Dragonflight was the first time I didn’t max out my professions. The new system is needlessly complicated without anymore reward. Having different levels of materials, as well as having to get gear, all to craft the same things that are barely profitable, isn’t fun or worthwhile. If they’re going to make it this complicated, they should at least make the crafted gear more reliable and on par with the highest gear you can get otherwise.

Absolutely. As far as I know, in my guild, I'm the ONLY ONE with 2 maxed (knowledge/skill/equipment) professions. So many people just won't TOUCH it. It's too complicated, too much gold/time needed to be invested. It's not just bad for people doing professions, but people LOOKING for good professionals to do rework or make gear. I WANT to get better equipment for my DH's professions, but have a hard time finding people to make it. I wish they would simplify it rather than adding more complexity (MORE RARE REAGENTS????? NO THANK YOU!) I DO like the idea of knowledge catch up, but . . . I don't understand why they say they'll have it at the BEGINNING when, other than a few rep vendors and such, as far as I know they don't even have it AT ALL in DF.

Hi Hazel. I have been playing WOW nonstop since 2007. What I don't like about the professions now is that many of the recipes require sparks. That severely limits not only leveling up, but being able to make the full set of gear. Not to mention that it is overly complicated for many, including the casual player. You used to be able to craft gear that was relevant to you as you leveled up and was usable. Now, by the time that you get enough mats/sparks to make something, you already have better gear from other sources. The professions now favor the "professional player" types of players and leaves the rest of us behind.
@nordrassil15 ай бұрын
They did put out a poll about professions recently and that was my biggest gripe too - getting to 100 is severely limited by sparks and crafting SEVERAL VERY EXPENSIVE things, especially on tailoring and such.

All the talent boosts are revolved around draconium or severite ore but most the recipes I need don’t require ANY or just a few. Most of them require more rare materials which is fine but unless you happened to max out whichever specific talent tree prof helped then it doesn’t do much. It sucks too the sparks just become useless, there’s not a way to upgrade or anything and in my experience they never go up by enough that justifies me spending on getting the materials

It wouldn't be so bad if the sparks weren't soulbound. If you could trade them to your alts, it would've been much nicer. Case in point: my herb/alch toon has a bunch of sparks but barely uses them because she can only craft alchemist stones to. Would've been better to transfer them to a toon who could actually use them.

Problems w/ DF crafting: -Starting late means being behind forever -System is confusing and it’s literally possible to SOFTLOCK urself. I did this twice on an alt -Quality ranking take up x3 the space, barely affect it, and stupidly enough, for things like vendors you actually only want Q2 not Q3 for buying transmogs and the like -Everything needs sparks which makes it harder to craft and catch up as well -artisan mettle is divided extremely unfairly and soul bound. DF's profession issues were simple fixes that never got addressed. Public work orders sucked, all they had to do was give the same options available to private orders. Other issues were recipes, such as Elemental Lariat which became near impossible to obtain as content became dated creating server monopolies. Also the lack of catchup mechanics behind trade skill talent points, there was also the issue of certain talents being required for easy skill progression early on, which caused alot of people to semi softlock the grind accidentally.

Since very late Vanilla, when I started playing, one of the things I got into quite a bit was PROFESSIONS. I found that it was nice to be able to make not only my own things, but stuff for friends (and later, guildies). While professions have always had some issues, I began to see that as they added more and more complexity, it became less fun. The level system in Legion was annoying, the stupid amount of BoP items in BFA (not allowing NON-RAIDING toons to make things, even if a main non-crafter raided a LOT) which COULD have been fixed with BoA mats. The dumb legendary system in SL (you can't even DISENCHANT the lower items you NEED to make to LEARN next higher level, and unless you got into it early, you couldn't even GIVE THEM AWAY). BUT late SL non-Legendary crafting was pretty great, as was the WoD system of very useful and upgradeable gear - though if they had missives for stats, it would have been pretty near perfect. So, now we come to Dragonflight. There is so much wrong with the profession system right now. It's so convoluted that MOST people I know have not only NOT maxed it (with the exception of SKILL for gatherers) but have completely lost interest. It's overly complicated, introducing a bunch of brand new STATS (especially if you are both gathering AND crafting - you need to know both), but the huge knowledge system, with very little EXTRA ways to get it, tying the work order to advancement (work order should have simply been an convenient way for people to get stuff made, and should simply have been a part of the AH system, allowing people to put in work orders). Even when you MAX both skill and knowledge, if you don't have THE BEST equipment, you will NOT be able to make the best stuff. And as is with the history of WoW, MOST people WILL want the BEST STUFF. The public work order is VERY limited, not allowing you to do rework, not able to put in quality as a condition, and not making it easy for CRAFTERS to see work orders when they are up. Also, you can't even condition the BEST quality because even if the crafter CAN make it, it won't allow them to take it. Also, you should be able to see (WITHOUT having the mats) what adding mats (such as crests, sparks, missives) whether or not you'll be able to succeed in making top quality items. In fact, you should be able to see it on professionals (or at the VERY LEAST, in the guild roster, under professions). Also, METTLE should have been BoA. To have one toon need it quite a lot (Tailor/Enchanter) and another hardly EVER need it (herbalist/skinner) is stupid. I play both toons. I should be able to use whatever my toon gets, no matter which one. (HOPEFULLY this is fixed with warbands). This is also a pretty awful system for people who want to just make things for their GUILD and put them in the bank, as I used to do. While I hated the Legendary system in SL, I really liked the general crafting once we got into Zereth Mortis. For me to make people some gear (say, they hit 60, or just got back into the game), without sparks or crests, or really, anything from the recipient, I was able to craft things for them. I put the embellishments in the bank so if any crafter wanted to make things not only for themselves, but for other guild members, they could. I also dislike having to get ODD FACTION reputation up. I really just wanted the Frozen Spellthread, but wasn't able to always find groups for Cobalt Assembly and ended up either soloing it or trying to find another person there, so we could kill things faster. Also, too many of the recipes for items in demand are WORLD DROPS. I feel like the whole system was created to get people to buy gold, to get their crafting up ASAP, buy rare recipes from the AH all to get ahead. Very much sucks for people who simply want to be able to provide for themselves, their alts, friends and guild, with gear or consumables. At one time, the guild used to be able to afford to give people mats to level, especially when only SKILL was needed. And then we'd provide mats, and then everyone in the guild would have access to things like cut gems, pots, enchants. (Most enchants, a spellthread and bags are able to be provided since I actually took the time and energy to level my tailoring and enchanting - no one else in the guild finds it fun - just confusing, and have mostly given up on it). Also, it's SEASON 4. For heaven's sake, just give everyone a huge knowledge catch up already!!! The people who got there ahead of everyone else already made a bunch of gold. Let alts, latecomers, and those who FINALLY figured out somewhat, how the profession works, get into it. (Also, having the professions explained when people are NOWHERE NEAR ready to use it is stupid. I didn't remember anything about illustrious insights, etc., when I actually NEEDED that information - there was just SOO MUCH to try to understand. That information should have come when had a certain amount of knowledge and skill). Even if they are easing up on certain things, adding ANOTHER LAYER of difficulty (even RARER items - I've spent SO MUCH DAMN GOLD on things like Awakened items. I've NEVER had to spend this much gold on either consumables OR material as I have in this expansion, unless you count the ridiculous amount I spent being able to make ONE piece of Legendary gear at max, in SL, only to rarely use it) that I don't think it'll make profession fun or compelling for ANYONE who didn't get into it in Dragonflight.
@Exocraze5 ай бұрын
Based on these comments, I guess I'm in the minority but I absolutely love what professions are now. I hope they're able to nail down the importance of all qualities of materials so that things like gathering don't die immediately, but I think the new professions are a great baseline that could be truly amazing after a few more iterations. It seems like a lot of people here just decided "this is complicated" from the jump and never actually interacted with the system even though it's really not that bad and is pretty intuitive once you start interacting with it. They managed to make crafted gear important and relevant throughout the entire expansion, and I think that was the main goal. I make plenty of gold through crafting to this day. Just gotta socialize a bit.

First I got to go get the sparks, then I have to go get the crests to then send to someone to make it into an item i can use for crafted gear. Then i have to find what is good for my spec, now i have to choose between making a piece for raid or for M+ or for pvp, then 2 weeks later I have to do it all over again. Then the next season comes around and now I have to find another person to create the awakened crest and find someone specific who can recraft my existing crafted items. Then the dilemma of do I make a pvp piece or do I make a raid/M+ piece arises. Am i suposed to just say sorry guys I can't upgrade my pvp crafted piece until week 6 of the season so ill just have to deal with two piece of gear being 40+ ilvls lower. Its the same problem we have had for many many seasons with the great vault just even more annoying because crafted gear hold so much power. That is also even ignoring that alot of people play different specs, dragonflight is extremely alt friendly if you play a singular spec in a single form of content. If you even remotely dabble between specs/roles professions become a massive thorn that makes it not enjoyable for me at least. Sure by two or three months in you can get all the crafted pieces you need but that still feels awful playing at a disadvantage or making your group weaker as a whole because of forced time gating. The time in wow when crafting was good was when you bought the mats sent them to someone and they made you the piece of gear and that was it. The only limiting factor was having the gold to buy the mats or the time to farm them yourself not some time gated system that screws over people who enjoy playing more then a minigame style content end game and want to do EVERYTHING.

Epic and Legendary gems give the same amount of their stat in question- the only difference is bonus stam that you'll find on the legendary gems. How much depends on the ilvl of the piece it's socketed into. Wear epic gems and don't combine them until you have a big enough supply of gems to wear Legendary ones without any empty slots. The extra stam does help a bunch with things like your Slay damage and also just living through stuff early.

I used to make all my gold by selling the fish and herbs needed for raiders to make their feasts and potions.
@GoddessPallasAthena5 ай бұрын
It's probably because a lot of people DROPPED crafting and picked up gathering, or people simply gave up on professions altogether and so, the mats aren't needed. Cooking isn't as bad, but there might be a surplus of herbs. (Rousing / awakened items sell well though, I think).

Overall crafting is frustrating. I spent roughly 2 hours yesterday leveling an alt from 0 to 300 in classic tailoring after spending the same amount of time just getting 6 knowledge points for DF.

I very much dislike that Inspiration is still a thing, especially on gear. Concentration was supposed to replace that. I don't want my crafts dictated by luck and RNG. All of the crafting seems "fine" on the alpha/beta outside of LW now missing all weapons (I'm hoping that's an oversight). Currently, very few recipes are coming from renown, which I like! Also, you earn a LOT more base skill points from trainer recipes than from being forced into using soulbound mats and waiting for personal/public crafting orders to show up. I do appreciate that Blizz is taking a bit of a turn with buffs, potions, enchants, and even some of the "embellished" gear with more kiss-curse offerings. In terms of embellished, it doesn't appear to be a thing in TWW. I'm literally wearing 4pc tier, crafted 2pc set, proc cloak, crafted proc boots, and a proc weapon. None say embellished or have any language that restricts them. It'd be great if all of that was possible as I very much like buffing the party as a healer and the extra spell effects and bonuses feel and look great.
@GoddessPallasAthena5 ай бұрын
Agree with everything except kiss/curse. As a squishy mage, I'm so sick and tired of my gear trying to kill me. Once you max your skill and knowledge, I don't think max quality should be a proc, but rather a guarantee. If you put that much effort into something that MOST people have completely given up on, RNG shouldn't be a part of it. You are a master crafter. You shouldn't fail.

Question - I forgot about this until you mentioned professions. On my main I maxed out my profession points and between the weekly profession quests and the treasties I now have 90 profession points I can't use. Will I get to keep those or do those just disappear once the next expansion starts? I suspect I'll loose them but thought I'd ask.
@willythemailboy25 ай бұрын
You won't get to keep them but there are two NPCs you can trade them to for more Artisan's Mettle. The Apprentice Crafter and Apprentice Gatherer can be found in Valdrakken near the crafting order NPC. TomTom coordinates 37.6 64.8
@laughingisgoodforyou39695 ай бұрын
@@willythemailboy2 Thank you. That makes sense.
@fadedletterslost5 ай бұрын
The problem with a system where crafting is difficult is that you end up having 90% of the people just become gatherers. If it takes forever to get cap in crafting because the mats are hard to get and expensive most people just won't do it, they will just gather mats instead. Then you end up with a system that destroys gathering professions instead. The previous iterations of crafting all the way to Dragonflight worked fine because it didn't feel like you were punished for being one or the other. Now it feels like unless you are gathering mats that you have to no life crafting. They could have added layers onto the previous crafting system, but instead they made it a convoluted mess of reputation grinding, mat buying, and praying that you can be the first to start crafting the rares with the limited timed items to max out fast.
@GoddessPallasAthena5 ай бұрын
Most people in my guild and circle of friends just simply gave up on professions. Too complicated, too much time and gold investment needed. And if you didn't play all the time, you were punished for not being able to do the weekly profession quests and whatnot.

@kimdeuel5 ай бұрын
Dragonflight killed professions for me. I only crafted for my own characters but I had all professions maxed out from every expansion and collected as many recipies as I could. In DW, I only worked on Leatherworking because that's what my main wears. Doing more was more hassle than fun. If the system is continuing, then I'll likely not bother. Enjoying Remix but I didn't realize after getting my Paladin into 402 gear (was going to save the bronze for mogs) that the rings, trinkets, and cloak do not level up to match. I tried to get into Heroic Raids to get more bronze but nobody wanted me even though I was still under 371 ilvl overall (Is that still a thing?) Now I just feel stuck on that character, so back to leveling alts I go. Beta has been more fun now that I'm not dc'ing every 15 minutes. Thanks for the addon information! Just installed it.

hi hazel! i have a quick question ^-^; idk if you already addressed this somewhere and i forgot but, the recolored (trading post) class sets for remix require the landfall achievement to unlock and buy. do i have to do that on every class i want the sets on? or can i just do landfall once and just buy it on my alts? sorry again if you answered this before!
@Hazelnuttygames5 ай бұрын
Doing it once lets you buy the rest of them, on any character. I unlocked it on a hunter and then bought the sets on a different character that I powerleveled with their leveling bronze. The only benefit to repeating the achievement is the character that you do it on does receive 'their' set for free on completing the achievement, so it saves a bit of Bronze.

so there is one thing i hope they fix, some of the larger pieces of gear like weapons and such or the Primal gear that could be adjusted depending on a mat you get from raiding or dungeons right now its called Awakened Dream Fragment or something along those lines to raise the i level of an item in crafting. That stuff was fine but instead of making the items bind on pickup, I'd like to see all that stuff bind on equip like it used to be, b/c as a crafter you where not able to make a lot of money this expansion via crafting, it was more of a self improvement along the way kind of thing which was ok but did not help you make a crap ton of gold like previous expansions.... now if i had to choose i would make normal learned crafting recipes BOE, while recipes earned from world drops/reputation/raids to be BOP or made through crafting order, that to me would have made much more sense and it would have allowed crafters to make more money along the way.

I have always really enjoyed professions and made sure to max out at least one of each in every expansion. Dragonflight professions are absolutely horrible. They are so complex I feel I would have to read a manual (and keep it on hand) just to have an idea of how to do anything. I also have no clue how to get patterns. I have a long list of unlearned patterns and I have yet to see a vendor, or get any from drops. Not that it probably matters as I don't want to constantly chase after sparks to make anything. I am just heartbroken over what they have done. I have been playing Wow since vanilla.....20 years! I have seen some poor decisions in the game over the years, but I would just move on and enjoy the things I love: questing, auction house and professions. They pretty much destroyed gold making from the AH by merging them, so now no one makes money. Now they have completely destroyed professions, my second favorite thing. I am strongly considering looking for another game to play. WoW just is not what it used to be, it is not the game I love anymore.

I only just got back into wow this year. Ive been taking it slow, playing other games (and even when playing wow, I took part in Plunderstorm and now Remix). I still do not have the main story done, so I don’t have weekly crafting quests unlocked. My crafting ability is SO incredibly far behind, it’s kinda hilarious. I haven’t played since MoP and i’m used to leveling my professions while leveling my character - as a tailor/enchanter, easily crafting gear, keeping my gear enchanted, etc. Now, both my crafts are sorely underleveled, many recipes are locked behind renown, and I can only make lower quality items (I’ve been buying enchants off the AH, as an enchanter, because I can’t make HQ versions yet. That feels weird AF lol…) The crafting orders also don’t seem to be a thing? (or the orders dont show before max skill idk) At least material costs are pretty low since the market is so saturated, lol. The new prof stuff seems kinda cool, but honestly I’d rather have the old way. There’s already sssooooooo much stuff pulling at our attention, adding complexity & bloat to professions definitely wasn’t on my bucket list of features 😅

i can't believe that we have content in remix that is locked behind mythic content. not only do we have a limited window to get all this stuff, but we have to pick and choose whether we want to upgrade our gear to do the mythic content or spend our brooze on the limited time rewards AND we have to contend with the aholes that bar us from getting into the mythic content that creat the groups in the group finder. They demand this class, this spec, this gear, this achievement, this io score, this mythic score, this or that, or all of the above. I was really having fun with the remix until i found just how much stuff I WASN'T going to be able to get because of this. I do hope if they do this again they take the rewards out of mythic content and make gearing better.

Professions lost their soul and the adventure behind them. If you want to fix them, you need to look at games that do them far better in their early stages and Runescape is a key example. Need to create a frost related item? You should have to travel to frost related zones and do a unique gameplay mechanic to acquire it, with something that borders on a QTE for doing them (which 'could' reduce bots if done the right way = far more lucrative professions with less items being produced in the market by bots). Ignoring that, mining in classic feels so much more satisfying to me, than modern, simply for having to click the node multiple times. I remember enjoying the QOL change, but I was wrong. The immersion is something valuable we left behind. I play Wartales at the moment and they've made their professions feel incredible. They have gameplay to them and it makes you want to engage in the systems, far, far more than WoW has in years.

The absurdity of the crafting orders system has me baffled to this day and it would be horrible to have it carry into future expansions unattained to . The fact that someone actually thought it a good idea to have people not play the actual game for hours but spend that time spamming trade in order to either find customers for their craft or a crafter for their gear is insane. Make all orders public, leave the option to choose the difficulty of the craft available, simple. Crafters who have the time to put into maximizing their skill fulfill the orders that are set to max difficulty, the others take care of the easier ones. Increase the daily limit to 10-15-20. And out of a sudden no one spends hours on smtg silly, you log on, place your order, go by your business, alternatively you log on, check orders, pick any you want to fulfill, go by your day. Personal orders could be left in just so that targeted crafts can still take place, peace to us all. The whole idea behind the system with the pride of being one of the few crafters on a server that could make specific gear was short lived imo and came at the price of a lot of wasted time.
