I first read Dune on an old cot in a hot, dusty tent in north-central Iraq in 2003. You know, when an occupying force was learning what it's like to underestimate an insurgency and the power of fanaticism.

Now that's probably the most hard-core Dune introduction story I've heard to date.

I have always been intrigued by the relationship between the spacing guild and the sisterhood and how they work together.Since the story is set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul, do we get to see the guild and how they come into play?

I thought The new character was more like a Kwisatz Haderach. Remembered the halo of him, thumpers and the worm?

36:30 "enslaved by the machines", "fought the machines and won" ...the Butlerian Jihad wasn't a conflict between humans and machines... First chapter of Dune: "Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted OTHER MEN WITH MACHINES to enslave them."

The Brian Hebert books have been around for 25 years now. It's not a recent development. Given Frank Herbert had very little interest in exploring a prequel, it was obvious they would use this source material.

@@TCO_404 Which is both inevitable and unfortunate. Dune is about "people fighting robots" about as much as it is about the swordfights -- which is to say, not at all. It's about the ideas and passions that drive humanity. But of course, you can't print [checks notes ] *nineteen prequels and spinoffs* about such vague ideas.

Basically what HBO/MAX has done here is what Amazon did with the LOTR. Take from the Apendices (sp) at the "end" of DUNE, maybe the "banned" Dune encyclopedia, Brian Herbert's The Sisterhood. Stick in a blender and came up with this.. I'll just leave it at that.

Not sure I am feeling a deeper understanding of The Voice from this 🤔There's a bit of it with the "mom voice", but I really hope the show portrays it as something more nuanced than just a magical skill that characters unlocked

True, there are also 25 years worth of books by this son.

Brian Herberts' contributions were not very good books from my experience. Concepts and writing are a pale immitation.

I truly mean no offense but... I am struggling to understand the host choices for this pod. I fear I have a far deeper understanding and appreciation for the Dune world than the people speaking here. The guy literally said he was forced to read the books, and only read them because of someone else pressuring them into it. They are all relatively new to the series, yet hosting a podcast on it? Im confused.

EXACTLY!!! MAX/HBO needs to find a pair of new podcasters. His explanation of "Dune" OMG!!

I can see from the comments here that this podcast isn’t for me, as they apparently don’t check what they say against canon before recording. The fact that he pronounced “Leto” as “Let-o” (like Jared Leto”) and not like it is in ALL adaptations INCLUDING Villeneuve’s (Lay-to), and that she didn’t correct him, only cinched that for me. If you had any professional integrity at all, you’d re-record the pieces where you got things wrong, edit them into the right places in post & re-upload this. But somehow I doubt you will. Do. Better.

OMG!! MAX! You guys need to get a set of new podcasters for this series. They sound like they are on "spice". A food critic?? Just because his mom introduced him to DUNE?? MAX/HBO you need to better vet your podcasters.. And they just "rolled" over the BULTERIAN JIHAD" Like it was nothing?? OMG!! Also. WHERE ARE THE MENTATS??? Guess you show runners didn't read the books either. The MENTAT School was founded BEFORE the Bene Jesserits. Guess your gonna leave them out of the show. Oh well..
