And we can see that he didn't always have a flatscreen head, in a photograph seen in episode 2 (Radio killed the video star) we can see Vox and Valentino shaking hands. They wear completely different outfits alluding to the fact that it was taken in the past. In this picture, Vox doesn't have a flatscreen head but rather a more old-fashioned box TV head.
