cause Adam unconditionally love both of his sons, Abel and Cain, but Abel is vengeful while Cain is remorseful. It would be such a punch in the gut for Abel to see that Adam still loves Cain who murdered him, and yet Cain is very regretful of his actions, to the point of his own detriment yet Abel is just too full of grief and resentment to just let go. But it's equally as cruel for Adam to not love his sons . He just want his family back, but stones were thrown and curse been given, it's too hard and too broken to fix this, but maybe it can start with sorry

I was kinda hoping that Cain would be acting as a bodyguard for Charlie. Using dual sickles, a tool he used to harvest wheat when alive now used as a weapon, in a defensive and non-aggressive manner where he aims to disarm and capture his opponent. He is unable to actually attack or harm anyone, due to the curse placed upon him by God, so he has to disarm and capture his opponents. But he isn't all that harmless as another part of the curse is that if anyone strikes him the damage will rebound back onto them three-fold, so his strategy of disarm and capture is to protect them from his curse.

I gotta say, I love this AU. My major problem with vivs HH and HB is that... It doesn't actually take inspiration from the religion. It seems to just, take the ascetic. Asmodeus believes in consent, Beelzebub is a party manager that forewords moderation of all things. And Lucifer, the epitome of pride. Is a defeated loser wallowing in self pity. But here? Everything is as it should be. Lucifer and his family are petty prideful corrupters .Exploring the concepts of forgiveness and atonement through parental love, rather then some sense of royal responsibility that charlie seems to have . I love this AU for the same reason I love paradise lost. Taking a lightly touched on subject and expanding on it in a bible fanfic. The story of Cain and Able is so interesting and rarely explored. I just love what you have been doing with this!!!

I don't have problems with ozzie and bee being actually nice because they are hellborn, they happen to live in corrupt society but they are actually trying not making worst and in fact for what I see they are fair rulers, yes they like eat emotions but they are not greedy about. About Lucifer I don't believe a word of hell fairytale. Lucifer still Prince of pride, his apology is just being sorry for consequences, for me free will was already here, because lilith and eve couldn't rebel against destiny without. I believe he gave the apple with good intentions but also pride, he wanted to show other angels his ideas work. Easy she doesn't care and want power. And she made a deal with Adam, you know the terrible man who tried to dominate her, for what? Holiday? Charlie is perfect example of member of cult family , she see her parents as heroes but they are far away from truth and she lived so shielded that she is so surprised to see Valentino treats angel as garbage. I want Lucifer and lilith being grey characters not just misunderstanded heroes. For that I believe extermination is not a heaven hobby but conseguence of hell attacked the heaven in past by using overlord who becoming archdemons by soul deal. For that heaven destroys souls, it is like in Europe between wars the winner nation who was attacked, taking control of iron and coal, so they can be sure loser aggressive nation cannot attack again. CEE the anciest EU was born in similar way "I don't trust you, you don't trust me, so everyone are going to product a limited quantaty of iron, coal everything can used in war, so we know nobody is being smart again." If you give heaven war, angel would be humanizate, for example sera, Adam and lute being few survivors of that war explained why they hated so much demons and they couldn't accept Charlie idea. Give me my grey morality world and characters! I cannot believe I see children /teenagers story more deep

I'm a bit curious about Seth and who he will be siding with. I don't know if you plan to expand the family tree more, but if you do, Adam and Eve also had two daugthers, Aclima and Azura according to some, Aclima was Cain's twin sister and Azura was Abel's, Aclima married Cain after Abel's death and Azura married Seth, who was believed to be Abel's replacement. Since you especified that Cain's bloodline would die with him it would be interesting to see what happened with Aclima after that or perhaps she rejected him after knowing what he did to their brother

One observation I made, was that if Cain appeared in Hazbin Hotel, he could be a great villain, since he was the first sinner (not the first sin, but probably the first soul to go to hell), this would make him a pretty formidable opponent. And it would also be interesting to see Cain's reaction to seeing his father dead, perhaps seeking revenge. Either way, it's definitely a good observation to make when thinking about Cain and Adam, like this animation did.

Ok... With what I know now, I can just imagine a recontextualized version of More Than Anything's reprise with it being between Lute and Abel, as I kinda suspect that she was the exorcist he got a bit close to, with the video showing how close the were at the time this was song... while also showing flashfowards to the future with what could have possibly happened to change that, maybe Lute could have for the first time seen the full extent of Abel's anger with her being terrified by it or maybe it was something else, adding to the tragedy of it all as the video officially ends with Abel finding out that Cain is in heaven, right as the final "More Than Anything" is said with us seeing the fury on Abel's face

Jealous Lute? Lute loves Adam very much, she must be happy with this reconciliation, if Cain and Abel had been present she would have supported Adam in reuniting with Cain, however she always supports Adam in everything because she loves him and for this reason Adam loves her. Lute always wants Adam's happiness. And then it would cover a role of acquired mother for Cain since she loves Adam and he loves her back in this I see a lot of it, because Adam suffers a lot from his losses but she wants things to work out, Adam is grateful to him for always being close to him. The interesting thing is the reversed roles of Abel being more violent than Cain, but the idea of an undisciplined person who is taken back by Lute and the other who is finally pampered because he didn't have the chance.

I guess she thinks he's dreamy but above all, this AU has roots in the Swap AU. So instead of Sera condoning the exterminations, it's Emily. And since her role in heaven is to bring joy, and then sees the outpouring of joy caused by Extermination Day, then the exterminations must not stop. She takes that responsibility very seriously and also has the mentality of "sinners are in Hell for a reason, they've already been judged so screw em. I'm prioritizing winners instead of sinners".

Cain was cursed to wander the Earth for eternity so he can't die. A good film on Netflix that explores the aftermath of Genesis on Cain is "He Never Died". It's really good. In the show itself Cain will probably be some sort of rich billionaire who just wants to fix his mistake, like what happened to Jesus in Rick and Morty. A really good fan fiction basically used him as a "Winter Soldier/ Attack dog" for organisations like D.H.O.R.K.S and he might even be like some sort of Templar who seeks to repent for his sins and gets manipulated by Sera and other corrupt angels to go and do their dirty work on Earth.

Something I realized while watching this video for the 8 billionth time (I am addicted to this animatic send help) was about the big fight at the end of Season 1. Will it happen in this AU? And if it does, will they be fighting Abel and the rest of the Exorcist army? Adam doesn’t really seem like the fighting type in this AU. And Cain… (Looks at frail malnourished Cain) Isn’t as strong as he used to be… The main cast barely fought off the Exorcists in the main show, so how will they do it in this AU?
