The Russells are thinly fictionalized after the Vanderbilts. So...the Vanderbilts are still around. They still live at the Biltmore Estate, the biggest private mansion in the U.S. even 100 years after its construction. The Astors died off as a family about 15 years ago, when the final Astor kicked the bucket without an heir and with "only" $20 million to her name, all given away to charity. So the Vanderbilts/Russells did win in the great scheme of things. LOL.

While the American branch of the Astors died out, the British line of the family (the family split into a British and American branch around 1900) still lives on. William Waldorf Astor III is currently a member of the House of Lords as the Fourth Viscount Astor

I've never seen this show and I'm interested, but this dialogue is ridiculous. We're to believe women of this age spoke to each other like this?? A woman would threaten to "destroy" another woman??? Rubbish! Clearly written by a man who doesn't know anything about women.

Awe, but it's based on real accounts. Mrs. Aster on the right was the Queen Bee of NY old money and Bertha on the left is supposed to be Mrs. Vanderbilt which was new money. The ball they are at is base off of a real even in 1883 at the Vanderbilt home. HBO Max, it's an incredible story of wealth beyond measure. If you watched Downton Abby, you will love this, I do.
