Women (and children) are most venerable to homicide by spouse, 1. During Pregnancy, 2. Post-Pregnancy, 3. Financial Troubles. Stop believing the fairy tale of happily ever after. People lie, feelings change and very few spouses nowadays want to carry the entire household financial responsibilities and then come home to playing second fiddle to the kids.

I think he didn't want to have a child at that moment. He was focused on owning a restaurant. She was more financially independent than he was, and I think she wouldn't marry him if he didn't want children.
