My daughter just moved into Lincoln this year as a freshman as well! I live about an hour away, If she is in Ashmun, know that she will be just fine! I adopted the young ladies on my daughters floor, anything they need, they will have! Especially the young ladies whose families aren't so close. Praying for a prosperous and exciting year for our babies ❤

I was emotional all over again. I moved my daughter in on 8/3/22. I felt happy, sad, anxious and nervous. All we can do is pray and know that what we have taught them and talked to them about, is in their brain. ❤️❤️

Congrats!! Focus on your classes. Sorority life will be there all 4 years. The first semester is a life changer. You’re your decision maker. Mom & Dad are there to help you work through those decisions. Have fun but remember your goal. Pray everyday, be kind but stern about your life and have a little bit of fun on the way to adulthood. My niece had to move all her things home after the first semester (a school requirement). What I wish I had done and did do after that first semester was to find a storage facility in or close to the school and store all her things toward the end of school each year. After that first semester, I had to find a better way. I was not going to make all those trips or spend u-haul money to bring that stuff home for 7 weeks. I did this all 3 years she was away. I bought the insurance for the unit just in case but if you’re a homeowner check with your agent about being covered. The price was about the cost of a tank of gas one way for the whole summer and if she finds someone to share the unit it’s even less. Just a life experience tip for all you college parents.

Well, I’ve shed a few tears watching and remembering my freshman move in day. (Fall ‘77) My parents drove me from NJ to GA to attend FT. Valley State College (now University & also an HBCU). We stayed the weekend at a hotel not far away as I had a single room & was NOT anxious to be by myself in a strange place & state. Georgia was quite different from NJ. As you whispered to her, I could my mommy’s voice giving me the same advice you gave her at the end and just as you did ……… she told me only God loved me more than they did. She reminded me I was HIS child and to live to make HIM proud.😢🥲 My mom passed away in 2005 but I can hear her voice so often speaking to me. Thank you so much for sharing this experience which caused me to recall such precious moments in my life. I was truly blessed with a wonderful mother as your children are with you. (My dad was pretty awesome too😉) God’s Richest Blessings upon your beautiful daughter as she embarks on this new journey and upon your entire family is my prayer. May you all remember to keep the Lord first in everything and all will be well. 🙏🏽💞

Shyvonne, as a parent of three, two college grads (and one in grad school) and one junior, I would suggest that you encourage your daughter to ask for help. The biggest thing I find for kids new to college is that they feel so isolated and they struggle, but they don't ask for help. Schools have the resources but the kids don't ask for help! Wishing her all the best.
