American Crime Story Season 2 had many great things, but during many portions of the show, it just drift away. It became like a CSI lookalike. Sharp Objects is way better and deserved that golden globe, so did Amy Adams. Amazing, honest and deep take on addiction, pain, childhood, trauma... And that only from one character. Incredible acting, music, editing... The whole town horrors gripped in the daylight. Purely art.
@rgwak5 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said. But credit also goes to the director Jean-Marc Vallee. I loved the sense of dread and impending danger that soaked through the screen. And the way he made the town - a throw back to Southern Gothic - almost a character in the story in its own right. Brilliant! And yeah, Amy Adams should have won all the awards for that work!

@JaiProdz5 жыл бұрын
Well. I think most of us fans wanted that too, especially since both are such talented actresses. I think it was likely scheduling, or fear of type cast (versus seeing a good thing and the advantage of that!), or Amy just wasn't interested or maybe even considered for the part. Early on during promo Sophia L said she'd love to see Jessica Chastain play adult Beverly in part 2, and I hear the director has worked with Jessica before, and obviously she's a red head and a big name she was a shoe-in. In terms of Amy Adams, this might not be exactly her wheelhouse, but she's so strikingly talented she'dve been great. I'm a huge horror fan, so no disrespect to the genre, it just almost feels a bit below her to do if you think about it.
@RK-ep8qy5 жыл бұрын

People said Sharp Objects was (or compared it to) True Detective season 1, and while 3 had a pretty solid start it begin to derail quickly, and didn't leave a lasting impression. Sharp Objects has been on my mind since I heard of it, picked up the book, and then watched the show. It's infectious, haunting, sad and somehow (unfortunately) resonating. it's stylish, and raw and horrific but also beautifully crafted and told. I really hope HBO continues to put out content like this. Maybe more shows should be mini-series, and not have the dreaded drag of too many seasons/plots/episodes.

There is a lot of research done on scapegoating mechanisms but there is little one can do to prevent it from happening. I do believe making victims aware that there is nothing wrong with them as helpful. Unfortunately scapegoating is often a way for families or communities to hide problems that they feel cannot face. In adulthood, scapegoating became a way for adult children to hide the fact of family history of abuse by blaming everything on one member who seemed vulnerable for attack (and/or talks about it). Often the scapegoat is targeted by the siblings who were treated more favorably. In that way, the less favored sibling(s) becomes the punchingbag for everything that is wrong in the family. Family therapy can help but only rarely are the culprits and less affected family members willing to take part. So my focus would be on empowering the scapegoat(s).

What you said about how what the characters go through we go through, I have a note about the Music: I always feel taken out of hard hitting scenes with dramatic music. Music only exist in your head. Once it’s out loud, it’s real. And Camille wants to pretend that did a while it’s not real. That’s what I love about it. During music scenes we are so in Camilles head, or the characters heads even, but once that moment is done, we are pushed back into reality. Same way as when we are listening to music and someone starts talking to us. We want to pretend for just a bit longer.
